UPDATE: The contest is closed as of noon on 12/12/08. Other contests are still running. Please click here for a full listing of other sites where you can still enter to win.

There are a variety of ways you may enter the contest, all of which are free and open to anyone in the world as long as participating in a giveaway like this is legal in your locale.

We thought a lot about how we would pick a winner and decided we wanted to leave it up to chance, but allow our readers to improve their chances by completing a variety of tasks. This means you may enter an unlimited number of times if you reallllllllyyyyyy want to win four computers and the rest of the gear for yourself, your family or your organization.

The more tasks you complete, the more entry points you earn. Think of it like raffle tickets, but instead of buying tickets you jut need to participate in the below tasks.

In the spirit of the holiday season you can earn a significant number of  points by sharing some or all of the prizes with the school(s)/non-profit(s) of your choice. You don’t HAVE to designate any of the prize package to go to school(s)/non-profits, but you certainly increase your chances of winning by doing so.

You can spend as little as 10 seconds entering this contest by subscribing to our email newsletter, or countless hours. It’s all up to you.

Thank you to HP, Microsoft and Buzz Corps for putting this promotion together and the 49 other great blogs that are participating.

I have an old HP digital camera that is a favorite. While this sub-1Mpixel camera is huge in comparison to newer cameras, my kids loved to play with them and take the occasional great picture. Even with rough handling (including ripping pieces off of the camera), it worked like a charm. Shows what HP can do.

My favorite by far is the Mini. I like to work, live and travel light so in addition to it's physically small size, I'd use it in conjunction with cloud apps to increase document availability (and maybe minimize accidental loss if the cloud apps utilize redundancy and geographic separation of servers.)
  • ver_ivanz007
I really love microsoft products from the start. From the old and ancient DOS system, to win 95, win 98 , win xp and windows vista. It ia a great product. This is best when paired with a powerful computer such as HP thats very reliable and built to last....

:) Thank you for the wonderful giveaway! :)
  • I have to say the HP Mini 1000 is my favourite HP product. If only the screen was touchscreen, that would make it god-like :)
  • Tyler
HP Notebooks in general I feel are ahead of the curve I think, but the HDX is really amazing. I have played around with a 17 series before, and I was impressed with all the bells and whistles on it that really set it apart from other multimedia-centric laptops. I've also heard its not too shabby in the gaming graphics department.
  • Yolanda Villa
My absolute favorite Microsoft product are the Tablet PC bits, now part of Vista of course but previously comprising the Tablet PC Edition of XP. It totally changed my computing life; I always hated using a mouse, and drawing or handwriting is a much more comfortable and natural way to interact with my computer than using a keyboard for so many tasks, so Tablet PCs seemed to have been made for me. I've had one since Tablet PC Edition's first release, and I would never, ever again have a laptop that was not also equipped with an active digitizer.
  • Cristian Ballesteros
My favorite Microsoft product would have to be Xbox 360. It is a good piece of technology and I love the graphics it has.
  • I have subscribed to news letter. I would love to win this package. I am disabled and have no way to make extra money. I have a daughter getting ready for college and a son looking to start very soon. This would be such a help for the both of them. My youngest daughter has a friend at school who lost everything in a home fire a few days ago. I would love to share this package with that family. I know from experience how devistating a fire can be, how sad for them especially this time of year.
  • Sushrukh
My favourite Microsoft product has to be Windows Vista.I'm using it since it has been released to the public. It's much more secure than its earlier versions & rock sold. Also it looks & feels great. So, my favourite Microsoft product is, Vista Ultimate X64.

  • Alex A.
I love the HP laptops. I am in college which means I am always low one money, but I received a HP laptop as a graduation present and it still runs great. I know a lot of my friends who also got new laptops, but theirs are starting to crash. Where as mine is not.
  • Brett Moses
Ok, so as a poor college student I don't have much when it comes to computers and gadgets, but I saved up and bought an HP Mini 1000 a week ago. It is now the one thing that I always put in my backpack everyday, rain or shine, it goes with me. HP really puts effort into basic elements such as the build material, design, etc. and it allows them to produce a really thought-out product.
I can't say it is a perfect machine, but hands down, as a first laptop, it is a dream.
  • heaventrees
My favorite Microsoft product, among many, is Windows XP. It rarely, rarely, gives me any problem and is fast.

