Black Friday Giveaway: Lenovo IdeaPad S10 - Tell us your Black Friday Tales
I’ve had a crappy Black Friday because Microsoft’s Live.com Cash Back service is busted and I can’t get 40% off a bunch of HP gear that I wanted to buy. A lot of Notebooks.com readers have complained about this same issue and other Black Friday problems.
Tell us why your Black Friday experience was either great or sucked and you can win a Lenovo IdeaPad S10, just like the one I use.
Answer one or both of the following questions and we’ll pick a random winner next Friday. You can enter twice (once for each question you answer- PLEASE only answer one question per comment so we can count the entries easily).
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
Oh yeah…Notebooks.com is holding three other Black Friday story giveaways, with similar questions for you to answer. Easy…….Notebooks.com/giveaways

Nothing really, i just went to the stores and they have the items still available. i went around 8 am.
My Black Friday sucked becasue my lovely mother-in-law from Texas was visiting. Then I went to several stores, yes infreezing , snowy Michigan at 5:30 AM in the morning looking for bargaigns.
The one item, I really wanted at a reduced price , wasn’t compatable with my computer. When I got home, my mother-in-law was still there.
On black friday, I wasn’t trying to buy anything. I stayed home. As a consequence of this, I didn’t have to do anything to get them!
My black friday didn’t really suck. I guess the biggest reason would be people died in the insane rush for cheap stuff.
My black friday was better than last year as I started to wait in line (at a remote area’s Best Buy) on Thursday’s morning, and I was in the top 10 people of the line. Yap, it was a long wait, but I bought two LCD TVs and other small stuffs, and the discounts combined has saved me over a thousand dollar. Definitely worth the wait. Now I just need a netbook ^.^
My Black Friday seriously sucked! I was up on the computer thursday night and wouldnt you know.. it crapped out on me in the middle of everything.. I spend the whole weekend doing a complete system wipe and restore..! Its pretty bad because my machine has Windows ME and on disability I cant afford to upgrade. Well, with windows ME you cant get Microsoft updates, you cant find security thats compatible and not a memeory hog for an old system, you cant even get your DSL provider to provide you with tech support! Yes, it sucks.. If I had vista, Verizon DSL would have helped me with my system crash and restore.. as it is now, I am having to use an old mozilla browser because they dont support IE6! OK, if that doesnt suck enough, I missed every pre christmas sale I could have possible afforded.
Yes, I need this computer you are looking to give away, yes I will appreciate it and No I wont give it back! EVER! Get your hands off my idealpad! LOL
My Black Friday sucked because I worked all day at Best Buy. I wasn’t there for the morning sale, but that was easy. Only 50 customers in the store at a time. It’s when they open the doors for everyone that it gets bad. My shift was from 2-midnight and I worked in the home theater department which was the most hectic. And we don’t work off commission.
Ive been waiting all year to get an ipod touch or a laptop notebook for college but i wanted it on sale. Unfortunately, my mother and i didnt see any deals that were worth it when we went through the newspaper ads on thanksgiving…so we gave up trying. Late on Friday night my friend calls to tell me that their store had a silent sale on them and now they were all sold out…my black friday sucked.
This year I decided that getting up as early as possible with my dad would be the best option. I didn’t really think about eating before I went and that was a big mistake. We first went to Meijer to get a digital photo frame (which of course they were already out of), then to Kohl’s to find an aerobed (which they were out of too), we then went to Best Buy to get a wireless internet router and a few other things. While standing in line to checkout (which was forever long), I started feeling very sick. I had to go and sit down in the middle of the store by the CDs because I was about to pass out. One of the employees looked at me funny and I asked him if he could get me something with sugar. It was a pretty embarassing day, but I did not pass out though. It still sucked.
I didn’t buy a thing on Black Friday!
My Black Friday didn’t suck, because I stayed home.
Actually, my black friday was awesome. I got what i wanted. There were not a lot of shoppers where I went.
1- Went to Linen n’ Things store at 6am ET and they didn’t have anything on BlackFriday sale. They had ‘Going out of business’ sale which didn’t impress me much. :) Went to their website(lnt.com) got same exact stuff for $300 cheaper.
2- MY BlackFriday sucked between the hours of 10amET ’til I got HP notebook(with 40%). Took millions of refreshes(F5ves) as my wife calls them.
My Black Friday sucked. As my computer is on its last legs, I decided I absolutely needed a new laptop this year. After looking at all the deals I decided that I was going to go to Best Buy this morning at 3am and get one. Instead, I changed my mind to wait for the 40% off HP from Live.com. Now I’m sitting with nothing to show, as I click refresh for the millionth time hoping to be one of those lucky few who get through before the time expires…
From Brick and Mortar stores, I got cheap Goonies and Christmas Vacation DVDs, a Cricut machine for the wife, and toys for the kids.
I guess that the Cricut machine was supposed to be in high demand ($500+ for $200) so I camped out in Walmart just to be safe. I got what I needed, and the camping out experience wasn’t nearly as grueling as I feared.
I then purchased a HP Pavilion Dv5t with the (hopefully) 40% off Live Promotion.
2. The day has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. First it was dread when I realized that I had to camp overnight to get a scrapbooking machine for my spouse. Then, it was elation when I got all of the B&M stuff I was hoping for. Then, it was frustation as I wasted most of my precious day off hammering the f5 key to try and get in on the Live/HP promotion. Then, elation again when I finally got all the way through the process. Then, horror as the browser froze as it was pulling up my order confirmation page (according to HP, however, the order did go through) Now, it’s just mild anxiety hoping the Live Cashback shows so I don’t have to cancel the order. I’m tired.
2. This was actually the first black friday i decided to participate in and i thought it was gonna be all good and everything would work out the way i planned it….boy was i wrong. My plan was to get grab myself a TV and a laptop. After searching for all the best deals I found a 32″ samsung hdtv at frys for 400 bucks and i stumbled upon the infamous 40% microsoft live HP deal. I went to frys at 10pm and had a pretty good spot, mayb 40th in line or so…as the time slowly passes by its about 1hr and 30min till the store opens and suddenly everybody starts rushing to the doors and pretty much lost my spot in line and now i was lucky if i was the 200th person in line. When i finally get in, i rush over to the TV spot and of course…they’re sold out. What a waste…but i wasnt all disappointing since i still had a good chance at the laptop on HP. Well we all know how that turned out…. All in all, not a good day for me…plus i got work in 30 minutes
My BF sucked this year. I had to work so I basically gave up on getting in on any deals until I found out about this deal. I was looking to get in on the HP deal since I passed up the walmart laptop deal a few weeks back. Oh well, maybe something else will pop up.
