It looks pretty cool and very useful. I'd probably consider buying one but ultimately pass because there are other things I need to spend my money on first.

I think this drive is perfect for my neeeds. I've considered buying an external drive for a while now. I just haven't gotten around to it.

i'd take it, a hard drive is a hard drive

This drive would look great with my mbp.

I would consider buying one. I want to get a tv tuner for college this fall, so this would help in giving me space to record tv shows.
  • Gary
I'd consider buying one. I like the stand for the portable drive. I'll research more and compare it to the WD portable drive.
  • Dominic
You can never have too much space. I am definitely thinking of getting one, if I don't win.
  • echostryk
Wow, that media player dock looks pretty cool. It definitely would be a good way to show videos on a TV. Might be a good present for my parents and a portable harddrive is always useful.
  • Clayton
Hey, it's pretty shiny. But I wouldn't buy it because I don't have the extra money. XD
  • M@rc
That's really a nice device. The only problem is that it most likely fits only with seagate HDD. What if a friend of mine have the equivalent (portable HDD) but from Western Digital? The sharing feature is pretty limited in this case. Nevertheless, that's still an interesting concept that need to be generalized to other brand. A consortium could be created to permit the utilization of only one type of connection format/position paired with one type of drive physical format.

I wouldn't buy it, but I think it paves the way to a new kind of multimedia experience.

I would definitely consider buying one, that would sure make viewing media files easier on a TV.

This comment will more than likely reduce the chances of me snagging an extra 500GB on the cheap (as in free), but the FreeAgent Theater seems like a solution in search of a problem...a quasi Apple TV.

I like it, but I would rather purchase a new TiVo with an improved interface before I buy an entire new product. Between Hulu, Netflix, Amazon VOD, I think I have it covered. I can even stream my movies from my computer to my TV. About the only thing I really like is the core product, the FreeAgent Go. Maybe some added way to plug and play via my TiVo without having to buy a larger one or have the larger external drives currently sold, but I digress.

    Nice, but not for me.
  • This is an excellent idea, at the right price. It would eliminate my constantly searching through piles of DVDs of the kids, music, and movies. 500GB is certainly big enough to hold most of my ever growing collection in a small package.
  • Ken
I don't have too many picts and songs, but it'd be nice to have an external backup.
  • G.Smith
I would consider buying one. It would be a great addition to my HTPC.
  • Angelo
It would be great to have one just to use as my daily back up. Most important thing is to back up all the time.
  • michael andrew
a back up drive would be nice.
  • Chace
I think the docking station is awsome. I would totally buy this product if i could afford it.
  • bluedragon
I like the fact that it's so small and the docking station is a neat feature.
  • Howard
I don't have any automated backup method. And this, though not completely automated, is definitely better than just burning discs
  • Reeve
I dont store any music or movies/vids on my laptop because I dont have any space for all the required applications. oracle, windows server etc take up most of the space :|

All of my multimedia is on an external hard drive, but Its not portable. It's the one with an external power source :( So that sucks!

Note: I know I'm probably not eligible, but I would seriously appreciate this device!!! :)
  • Andrew
This looks very nice. It would also be great for my mother because it would make it easy for her to view photos and videos of my little nephew and niece. The main reason I wouldn't buy it is because I can't really afford it now.
  • Gregory
looks super nice and handy--though i agree with what the last guy said...how much is it gonna run for? i am content right now without it, though i could use the extra hard drive space.
  • Actually this would be a great solution for me as I need to be able to play HD content to my TV, but my wireless network connection and computer aren't fast enough to be able to stream HD through my Xbox 360 so it looks like I'll need a set top box to make that happen through a HDD. I'd like to see a lower price on it though and more format support, particularly .mkv.
  • I would purchase the FreeAgent Theater HD Media Player, that is if I wasn't unemployed. Lay off has put a damper on any spending. I checked the price and the starting price for the FreeAgent Theater HD Media Player was under $150 so the price is right :)
  • teh_trout
It looks great. I would consider buying one if I didn't already have my media center needs met with my xbox w/ xbmc. At some point I may want a device that would support HD and this one fits the bill.
  • Rodney
I'd love to hve one of these. They look so small and portable, but yet have a very large capacity.

I don't have a media center pc or an xbox, but I would love to be able to 'show off' more of my digital content in the living room.
  • My litmus is always my wife ... so when she saw how useful it could be bringing media to our big TV without a messy PC hookup she said 'definitely like this'!
  • Marc
I always consider buying portable hard drive. Just has to be the right price and size. 500 GB and for free works for me.
  • Iris G
I think this is a great idea. It would be nice to have all of your movies at your finger tips with no worries about looking for DVDs. Money is tight at the moment, but I would definitely consider buying one. The price is not too bad.
  • I was just thinking about getting a backup drive. Need to image my laptop. I do a lot of Web and video work from the laptop. A lot of the pictures up on Geekazine are made right from the laptop. I also have stock photos that I move from desktop to laptop. Finally, every live show I do with my band gets recorded from the laptop. Bottom line - I have a lot of data on the laptop drive.
  • Suppose I should read the rules a little better.... heh.

As for the Theatre - I think it's a great idea. I can easily use something like that when I go over to a friends' house, a hotel room or wherever. Laptop is a nice item to share, but if I can port it over to the TV, we all don't need to be huddled around a 15" screen.
  • Jean D.
I need SOME kind of back-up plan, because at the moment, I have none. So YES, I'd consider purchasing the nifty Seagate Freeagent Go.
  • Grant
I'd consider buying it, buy I think it would be much better if it fit around the drive and was much more portable.
  • Last semester we were required to purchase a portable hard drive. Now that the one I selected is filling up, I'm going to need a larger drive to continue, so yes, I would consider this product.
  • Scott
Hi Sean -- Just curious, which school required the purchase of a portable drive? Thanks.
  • Charles
WOW, that FreeAgent theatre is really cool - I'd certainly would consider buying one over a traditional DVD/HD recorder.
  • Brian S
Seems nice, I will probly not buy anything under 1TB.
  • Chris C.
While the docking station seems like a nice idea, I don't think I'd buy one in favor of the more traditional video presentation options of DVDs
  • Graham
No, 'fraid I wouldn't buy one. It looks nice, but I prefer to view things from DVD where I can get upscaling and if I want to play something from a hard drive I'll just hook my TV up as an external monitor and not have to bother having another gadget lying around mostly unused. Oh, wait, not wanting another gadget might be against the spirit of this competition ;)
  • Although I think the Theater is a good idea for some, I don't see it as something I would buy, at least for a while.
  • It's OK, but I really don't have a need for something like the FreeAgent Theater HD Media Player