I will be sharing if I win, but just not sure with who yet. It's just not one of those things I personally know off the top of my head.
  • Stacey V
    I've always loved HP printers.
  • Alvaro Bonilla
My favorite is the HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC, that is a wonderful notebook
  • Julianne B
I have had such good luck with my HP 7410 AIO printer. I have never had a printer hold up so well. However, the duplexer finally went out and I know I am due for a new printer soon, as I have had this one for over 4 years now.
  • I love the TouchSmart computers! I hadn't heard about them until this contest and I've been to Best Buy twice to play with them now. If I don't win, I'm definitely going to have to buy one!
  • lukasz
I love the Xbox 360 but i got a Ps3 instead because it does more things that i need. The 360 has WAY better games and the controller is a lot more comfortable in your hand!
  • Hi,

My favourite Microsoft service is Windows Live Skydrive, because it allows me to safely backup my photos in the new 25GB space!

    Thanks.
  • James H.
My favourite Microsoft product is Microsoft Word 2007. I couldn't live without it.
  • Michael
My favorite Microsoft product is Microsoft XP, I've been using it for years and it hasn't let me down yet!
  • Brittney
Favorite microsoft product is vista... I think it is really inovative and fun to use.
  • Kendra
I like my little HP Photosmart camera. It serves me well and doesn't confuse me!
  • RJ
My favorite Microsoft product is the entire Office suite. It has been an incredibly useful tool for me going on two decades now.
  • SLoPPYALieN
I like Windows Vista, as well, but many people do not like it. After playing around with it, I don't mind it at all. I especially like the fact that Microsoft did The Mojave Experiment (http://www.mojaveexperiment.com).
  • My favorite Microsoft product is Windows Vista. A lot of people hate it but I love it and the ease of use once you get used to it.
  • Ulises
My favorite Microsoft product is the
    Encarta encyclopedia because is very
    well designed.
  • The HP TouchSmart PC is my favorite HP product to date! It's clean looking, and a modern feat in technology. Very smart!!!
  • Paul
Must say I'm a fan of the Tablet PC and the work Microsoft have put into them over the last 5 years or so they've really changed the way I use a computer now when not at my desk.
  • Karen
My favorite HP Product right now is the Touch PC, I just really crave new technology like that and I always want to get in on it first!
  • tawnda
I use a lot of Microsoft software but I guess I'd have to say that my favorites are the Age of Empires games... They are great. Looking forward to the next installment!
  • Mark Lehman
My favorite Microsoft product would have to be Outlook. Even though I'm a big fan of Gmail, Outlook is a major boon when trying to get stuff done at work. The tasks and calendar functions saved my butt on more than one occasion.
  • My favorite HP product is their line of calculators :-) I have an HP 28C (old school!) and an HP 49G+.
  • Hi there! On of my favorite products from Microsoft is the One Note software from the Office Suite. I use it to take notes at the courses I attend at the University and it's absolutely brilliant: very easy to use and very nicely crafted so that all the things you need are at the right place.
  • Donald H.
My favorite is the mini HP laptop. It would be handy.
  • Jerry
My fav is HP Photosmart printer as I can print lots of quality photos.
  • Jake
Windows xp! Microsoft had devine inspiration with this operating system. I have been using it since it came out all those years ago and it has been in my day to day life ever since, no other product made by a technology company has done that for me!
  • Chi
My fav Microsoft service is Xbox Live! :D I did have an HP Pavillion desktop for a while, and while it was my main machine, it was my favorite :D
  • Davis
My favorite microsoft product has to be the Microsoft office application because i type all my school work on it. My favorite HP product is the HP touch screen computer it is so fun to play with i used one at Staples and was like "Man i need one of these"
  • Erin
As Funny as this might sound, I think my favorite Microsoft thing is Microsoft Word!! haha I use it like all the time, and all throughout school it was the only program I used!!! :-)
  • amber
I am following you on Twitter (my twitter name: scarletsletter)

    Thanks!!
  • Though I use them all the time, I can't say I have a favorite Microsoft product - most of their products have alternatives that are better or could be in a more equitable software market.