Well, in looking for a deal for the S10, I was actually informed of the webcast for a popular vlog that was selling items at huge discount to benefit a foundation. So, rather than going out and braving the crowds, I decided to stay in. Well, you get the wonderful opportunity to call in to the cast to get the item - and of course, every line is busy, no way to get through, and the only thing I wanted this Black Friday - just out of reach! But I did get to visit with some friends, so that was a plus.
1. I actually didn’t go for any tech things on Black Friday. I am holding off for cyber Monday. I hope there are some good deals.
2. It kinda sucks not getting swept into the excitement. There is nothing like holding that 32″ TV that you got for cheap, turn around and look at 200 pissed off people behind you. I have been on both sides that’s why it’s so great when you get it. You might not need it but you got it and the others didn’t.
1)The one and only thing I bought was a Star Wars Transformer (Han Solo & Chewbacca/Millenium Falcon) for my son. Got it around 9am at Toys R Us for $20. Couldn’t find it at first and thought it was sold out, but when I walked by the Star Wars aisle again, I basically fell over a stack of 15-20 of those things in the middle of the floor. It was a typical “can’t see the forest because of all the trees” kind of situation. As I was standing in line, someone asked me where I got it, so at least I wasn’t the only one….
2)I realized that my Black Friday sucked as soon as I walked into the first store this morning because a) I was waaaaay too late for any of the good deals to still be available and b) as a bargain shopper at heart, I knew that this entire day would be a complete waste as far as getting anything for a REALLY good price.
Ohhhh man did my black friday stink. First of all - I’m missing real black friday because I’m in Germany right now but will be home in FL in 2 weeks. I was hoping for amazing sales and have been reading all the forums and websites leading up to today - wasn’t impressed with anything. I had family and friends that would have waited in line for me, but I just felt like the deals weren’t that great. So i’ve been lingering online waiting for cyber deals - and 8 hours ago I discovered the amazing 40 percent coupon for HP through live.com. It was too good to be true. Yea so my first two hours were trying to register for a cash back account and I’ve been refreshing pages ever since. I’m still hoping for a miracle in the next hour and 20 minutes (btw it’s 2:40am my time). Plus I’m going on no sleep because after thanksgiving last night my friend’s car broke down and we were waiting on the side of the autobahn until 2:00am for a tow truck. Back to “Oops This isn’t the page you wanted!” :-/
1. I bought a camera from costco, not realizing they don’t have black friday sales, only normal costco low prices… It’s an Olympus FE370, for I think 120 bucks. And I wondered why it wasn’t much busier than anywhere else!
2. After going to Costco and feeling stupid about them having no real “black friday” deals, I came home to continue my f5 spree. I’ve been repeatedly pressing f5 all day at live.com trying to partake in the infamous “maybe 40% off” cashback live.com/HP advertised. I continued this until maybe 30 minutes ago, when they must’ve shut down the servers, since the “Oops!” screen is now immediate. I probably missed my opportunity to grab an HP at the other stores, and I’ve been so bummed out that I’m just hoping they’ll extend it. Anyways, cheers everyone. Maybe I’ll luck out and get a Lenovo to dink around on! :) Thanks notebooks.com!
I ordered an HP hdx18t. It’s 1800 after 200 instant rebate and I’m getting $720 cashback! I can changed my mind about this laptop and still make money selling it used on ebay. I had to wait 1.5 hours refreshing the HP link on live.com search results. It sucks, but definitely worth the $720 cashback. Black Friday Sucks because the started time is way too early for most people. I’m a night owl and can’t wake up at 5:00 to get the TV deal that I wanted.
I bought the HP G50-112 from Office Depot. I had to get up 3:30 in the morning to get in line and freeze my ass out in the cold :( But i Guess it was worth it.
It sucked, mainly because I had planned on getting a Toshiba with better specs then the HP I got, and similar price, at American TV. Unfortunately, due to their poor organization of handing out the sales ticket INSIDE the fricken store, I was too late and all the stupid people ran and got it that were behind me in the line. Wasted an hour in the morning :(
Sat around for the pink friday deal and when the S10 came up the server crashed and no one could call in. so much mayhem in the Compusa camp they didn’t even know if the number was live.
But on a high note had a Costco hotdog and soda for lunch!!!
like it says above…Costco hotdog..
Booyah. no waiting. The line was unusually short since Costco has no black Friday deal. That was the best deal ever…$1.50 Hotdog and soda no BF line.
My Black Friday started at 6 am at Bed Bath & B so I’m not sure if the things I bought are even worth what I spent in order to get there on time. But if there is a new laptop in my future - it would be a great Friday!
Cheers -
Got to the mall at 11:45PM for the midnight madness sale. Parked in no time flat. The doors opened at 11:50 so I didn’t have to wait in line in the cold. The stores opened at midnight got some good deals on some stocking stuffers and presents for the kids. Went to Carter’s, Radio Shack, Children’s place. At each place twenty minutes to get in the door, ten minutes to look for gifts and thirty minutes to stand in line for the register…
Now here’s the why it sucked.
Since it was a midnight sale the heaters/AC wasn’t on so there was no air circulation. Most of the people hadn’t showered since Wednesday and the air was stale. Standing in line the body odor of all of the people was killing me. I almost passed out the stench was so bad. I’m sure that if I had fainted the people behind me would have swept me under the rack and just moved forward. It would have taken Indiana Jones to find where my body was hidden.
I ended up chasing a few deals around after the mall and probably wasted more in gas than what I saved getting up again at 5AM.
Well, to start with the amry discharged my daughter with what they said was an EPTS discharge. It turns out they sent her home with her ACL ripped from the bone and torn meniscus. She had surgery on Tuesday and came home today. I spent the day cleaning up her puke because she was in so much pain. Then I tried to buy a Lenovo Idea Pad through the PinkFriday sale for breast cancer, but the feed kept going down and I missed it. I really need to get one for her so she will have something to do during her long days of recouperation.
