Google App Inventor Brings Easy App Creation to Android

The Google Android App Market is about to get a whole lot more interesting thanks to the Google App Inventor tool released by Google which allows anyone to create an app without programming experience.

The Google App Inventor tool is available free of charge from Google and provides a drag and drop style interface that makes it much easier to get started making Android Apps. Google will be handing out App Inventor access in the coming weeks, but you can sign up for the App Inventor now.

From the App Inventor for Android About page:

“To use App Inventor, you do not need to be a developer. App Inventor requires NO programming knowledge. This is because instead of writing code, you visually design the way the app looks and use blocks to specify the app’s behavior.”

App creators using the App Inventor don’t have to settle when using the new tool as it provides access to the phone’s various sensors including GPS, the phone functions for sending a text or reading them out loud and communicating with the web.

The tool which has been in use at several schools across the country has already yielded the following apps built with the Google App Inventor.

  • DroidMuni – Schedules for the San Francisco transit system
  • ParkIt – Locate your parked car
  • Drum Kit – Play any drum on a full drum kit
  • Super Hero Game – Test your super hero knowledge with this quiz
  • Where’s Speedo – Find friends and family on a map.