So going with HP, I have been a fan of their media center PCs for some time. With computers playing a deeper role in our lives every day, it is only natural for the third screen to start replacing the small screen. Ideally, someday I will have a large LCD HDTV on my wall and an HP media center nearby.
  • My favorite hp product is the 8400xw workstation...zzzzzooom, it's fast and powerful!
  • Penny Pavlicka
HP Pavilion dv4 notebook is my favorite product.
  • My favorite Microsoft product is easily the OS line. I'm sorry, but I'm drink the Microsoft Kool-Aid and I love it. I think Vista got bad press and is far better than people initially believed it. Take that!

Also, for the contest, I did designate two PCs and in section B, I did 1,2,3,4,5 and 9 for an extra 8 points. Thanks guys. Good luck to all.
  • Luisa Mendes
My favorite Microsoft product is Windows - in all it's versions, because it's the best thing ever invented by men.
  • Love my HP C8180!
  • I'm loving my HP DV2315nr laptop. It's not a new model but it's served my faithfully for the past two years so it's my fave. :)
  • Murray Francis
My favourite Microsoft product is Visual Studio as that is what earns me my salary each month working as a software developer.
  • It is hard to pick my favorite because all three of my computers are HP...but my current favorite is the laptop I am composing this comment with.
  • tftglas
My favourite MS product is Vista as it enhances my productivity, creativity and makes a lot of fun.
  • Although many people will disagree with my favorite Microsoft software/service, it is the enhanced security features in Windows Vista. This includes the Protected Mode in IE7 in conjunction with User Account Control (UAC). The reason is that it significantly reduces the ability of an attack to write, alter or destroy data on the user's machine or to install malicious code.
  • I really like the HP mini - it would be perfect for my writing. Sometimes I just need to get away and write, but my laptop is not exactly light and portable. Something small like that would be great for travel, too.
  • Marc-André
My favorite HP product is the elite tablet/laptop 2730p, which is the one I could buy soon hopefully and get 3 years of great inking capability.
  • Matthew
My favorite HP product has got to be the Mini 1000 series. I travel for work a lot and this would be perfect to take through airport security.
  • oregac
My favorite is the MP Mini 1000 because, well its awesome. Its portable and powerful, the real deal when it comes to netbooks.
  • Anthony
My favorite HP product would have to be the HP Mini 1000. In a crowded field of cookie-cutter netbooks, the HP Mini manages to set itself apart with a splendid keyboard; a tight, compact design that is thinner than any other 10" screen netbook (thanks in part to a displayport video out); a fantastic glossy screen; and a compact lithium polymer battery.

Although I'd have to get the XP version, the MIE/Linux OS is nothing to sneeze at either!
  • Robert Kraser
My favorite product is the HP Touchsmart PC because I think it is very neat.
  • Juan C.V.
Finally i'll get a decent computer in my house. An HDX18, i love notebooks and 16:9 ratio screens. I've been drolling for this one ever since I first laid eyes on it. The best of the best.
  • Kristi
My favorite is the HP Mini 1000 notebook because it's lightweight and is easy carry wherever you go. Thank you!
  • I subscribed, followed you on Twitter (learningmama) and pasted the sentence for the status. I also became a fan on Facebook (Marcia R.)
  • My favorite HP product was my desktop PC at work until they replaced it with a Dell. I do love the HP Mini though. I love portability.
  • Nikolas
Hmm, I'd have to say, that my favorite HP product would be the HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC. Just the thought of it being a touch screen, it's simply amazing. Its tiny and compact, I LOVE IT! :)
It sure is one beautiful piece of Technology!
  • Dor
My favorite HP product is the Mini 1000 notebook. It's small weight makes it perfect for students, and that's what I am :P
  • Peter Franco
my favorite hp product is the touchsmart, i think that is wonderful as to what hp has created, it would change they way we use computer and it's pretty fascinating how one can touch and play with the screen.
  • Roberto Sonnino
My favorite product from Microsoft is the Xbox 360. With the new features and games this year, I don't think there's much more to say!
  • Frode
My favorite Microsoft product is the Office package. I know there are similar free software suites like OpenOffice and all, but Microsoft Office is the suite which have and still do help me with schoolwork everyday making it just a little bit easier for each upgrade(like the 2007 makeover) :)

HP has always been my favourite (i happen to share a HP Pavilion 102in desktop with my bro) when it comes to their product support i.e. post sales, yeah! no second in agreeing that most of HP's products be it printers, notebooks or desktops are always reliable.