Finally the Live.com site works now, but only giving out 3% cash back - guessed after the 12 hours so called promotion time - complete failure and bad publicity. It wasted me good 5-6 hours on Live.com hitting the F5 key for nothing. Was trying to buy the HP DV5t to replace my 5 years old Acer laptop. Silly, I didn’t take the Costco $599 deal.
Didn’t buy anything. Wasted most of the day trying to get in on the Live.com HP 40% off deal.
bought a canon sd770is camera and camcorder (panasonic 40gb hdd) from amazon.
have wasted my day hitting F5 on live.com to get 40% cashback. finally i got through it around 9pm est but not sure if i would get the cashback :(
hope i do get it else this years bf in vain
My black Friday sucked because I spent most of the day trying off and on to get into the HP website via the Live.com 40% cash back link. Shame on Microsoft and HP, they’re lost a lot of potential customers.
Bought a snowboard online.
Thanks for this great contest. I only made it to Best Buy and was able to buy several video games for my nephews. The line was fun. I actually enjoyed the people watching. It was a great day of human theater. Next year it should be a reality show.
I bought few shirts for myself and bought some home appliances. I have wasted a lot of time waiting for HP cashbash offer to show up but I later realized that I have wasted lot of time. For the said things, I had to wait for ‘HOURS’ in queue and I still am feeling pain in my legs and calves…..
I always like these ‘black fridays’. I make a list of things I need and buy them at the time of Black Friday as we get anything cheap at that time. This time too, I really made a long list of items I need and though there were many things I wanted, laptop was definitely on the top of my list as I really wanted a new one as my old one is really a *beep*. I loved it when I heard the 40% cash back offer of HP but I really wasted many hours waiting for that to happen, ultimately not buying a laptop. I could have used that time to buy other things at the mall….I really hate these HP guys….
I had to look up “Black Friday” on wikipedia to find out what it meant. I thought it was some kind of annual stock market crash party. So, down here in New Zealand, we don’t have Black Friday. I bought nothing.
We are “lucky” though, in that Christmas stuff in in the shops from October 1st!
1. a canon camera, a washer dryer set
2. long registrar and you could not get any good laptop deal unless sleeping on the sidewalk for three night in advance
3. cheap laptop
First question: I got a couple cheap flicks off Amazon.com, and it was the most painless Black Friday experience ever.
My Black Friday kind of sucked, but that was only because I’m out of the country so I missed some of the fun of actually going around to stores and browsing the deals.
I had a white friday! Woke up to see lots of snow on the ground. By the time I’d dug my car out the shops were almost closing. When I finally got to the electronics store and asked about black friday deals, the store clerk looked at me and said “This isn’t America. We’re far more civilised.”
I did not buy anything for Black Friday because unfortunately I am not in the States currently, and because of that my Black Friday SUUUUUCKED.
Bought new chopstics (Natalis by ArtLebedev - http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/natalis/) Everything went really smoothly and I love them. The only problem is that the shipping cost 3x the price of the product itself :/
Bad experiences? Wanted to buy a nice pink chopstick case with a discount… First they told me that the design changed (eg. wasn’t the one pictured at the product page), then that the supplies are low and it’ll take some time to send it and then I had some strange credit card payment problems. I sent them a support mail and received a response entirely written in Papyrus font (OMG) which ultimately led to me leaving their site forever…
I was shopping online for a digital camera for my grandson. I went to several sites that compared prices at different stores. One listing showed an inexpensive name-brand camera for $50. When I went to the site, what was listed was the battery charger. This happened very frequently. The listing clearly showed that this was a camera, but it ended up being an accessory.
My Black Friday actually started on Thursday with some web shopping deals that were extended by some stores. Although I did not get a chance to get online to shop until after the turkey was gone I was still able to find some items still in stock although most of the items I would say were about 80% sold out by then. What a shame..
Actual Black Friday shopping found me at Best Buy looking to score some cheap dvd’s for which I did! WAHOO!!! And then I wanted to check out the 32″ lcd televisions to replace a bad on in the house. Not knowing the brands on sale I had to check them out prior to making the purchase and after leaving the store about 10am, I was not one to be there at 1am like some were in line at that time, I found doorbusters still in stock! So when I picked the wife up at noon when she was done with work we headed back to check on the televisions and luckily they still had 2 of the 20 they initially had in stock still available! We lucked out there as in just 2 hours they went through roughly 12 of them!!! But needless to say the tv is home and already installed since it replaced a broken one… Next item to get, blue ray player!!!
My husband and I officially decided that we’re getting old, when we bought a paper shredder and a desk chair from officemax on Black Friday. We redeemed ourselves a little later by buying a new game for our Wii (Rayman TV Party). Also had to get some dog food and a new collar for our dog, but that was more necessity shopping than black friday shopping.
My black Friday was pretty great. We weren’t buying any truly hard-to-get items, so we slept in, worked out to get rid of some of our turkey and pie from Thanksgiving, and then went shopping around 10am. We got most of the things we were planning on buying, and didn’t have much of a crowd to deal with. We then had another Thanksgiving meal with my husband’s family.
I was stuck in CT, instead of NYC where i would ahve a cagillion stores to shop at!
My black Friday sucked because I’m a resident physician {think Grey’s Anatomy without nearly as much sex} and I was on call in the hospital all day long… from 6am yesterday (friday morning) until 10am today (saturday). Since I knew that I was going to be working I tried very hard not to glimpse the good deals I would be missing. Instead I admitted a 10 month old baby who had multiple fractures, burns and been strangled by an abusive father… Of course I get home and hear on the news about the tampled employee at Walmart and the shooting at Toys R Us and I feel like the human race is crumbling around me. So, this has been the worst Black friday I have ever had.
