Are You Buying the iPhone 4? Opinions from the Notebooks.com Team

Apple has once again raised the bar in a number of ways with the iPhone 4. Between the camera improvements, retina display, Facetime video calling, video editing, faster A4 processor, and more there is quite a bit to take in. Apple is certain to sell millions of iPhone 4s, but not everyone will buy one for the same reason (if they do decide to buy one at all). Because each person has a different needs and usage patterns for their phone, each will have a different reason for whether they will/will not buy the iPhone. Here we’ve collected opinions from the Notebooks.com team:

iphone cam What iPhone 4 feature are you most impressed with or most looking forward to?

I’m definitely looking forward to HD video recording with the iPhone 4’s camera. I’ve been playing with the idea of buying myself a handheld video camera that will do HD recording recently; because the iPhone 4 has this feature built right into the phone, it means I’ll have HD video recording capabilities on me whenever I have my phone with me (which is almost always).

What iPhone 4 feature, or lack of feature, has you most disappointed?

The iPhone 4 comes in a max capacity of 32GB, just like the previous model. I currently have a 32GB iPhone 3GS and the amount of space works just fine. Unfortunately, I can see myself bumping into restraints when I start quickly filling the 32GB of storage with HD video.

Will you buy the iPhone 4?

I will likely end up buying the iPhone 4G. HD video recording right in my pocket (not to mention in a device that I always have with me) is going to be great. The price feels right too. If I can pick up the 32GB iPhone 4 for $299, I think that is a very reasonable price considering the amount that I utilize my iPhone 3GS, however, I may have to wait until I’m eligible for an upgrade in order to take advantage of that pricing.

iphone 4 battery What iPhone 4 feature are you most impressed with or most looking forward to?

I really like that Apple’s paying attention to improving the camera and photo app, but the thing that matters most to me is the new iPhone’s battery life. Keeping my iPhone 3GS charged on the go is a real challenge and requires at least one spare battery pack. I’m hoping the iPhone 4 will last an entire day with moderate to heavy use. If Apple’s battery life quotes are accurate I’m going to be a very happy camper.

What iPhone 4 feature, or lack of feature, has you most disappointed?

I’m most disappointed by the fact that so many of the iPhone’s features are going to be hamstrung by AT&T’s notorious 3G network. Many new apps and features are Wi-Fi only and I think basic functions, like placing a call, will still be a challenge in some metro areas. To its credit, AT&T does seem to be improving its network in many places, including my neighborhood, but I fear it’s going to be overrun with all of the new iPhone’s video features.

Will you buy the iPhone 4?

I will most definitely be buying the iPhone 4. In fact, I’m ordering a pair of them to replace my iPhone 3GS and my wife’s iPhone 3G. This is definitely a ‘want’ purchase rather than a ‘need’ purchase, but the reason I’m buying now is because of the improved camera and battery life. I’ve already sold my iPhone 3GS for about $275, so it’s really a no-brainer.

ios 4 What iPhone 4 feature are you most impressed with or most looking forward to?

I am most excited about multitasking in the new iOS 4. On the hardware side I can’t wait to see the new screen. It looks beautiful and hopefully will make viewing video, text and pictures much nicer.

What iPhone 4 feature, or lack of feature, has you most disappointed?

I was really disappointed about Apple’s AT&T loyalty. If reports are true they are tied to them for a couple more years. But in my area AT&T is not good. Verizon is much better.

Will you buy the iPhone 4?

I will definitely upgrade my phones with the new iOS. I will also like be getting the new handset as well, but might wait to get it in my hands first. Thanks to Xavier’s article on upgrading for nearly free, it looks like it won’t cost too much.

imovie What iPhone 4 feature are you most impressed with or most looking forward to?

HD Video recording along with iMovie most impresses me. I think that it would be awesome to be able to make projects and post them directly to the web from anywhere.

What iPhone 4 feature, or lack of feature, has you most disappointed?

The lack of a CDMA iPhone 4 really disappointed me. Being on Verizon and planning on getting a smartphone as my next phone, I was really hoping to be able to get an iPhone 4.

Will you buy the iPhone 4?

I most likely will not buy the iPhone 4 simply because I am on Verizon and do not plan on switching to AT&T anytime soon.

iphone screen What iPhone 4 feature are you most impressed with or most looking forward to?

The camera improvement is long overdue, but the doubled screen resolution is most impressive. Finally, a display capable of print quality resolution.

What iPhone 4 feature, or lack of feature, has you most disappointed?

The overall incrementalness of the upgrade. Only one novel feature (gyroscope). It’s a worthwhile upgrade but not dazzling. Something like inductive charging could have made it more exciting.

Will you buy the iPhone 4?

Definitely will. I’m due for an upgrade this year regardless, and what they’ve shown is worth getting. Also should help me continue to fight the urge to get an iPad (at least until the next version is released)