As far as MS goes their windows OS flagship product XP has beeen serving me since 5 years. off late their Skydrive has been my favourite service.
  • Kostas
The first laptop I ever owned was from HP. After nearly 4 years it still sits in my desk. I was amazed by the excellent built materials, the attention that was given to the details, the wonderful design. Ever since, when someone asks my recommendation, I always give one answer: Take anything as long as it's an HP!
  • AFilipe
I'm quite fond of Windows Vista, the improved search, new Start Menu, network management, security, shadow copy, the explorer breadcrumb navigation, etc make it the best Windows I've experienced. And the Aero interface looks good.
  • I really like the TouchSmart!

I am a fan on Facebook, I'm following you on Twitter, I subscribed to the newsletter and YouTube channel, I intro'd myself on the forums, I Tweeted, I posted about who I'd share with, and about my dream notebook. I plan to share 2 computers with an NPO.

  • Steve
Favorite Microsoft software has to be Windows XP, limited eye candy and good productivity.
  • Amy
I'm not very tech savvy or up on the latest products - I went to the HP page and I love the IPAQ Travel Companions - great for long trips! You can see them here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/can.do;HHOJSID=KqbSJ7jbNpDFtYJTNTP0vLKBbzX1Gc1Q8flXkTQF3JtPcD8mmYJn!-1972643081?landing=handheld&category=Travel&catLevel=1&storeName=storefronts&lanAttr=Type I love the top one.

But I'm really liking what I'm reading about the Touch Pad included in this giveaway. Its got the convenience of portability - as well as the touch pad and its very powerful. I was around when it was normal to wait awhile for a page to load for everyone - and I'm just amazed at how the technology has advanced and the sheer capacity of these computers. I have a toddler and I'm sure it will only get better as he gets older.
  • My favorite item out of the prize package is the Touchsmart...I want it for my kitchen!
  • Christy

  • Andrew
My favorite HP product is the HDX Dragon "notebook" that was in the previous giveaway, because it's has so much stuff.
  • Stephen Boots
My favorite Microsoft product also happens to be part of my favorite HP product. Windows Home Server is absolutely awesome. It performs a full image backup of all my PCs overnight every night, allowing me to perform a bare metal restore if needed. It provides a remote access gateway into my network. It provides for great network storage. It just works. I've got an HP EX475 and recently picked up an EX470 on one of the closeout deals for an absolute steal.
  • Randall

The hp netbook looks so awsome, finally a netbook with a proper keyboard! I also love the way they did the screen. The hp mini 1000 looks sort of like a baby version of my current pavilion.

My favourite Microsoft product was Windows Vista, but ever since using Windows 7 (yes, I'm naughty) I have been extremely pleased with it. Windows 7 is shaping up to be an amazing OS and am really looking forward to the public beta and the full release. W7 is a product to be excited about in the near future! That is why it is/will be my favourite Microsoft product.
  • Xuchen Zhang

  • Kevin Vesga
My favorite HP product is their HDX16t series of notebooks. It can be customized to be very powerful yet still be affordable. The 16" screen is great for viewing videos and websites with lots of content and the full-size keyboard means your hands arent cramped. Lastly, the Geforce graphics is great for occasional gaming.
  • My favourite HP product is the TX series of laptops. They're small but powerful PCs with an awesome touch capability and the speakers are pretty good too considering the size.
  • Darren
I have NO idea if I need to post here but dont see any other way to notify this site about my entry to the contest. I have posted this tweet for 2 entries:

Is that all I need to do or am I supposed to email someone?
  • Jonathan Bressie
My favorite HP products are probably their printers. They actively support Linux and are basically _the_ brand for Linux printing. I have two HP printers in my house which are rather old now, and they are still doing just fine.

As for Microsoft, I like C# quite a bit, although I wish .NET was cross-platform. It's like a powered-up Java. I really like their mice, too, since they seem to last and are rather comfortable. I also like DirectX since it has some nice features and isn't too hard to work with, but again, I wish it were cross-platform.
  • Christian Peterman
I know no repeating, but for some reason it cutt off my name. I am the comment above.