Stayed away from Black Friday this year and I am glad I did. Reading about the poor Walmart worker how lost his/her life when the store opened, makes me think about how much would you do to save a few dollars on a LCD or dvd player. Based on the troubled economy, I think that there may be other deals around the corner if Black Friday was not as productive as the stores wanted. Cyber Monday, here I come!!
my BF was like all my other BF’s… I WORKED!
got a sony 42″ tv. had to go to 4 different stores since it was sold out at best buy, circuit city, and walmart. ended up finding it in an obscure store but had to wait in line for a while
wanted a new hp laptop, but everywhere i looked it was soldout, so ended up without anything except the tv.
My Black Friday sucked because we don’t have one here on Portugal. I wish we did, it would be great to buy electronics at a considerable discount just before the Holidays, especially if the HP Touchsmart TX2z had come out already.
We got a Vizio 19″ LCD HD TV at Costco for $199.
My Black Friday kinda sucked because the Friday before we bought a Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray player at Fry’s for $250 and could have gotten one for $199 had we known Sony was going to knock off $100 for BF and BS.
I spent 12 hours watching Pink Friday on line trying to order item after item and enduring their inane chatter and technical failures only to get defeated each time I tried by their systems failing.
I could not purchase a single thing despite trying multiple times. I really wanted the Flybook and the XBox oh well on to Plan B how about the Lenovo?
The fail started at around 9 am when I caught wind of the Live.com and HP 40% deal. I read the simple instructions and did as they directed. Little did I know these instructions would consume the next 9 hours of my day. I clicked the link and recieved the cute “oops” screen that Microsoft coyly created to lighten the issue.
“Oh no big deal, I’m sure the site is busy.” I thought to myself.
I retried a couple more times with no success and then the tab spamming ensued. Intermittently over the next 8 hours I would open 50 tabs at a time. Holding control, I spam clicked the banner that read “Black Friday 40% off HP…”. Then I would wait for the tab titles to pop up…
Live | live | live | HP Home | …
Heck yeah. I click the tab and I see the dimmed out HP screen.
Waiting…
White box pops up!
Almost there..
“OOOOOPS…”
DAMMIT
alright back to square 1
By the early afternoon captcha’s start popping up on the tabs asking if I’m a bot. I enter the letters and continue. At this point I’m getting 95% “oops” screens and a 5% HP screens. Around 2 pm CT I am able to enter my email and the captcha.
“Opps”
Same screen popping up more a little more frequently, around 10% of the time. Eventually I get to the screen.
“Your account is active”
Here we go. By now my the deal is looking better than ever and my budget just doubled.
10 minutes later nothing…same screen. So I load some more. 5pm rolls by and the site is still status FAIL.
I get home, eat and pop on a movie and continue to punish myself reloading the page.
7 pm - Game on
Finally im greeted with 50 tabs that open up to the store.
I’m IN!
Over the next hour or 2 I build my dreamtop that is 3 times as expensive as I had in mind, but I justified it by the amount of time invested in this ridiculous process.
Order submitted.
I call a very friendly HP rep who was taking the heat well and he said every other call is related to the cash back. Of course he has no info and I get no where on whether my purchase was covered.
I check the cash back site periodically for my rebate.
Time to crash.
This morning the cash is in there…a whopping 3% of the total.
I currently have 2 emails in with MS one at this address ashback@microsoft.com and one from their contact us form here:
https://support.search.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=cashbackso&ct=eformcs&supportLinkeformcs=E-mail
And now I sit, wondering if all this time has been wasted or if I’m going to bask in the glory of a 40% discount.
Got what I needed A 42″ flat screen Plasma
at Best Buy. (and I only stood in line for
1/2 hour
My black friday sucked because I had to go to work and didn’t get to shop at all except online.
I took advantage some of specisl day sales and I
saved myself a nice little bundle.
I was not able to buy anything for anyone on Black Friday. It really sucks being unemployed and without the ability to buy gifts for my children and family members.
I got nothing on Black Friday because it sucked, see my 2nd comment. LOL
I was very disappointed by this Black Friday as i planned to buy a new macbook. However the savings did not live up to what I’ve heard. I suppose i shouldn’t be so greedy!
2. My Black Friday sucked because I could only shop online. I was at Amazon, loading up on some fairly decent deals, one of which was a $4.95 PS3 controller. By the time I was ready for checkout, everything except one item in my cart had either become unavailable or the price jumped back up to what it was before any sales. I was pretty mad. So, now I’m holding out in hopes that Cyber Monday is a little kinder to me…
1 - nothing this year.
2 - overall, it was not bad; just waiting for better deals for something I really need (not much)
My Black Friday sucked, because I had absolutely NO money whatsoever to take advantage of any of those great deals out there, especially on electronics! I need a laptop so bad as a poor struggling student, ahh Black Friday sucked so bad! :(
I got a great new MP3 player normally $129.00 for $25.00 from Amazon without even leaving my house. Best way to shop on Black Friday is on your computer!
My BF started off great with a purchase of 2 Green Zizzle iZ Electronic Dancing Pet Toys for my 2 nephews at NeweggMall for 80% off list! Then picked up the Hauppauge HVR-1800 TV tuner card for myself which had $25 off with free shipping also at Newegg. Then went to BuyDig for a Fuji FINEPIX F100fd - 12 MP Digital Camera which is just $185 with $100 rebate! It’s the one camera I was looking for and got a great deal on it!
I knew the Live.com/HP deal would be a hassle so I decided skip that whole frustration and go with the search and save route. Total time spent on BF shopping 1 hour 15 minutes without leaving the house.
Easy! Why did my Black Friday suck? Food poisoning for all of the family after eating dinner with friends who undercooked their turkey.
Well, at least we were all off of school and work.
My Black Friday sucked as soon as I go out of the airport after leaving my boyfriend, who’s on the opposite coast.
My BF wasn’t perfect though. I was hoping to get a new Sony VAIO TT or Z but then started looking at the cheaper DELL XPS M1330 and the debate in my head started. Maybe I should just stick with my Lenovo x61t for now and get a DELL Mini9 for toting around. This always happens when I look at a new computer and always end up waiting a few months to pull the trigger. So even though my other purchases were quick, I probably spent 5 hours searching for a laptop I didn’t buy.
I got a 22 inch LCD TV for my son’s room. To get this at a great price, I waited outside the Military BX for about 5 hours. The weather was good and I was 9th in line. They had 20 of them and I got the 4th one.
The only bad part to Black Friday is despite being in the store quickly, I had to wait for the salesman to get my TV and I ended up waiting just under 3 hrs at the cashier before the ’system’ came up!
I bought gifts for my wife a cricket, and jewelry for my daughters, and a video game for my son, and I had to get up at 5:00 AM to get them. But I got good deals on all of them.
I bought nothing on Black Friday, and think people that go wild shopping on Black Friday are nincompoops. My Black Friday was great, we set up our Christmas tree.
2. My Black Friday sucked because
2. My Black Friday sucked because, like so many others on this forum, I sat around all day yesterday waiting to buy an awesome HP HDX18t laptop at 40% off, however was never able to because of the Live.com’s technical issues.
I first would check every once in a while to see if I could get through to the site. When I couldn’t I would patiently wait a while longer before checking again to see if the issue had been resolved without repeatedly refreshing, so as to not add to the problem. Later in the day I became more frustrated and joined in the frenzy and tried several times to get in, but never had any luck. 10pm EST finally came, and I never got my laptop. You suck Microsoft.
Black Friday, Schmack Friday, no way I’m going to WALMART to be trampled to death! Besides many online retailers had special Black Friday deals…who needs the hassle?
I ended up not getting anything because I showed up late to the game, and all the good stuff was gone. I was actually going to go and buy a netbook that was on sale but they were all gone, and the only other one was marked up in price :/
I could really use a netbook.
I loved Black Friday, it wasn’t all that busy in the stores. I bought some DVD’s a phone and some other electronic gadgets at Best Buy, some perfume at Macy’s, and some clothes at Beall’s. The notebooks i looked at were not on sale, the one on sale sold out very fast so i guess there were only a few of them. I could really enjoyu this gift/prize.
the other half of the question is what did i have to do to get the things i bought on Black Friday. I merely saved a little bit each month the previous year so i was able to pay cash for everything.
I stood in line at 4 at my local Sam’s club to get a Wii bundle and Wii Fit and actually got both. They were serving a decent breakfast and had hot coffee and “Black Friday Survival Kits” with coupons and chocolate so it was actually a fun experience.
I had a crappy black friday for reasons similar to Xavier’s. I’d been eyeing the HDX16t for some time, but fully configure the way I wanted it, it was a little beyond my budget. I thought the 40% Live.com cashback deal would make it possible for me to get the computer I really wanted. Making matters worse, I live in the UK, but, being a Yank, I did not want a notebook with a UK keyboard. I have no end of trouble with them, always typing email addresses with ” in the middle instead of @. Also, HP, like most vendors other than Apple and Dell, do not sell custom configured computers here, and I wasn’t happy with the preconfigured options. I started trying to log in a few minutes after 7 am Pacific, which given the time difference, was 3 pm for me. When I immediately started getting the oops messages, I knew going to be a long day. I came to X’s post on the giveaway to be sure that it wasn’t just me trying to log on from the UK and sure enough, found that others were having the same problem. When I finally saw the grayed out HP window start come up, I thought my luck had changed, but no, I just go the the inner oops box. I tried doing what others reported had worked, and I kept refreshing, and getting almost in, but then it would hang with the green dots of death showing interminably. Refeshing did no good at that point: it just put me back at square one. I kept trying till the bitter end, 3am in the UK, and then gave up and went to bed frustrated and embittered at how much time I had wasted trying to get this deal.
The worst black friday was for the guy that worked at the popular big box store that got ran over by the mobs of folks pushing thru the door.
He had a bad day!!!!
Very bad.
Mine was fine though. I did not shop at all……..
LOL
I didn’t buy anything because I had to work, just a long day for me.
no money nojob no shopping
I didn’t buy anything at Black Friday. I slept in.
Same experience with Live.com. I was so looking forward to it. Terrible day for me.
My Black Friday sucked because I had not money to spend.
Having been recently laid off, I was determined to support International Do Not Buy Anything Day. However a friend wanted to lunch and then shop. We went to Sam’s club. She bought a bunch of stuff - I limited my purchases to two of their 32 oz. sodas! Sams was a lot less crowded than usual - must be all the shoppers were getting Black Friday bargains.
I love bargain shopping, so I would say my Black Friday stunk as far as shopping. But it was great in that I got to spend some tie with a good friend.
oops - didn’t put this into a second comment, so I’ll do that now.
I love bargain shopping, so I would say my Black Friday stunk as far as shopping. But it was great in that I got to spend some time with a good friend.
The only thing I bought on Black Friday was a package of curtain hooks at Ace Hardware. I wanted to get my husband to look at the tools so I could get some hints.
Black Friday sucked for me because I have to pay rent this week, and could not comfortably squeeze out enough money to grab the laptop sales. (for my son.)
I had a new cooktop delivered and spent the entire day installing it. My black Friday shopping consisted of four trips to Home Depot for gas fittings, pipe wrench, and sanding disks. By the time it was installed and everything cleaned up I was out of time, energy and money to do any other shopping.
Didn’t get anything on Black Friday, slept in!
The items I achieved during my Black Friday hunt was a Boise wireless surround sound system I got for almost free ($200 off of $250), what I had to do? Not much, Hawaii is very laid back and technology inst well recognize here, I merely stepped in the door and picked up the door buster that caught my eye, whilst everyone was hopping on the big screen TV’s and iPods, which I thought was a crappy deal, only $30 off.
I bought a book on Black Friday.
I had a great Black Friday, but I didn’t buy that laptop that I wanted.
My Black Friday sucked because I couldn’t find what I wanted and I spent all day standing in lines.
Alright, now the other side of this infamous day, sure I picked up a pretty good deal, however, I didn’t just wake up and walked to the nearest electronic outlet.
My Black Friday sucked because I had to get up 4 hours earlier to drive my friends for these deals(loyalty and friendship eh?), unfortunately one comrade mistakenly saw a 70% off sign at a “gadget” store… it was KB toys and all I got there was a talking batman lollipop. Thus, we missed the Circuit City door buster I was aiming for AND needed dearly, a 24′ Screen with almost 60% off compared to newegg. This CRT screen is sucking BIG TIME.
Did not buy a thing on Black Friday.
You are right, it sucked!!!
Wanted one of three LCD tvs and not one of them went on sale, it was just the cheaper models.