My favorite HP product has to be the HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC. I really need a laptop like this so I can work on my blog from a remote location.
  • My favorite Microsoft software is Streets and Trips. It may be the only thing they're making right now that is not bloated or complicated beyond belief. It works well and all the map data can be installed on a notebook computer for easy on-the-road access.
  • Eric
my favorite Microsoft software is the Office suite. It has everything I need and makes everything so much easier. I would not survive without Office.
  • Alex

My favorite HP product is the MediaSmart TV. I like the integration of the Media Center Extender with the TV as well as the other multimedia capabilities included. It is a shame that HP has discontinued the product and that Microsof hasnt found more hardware vendors to integrate the extender natively.
  • Danielle Nester
My favorite HP product has to be the touchsmart and my favorite Microsoft product has to be the zune

My favorite Microsoft product would definitely have to be the XBOX 360... I mean come on...It's a computer dedicated just to games that you don't have to worry about updating hardware. That and its selection of games is way better than Playstation 3.

My favorite HP product is the new EliteBook 2730p. The review it got on GottaBeMobile's shootout convinced me that it is the best tablet out now. With the Intel SSD, the innovative dock, and slice battery, it clearly leads the pack!
  • My favorite Microsoft Service right now is definitely the Live cashback. It has enabled me to buy newer and better gifts for everyone this holiday season.
  • Calvin
I love the TouchSmart PC, because it is beyond traditional computers. I really think the TouchSmart would make an awesome media center PC!
  • mguay
My favorite of the prizes would have to be the touchsmart desktop. I think touchscreens are really neat! However, I would be giving this computer away to Light Baptist Church, so I guess my favorite will be the notebook I keep ;)
  • My favorite HP product, which I view as their most innovative one, is their TouchSmart All-in-One computer. This is the direction interaction with computers should be taking, in my opinion. Now, if only they could integrate it into a large table (i.e. desk) with a good responsive keyboard or simulation keyboard, then I would be really psyched.
  • My favorite is the HP Touchsmart PC. I love al touch technology.
My microsoft favorite product is hotmail.. I have been using it since it was originally created, always with the same acount!!!!
  • Paul
My favorite Windows product is XP, served me for many years.
  • Ellie Pongratz
My favorite is the HP Touchsmart PC. It's very cool and different! Thanks or the giveaway!

My favorite Microsoft service is Live Mesh; it has completely eliminated my need for usb flashdrives. You need an internet connection of course.
My favorite HP product would have to be my HP Tablet. It has horrible battery life and the AMD processor is really bad but once you get past those pitfalls, its actually really useful for college.

My favorite Microsoft service is Windows Live Messenger, it keeps me in contact with all my friends and family, its first program I have set to launch and log into when the Windows desktop loads, it gives me quick information and news from Windows Live Today in addition to connecting me to other live services such as my inbox, with the latest version 9, I can create specific groups with information that is federated across services such as the new Windows Live Home, status information on my Windows Live Space and share photos with family and friends. Its a very connected application, I think its the best social networking tool/service out there, yes its even better than Facebook, yes I'm biased.

Hmm, my favorite HP product would most definitely have to be my HP Deskjet 840c printer. I have had since January 2001, it continues to work great, with great print quality. The ink cartridges are still available surprisingly in both color and black. Its future proof, I have connected to my desktop through parallel, but also supports USB, very compatible, when I installed Windows 2000, all I had to do was plug it in and it worked, no problems.

My favorite HP's product is the mini 1000. I like the design very much and I have no need for any bigger laptops or more powerful.
  • My favorite HP service is HP Update on my laptop. Microsoft is Windows Update (as built into WinVista), but I really dig the new Live services, especially Live Mesh.

My favorite product is the HP Touchsmart PC. It is something new and totally different. Very Cool.
  • My favorite MS product is OneNote. One especially nice thing about it, other than helping you organize information in tabbed files, is that it includes a print driver. Anything that can be printed can be sent to OneNote, where it can be edited or converted to other file formats, such as Word or PDF.

My favorite HP product would have to be the HP Pavilion Slimline PC because everyone in my family has been using it for a lot different types of work and it's always been reliable. The size of this computer is small too and it doesn't make much noise. My favorite Microsoft software is Microsoft Office 2007 because it has a lot of different templates and an easy to use GUI that helps me get all my work done.