Oh well, maybe after Christmas.
I didn’t buy a thing on black Friday so I didn’t have to knock anyone over or pull out anyone’s hair to get the “good” deals out there.
Black Friday was great as I didn’t leave my house. Got some DVD’s on sale on line. The bad thing was there were several things I really wanted to purchase, but finances wouldn’t allow it. Maybe next year.
My black Friday sucked because I had to work all day long. I had two clinics to close end of month at and holiday payroll at both also. By the time I got home it was late and I was wiped out, so I didn’t even get to see what was out there to buy online.
I wish I could have bought some of my Christmas gifts at a good price, but I don’t even know if they were on sale.
I didn’t buy anything on Black Friday!
Black Friday sucked because I didn’t buy anything!
I browsed the Apple Store at the mall, then headed over to Best Buy yesterday afternoon but I am still undecided…so I didn’t buy anything just yet.
1) I just shopped online for DVDs, and avoided the rush.
2) The DVD/DVDs that I wanted were sold out.
the ad left me confused and the idea of rushing out and standing in line and not even sure if they would have what I wanted leaves me really put off this whole black friday thing. the only thing I bought was used DVD’s on sale at my local blockbuster 5 for 20.00
I bought all too many tools, but you can never have to many tools. It went smoothly in and out of both stores in 15 minutes.
My Black Friday sucked because my brakes started going out in my truck.
I bought mostly toys and clothes for my kids on Black Friday. The only tech item I bought was a cell phone for my daughter. What did I have to do to get them? I did the usual, got up early, drove to the stores, got pushed and shoved a bit in one store, fought some gift snatcher off who was trying to take something out of MY cart, waited in a long checkout line…Like I said , the usual Black Friday experience.
I skipped Black Friday this year…….I stayed home and rested after Thanksgiving……..people were camping out in the cold to get first dibs on the doorbusters, and I decided it was not worth it to me to get caught up in the craziness…….I’ll wait, and try when it’s a little less insane……and there is also on-line shopping, which gets better and more appealing every year.
My Black Friday sucked because I hate dealing with rude people so I had to bite my tongue several times that morning. I didn’t get a Leapster handheld system that I wanted and one of the stores I had planned to go to was so packed I decided to skip it, probably missed out on a few good deals.
Black Friday was horrible. I had no money. It is heartbreaking to realise that you cant give your kids anything. That’s why I wanted to enter. At least I have a chance.
I didn’t get anything for Black Friday. I had to stay at home. I was looking forward to see what deals Walmart and RadioShack had (really the only stores near us). But I had vehicle problems. I actually was looking for a digital camera and a laptop.
Black Friday sucked because I could not afford to buy a replacement computer for my Pentium III 866.
A senior on fixed income.
John
I got a tiny digital recorder for work at Radio Shack for 29.99. I don’t think it was even on sale, I just needed it. They only good bargain I got was on long underwear.
On Black Friday, I went to RadioShack to upgrade my cell phone and later went to Bestbuy. Though once I came to Bestbuy, I found a better deal on almost the same phone, so I bought three more for the rest of my family.
I didn’t have to wait in line too long, but traffic going there was pretty bad.
The thing that made my Black Friday bad was that I didn’t know what to buy for my family. I hope I bought the right things…
I got a nice HP Pavilion Core 2 Duo at Best Buy, had to get there at 6am and stand in line for over an hour to get it. Very glad I did though. Also went next door to Office Depot and bought a 8GB SD Card for 14.99.
Black Friday was really quiet for me. I didnt go and shop. I think I made a good decision on that because I heard about some walmart employee getting trampled. What is wrong with people today?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, no one can adequately answer that question in the space allotted here lol.
I didn’t have any money to spend on black friday so I stayed home with the family.
2) My Black Friday sucked because I stayed up all night, got to Office Depot at 4:30 am and was the seventh person in line, only to find out at 6 am that there were only six of the $349 laptop available and all six people in front of me were there just for it! So I had to spend two more hours going to a different store, and was exhausted by the end.
WE had to drive to the nearest Staples (50 miles) to get in on their deals. But hey, I got to eat lunch out, afterwards. We bought a Garmin nuvi, some 4 GB SDHC, a printer and DVD and CDs. Fun stuff!
My Black Friday sucked because I had a headache and was exhausted from Turkey Day. I had a great time on Turkey day! I wish I could have gotten a new laptop.
Black Friday wasn’t to bad. Didn’t get any of the electronics I wanted, mainly just shop tools but oh well. There is plenty of time left right?
Toys
photo keychains
tools
video games
I had to stand on lines. Had one store meet another store’s advertised price to get the photo keychains i wanted.
My black Friday sucked because I didn’t get the router bit set from Sears that I wanted. Also, some good MP3 players were a bust as well….got to the store to late.
No Black Friday for me, so yes, it really sucked. I was home sick and I really needed to be out there. Finally got out today (Saturday) and the few things I really wanted were all gone. So, sadly, it was a bad day.
Lenovo 1
Black Friday sucked for me because I had to be at work at 6 am. People were in line already and came bursting in like it was the end of the world snatching stuff up all the way through.
My Black friday sucked once I saw the trauma some greedy, silly people had caused. Who has the will to shop after that? Might as well sit home with a new quality laptop and find the all good of the internet.
Fantastic Black Friday. Had to stand in line for two hours but it was worth it. I got the 22″ monitor I dreamed of getting.
didn’t- stayed in bed will shop on monday
sucked becuase I could smell the nasty turkey smell through the house- still
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
Just some games from gamestop. I didn’t even go in the morning, so I didn’t have to over exert myself
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
Most deals aren’t really that big of a deal. Plus you’d have to wait online to get the good stuff
I never give any thought to Black Friday. Each year I do my Christmas shopping the last days. Please accept my entry. Thank you.
Why did Black Friday SUCK Becuase I had to take hubby to the hospital to have a biopsy done on his liver He had cancer last year in his colon and esophygus and now they think its in his liver When we were through with that-6 hours later– the stores were all out of what I wanted to buy

1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
i didn’t buy a dang thing
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
i wanted to get a new laptop, but i had to work friday
I got exactly what I wanted on Black Friday–peace and quiet at home alone.
I didn’t buy anything that’s why my black friday sucked.
My black Friday wasn’t too great because I had to work and couldn’t make it to any of the early sales. I waited until coming home and did some shopping on the internet, buying our kids some dvds, a few computer games and a couple of toys.
Thanks for offering this contest. What a wonderful prize. Thanks.
My black friday sucked because I work for an online electronics store and had to deal with fiesty customers all day…It wasn’t fun. People are very demanding.
I purchased a WD Passport Drive and WD HD Media Player. Everything went ok other than the huge lines trying to check out.
My Black Friday sucked because right now we are broke. Unfortunately this will probably not change in the near future. We did hit up Ollie’s and bought some things that were about 70% off what they normally would have been. Other than that we slept in and stayed out of the cold. Did I get anything I wanted? No. :|
Sorry….I didn’t answer what I wanted but didn’t get. A new computer. Mine will no longer run the programs that I need it to.
My black Friday sucked because I lost at the casino. I wish I would have won one of the hourly jackpot giveaways.
I didn’t buy anything on Black Friday.
My Black Friday sucked because I couldn’t afford to get anything, and I didn’t.
I bought a GPS for my husband. I went to circuit city and actually found one!
Black Friday sucked because I didn’t have the money to buy what I really wanted to buy, which was a new computer for hubby and one for son.
My Black Friday sucked because on Thanksgiving I ordered a laptop online. Several hours later my order was cancelled so I decided I would go out and get one on Black Friday. No problem right? Wrong. I got to my first store and my debit card was declined, so I wrote a check. It failed authorization. Seems because of the $400 charge disappearing off my account combined with several other online purchases my bank flagged my account as compromized and closed it. Great didn’t get that fixed until 3:00pm too late to get any deals. I went again today to use my debit card and declined again. The bank opened my account back up but didn’t take off the restriction on my debit card. No shopping for me until at least Monday. So basically I didn’t get anything that I wanted to get, particularly a laptop for my son.
1) I didn’t get anything :(
2) Black friday sucks because it doesn;t exist here. I wish I could have got stuff. :
Actually, my Black Friday didn’t suck, and I didn’t buy a thing.
None, I stayed at home
I couldn’t get in to any of the stores.
I went hiking in Runyon Canyon (Los Angeles) and got exactly what I wanted - exercise and nature’s beauty
I didn’t buy anything, just slept late.
My black Friday sucked because I went to Staples to get a laptop that was part of the black Friday deals and they were sold out by the time I got in the store.
Wasn’t so great. Wanted to get my granddaughter a laptop but decided I just couldn’t spare the money. Ended up just buying my mother a robe for Christmas.
Got a Polaroid 42″ LCD TV for $598 at Walmart. Did not have to do anything but walk in and put it in my cart.
On Black Friday my fiance and I bought a GPS, Hannah Montana Dolls, a red toaster and a paper shredder.
My blackfriday sucked because I had sugh a hard time getting my fiance out of bed to shop!
My Black Friday sucked because I couldn’t fall asleep. I was up at 1:00 AM on Thurday to cook the Turkey and didn’t fall asleep until 30 hours later.
Black Friday sucked because I stood in line for 4 hours to get the Xbox 360 combo and none were left.
Went to two stores who advertised for great deals on tvs. Neither store had any in stock. Don’t advertise a deal and not have any!
I bought at iMac at the Apple store [they never have anything on sale] for $100 off at 6pm for my Mother. I was lucky I didnt have to wake up at 4am as their promotions were all day and not one of those limited time offers so early in the morning on BLACK Friday as so many other stores were.
I have to say that I am 29, yet this was my first black friday experience. And it wasn’t a good one. I went to Walmart for $1.50 bath towels and $4.00 jeans for my kids. I figured since I wasn’t going for the DS or the Plasma TV, I’d be ok and wouldn’t have to fight the crowds. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. People were pushing and shoving and yelling at each other. All over some $9 vaccuums that were probably junk, and for a plasma TV that you could probably buy for that same price a year from now. I did end up getting the towels which were a great deal! I didn’t get the jeans though. People had already trampled the jean stacks all the way to the ground so I didn’t even bother. I’m glad I didn’t want the DS bundles they had for a great deal. They were gone in about 4 seconds! I then stood in a line of about 30 others (times 30 registers…you do the math) for about 45 minutes. Then I got stopped at the door so they could check my bags and reciept to make sure I didn’t steal anything. Nothing…just some stupid towels. It was not a good morning.
My Black Friday sucked due to the fact that my plans for scoring a Lenovo s10 on another (somewhat technically inept)website came to naught.
I slept in for most of the morning. Then, I bought a bunch of movies from Walmart. I just couldn’t resist. I’m holding off on some larger items but I did my Best Buy research. Debating between the Wii and HD Tivo.
I did not shop Black Friday because I can’t deal with all that craziness. I did shop at Walgreens on Thanksgiving and bought a bunch of toys at half price.
My black friday was great! I didn’t buy a single thing. Stayed at home with my family and just relaxed. Most of our shopping will be / already is done via online stores. Not dealing with the crowds and the lunatics breaking doors to get a ‘good deal’ is a great way to relax after a day of thanksgiving.
1. I bought a DCR-HC52 miniDV camcorder, but had to wait 1 hour on a line to get it.
2. I actually wanted the DCR-HC62 camcorder, but had to get the cheaper version becasue the HC62 was sold out.
My Black Friday sucked went to store advertising great deals on sofa sets, and while I was one of the first 20 people there, and got an extra 25% off, the sofa sets weren’t all that great and left with nothing. But not before locking my keys in the car and having to wait for AAA for forty five minutes in the cold.
I found a pair of running shoes. I had to wait and hour in line at the store, and another hour in line at the cashier. I am not sure if it was worth my time.
My black Friday sucked because cash is very tight, and I was sooooo hating the fact that laptops were dirt cheap and I am still dirt poor. I did pick up a few cool deals for my family, though. But those lines, and people get obscenely crazy!
I was looking to just get some cheap memory for my camera…but it turns out it’s the wrong type. Now it looks like I’ll be buying a new camera tomorrow, since I have a concert to go to and record in 2 days. I hope there’s still some good deals.
I did not purchase anything on Black Friday. I believe in giving throughout the year not just during Christmas. Anyone who shopped on Black Friday is a brainwashed American sheeple who follows the path of the minions of the New World Order.
Since shopping mobs don’t appeal to me, I did all my shopping online. No crazy deals, but I bought some video games and a racing wheel for my husband that I know he’ll like. Easy and relaxing!
I bought a ZUNE because I had a GC left over from my birthday. I had to take the EL and boy was it crowded.
Black Friday sucked because all the turkey was gone by the time I got back home. No sandwiches.
Those professional shoppers were crazy. All the time on the news you hear about how poor people are but that didn’t seem to be the case on Friday. Anyway, I bought an iPod case in black matte metal.
When I walked back out to the parking lot my car wouldn’t start. So, I had to call a tow truck and that cost 110 dollars. And the mechanic still has the car. I don’t know how much that’s going to cost me.
Nothing special. I just went to the grocery store and bought the fixin’s for meat loaf.
Traffic on A1A WAS A NIGHTMARE AND THAT made things dangerous.
My husband is recovering from an emergency open heart surgery so I didn’t get to out shopping for an MP3 player for my son. I did order a pair of shoes for my husband online.
Didn’t go to the stores; just spent some time checking out deals on-line so my Black Friday was pretty good.
Down Comforter, Christmas tree, and lots more smaller items.
All I had to do was get up at 3:30 AM. I had a great time and didn’t have any problems finding what I was looking for.
I bought only abag of cat food. My day was the pits because I saw a mini- Acer computer with 160G of hard drive at a local computer store that I fell in LUST for but could not afford.
I bought two bottle of garlic hot sauce at a specialty store. All I had to do was walk in, find and pay.
My Black Friday sucked. I had a huge list, got up at 4 am and went and stood inside of Walmart for 45 minutes. They had it all roped off and when the moved the ropes, people started pushing and throwing big boxes with kitchen appliances. It was horrible. I happened to make it to the Bissell Vacuums for $28.00 and they were on my list. I grabbed one of those, checked out and went home. Those crowds were horrible!
Son and 2 grandkids spent the night. I got up early and woke son and shopping diva 7 yr old grand-daughter up to go to Best Buy and Kolh’s. It was raining and Kolh’s didn’t have what we wanted. My son, who had never been shopping early like this got discouraged, took one look at the line looping around Best Buy and decided that was it for him. We went back home and I not only didn’t get to shop but was stuck with 2 wide awake kids (yes my grandson woke up when we returned).
I didn’t buy any items because I didn’t do Black Friday. I slept in after slaving the day before.
Aaah but my Black Friday didn’t suck because I believe there are better bargains ahead as we get closer to the holiday. Besides I don’t know what I’m getting people this year anyway.
I don’t shop Black Friday. It’s not worth it to me to fight the crowds.
Went to office store and a mass merchandiser, both were so crowded that we left. Went to a hardware store and bought a slow cooker and some Poinsettia plants.Did not get the MP3 player we were looking for.
BF was BAD. Woke up and decided: It just wasn’t worth it, and rolled over.
I didn’t buy anything on Black Friday, so didn’t have to go through any hoops at all!
Can’t say that my Black Friday sucked, since I generally (and did this year) ignore it as a shopping day.
I got two great presents for my nieces from amazon.com - a bionic eye and a havoc? mini indoor foam helicopter. I also got some shoes from finishline.com for moi.
My black friday did not suck. the gym was empty so I had a nice peaceful workout. The grocery was empty and I didn’t have to wait in line. I passed a Wal-Mart (where I’d never shop anyway) and shuddered at the parking lot jammed with cars.
My black friday was bad. I have a grandma that’s recovering from knee surgery so my black friday shopping was help out the physical therapist to make sure she does her exercises. So no shopping for me.
i shopped thanksgiving eve my black friday was fine
I went out pretty early to buy my son a computer and they were sold out within 3 minutes…Thats what sucks….I hate BF!
I went shopping on Black Friday but didn’t buy anything. We hit the big outlets near here. Most stores were crazy but manageable. I didn’t go for anything in particular so wasn’t really let down.
black friday sucked because my wife and i were visiting relatives and i did not get to participate
Being broke with almost maxed-out credit cards and having to stay home and care for a sick kid, my Black Friday was truly BLACK!
I didn’t buy anything on black Friday
I haven’t shopped “Black Friday” in years. There aren’t any good deals like there used to be, and I can’t handle all the nuts that come out in a manic mad rush.
An Ekornes Stressless chair, which will help a bunch when it arrives in about 14 weeks. Had go navigate mall traffic, but well worth it.
Sucked because it looked like the Sony TV’s were hidden while they tried to get rid of inferior TV’s.
My Black Friday sucked because my car was broke down and I didn’t get to look for a super deal on a camcorder and a laptop.
I really don’t shop on Black Friday but this year really sucked because I had to get a shot…
I bought an external hard drive that I may or may not really need.
Mine sucked because i did not get to go. I was called in to work at 3:00 AM. I was at the plant until 5:00 PM and was to worn out to shop. I actually was going to buy my Granddaughter a computer. Maybe cyber monday will be better.
Didn’t get a thing. Down sick with the flu. Had the ad’s marked and laid out but couldn’t move.
Q: What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
A: I didn’t buy anything on black friday and I’m so glad I didn’t have to push my way through the crowds and deal with all that traffic. Most of the brick and mortar deals weren’t that good anyway. When I buy from Amazon, I’m usually getting the best deal possible anyway (or close to it).
Q: Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
A: It sucked because I work retail and got to experience desperate unhappy people trying to save a couple bucks for 8 hours.
Q: What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
A: I bought a pair of earrings for my daughter. Had to settle for a different stone than I wanted to get her, but they are pretty, too.
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
I always have a great Black Friday, because I refuse to go anywhere near stores. On the day after Thanksgiving I sleep late and enjoy turkey sandwiches. I’ve already chosen all the gifts I’ll be giving for Christmas, and buy them online at my leisure. It’s very relaxing, and comparatively easy on the wallet.
Q: Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
A: I wanted to get a dvd at Target that was only $5.99, but they were out when I got there. And no rainchecks. So will have to watch ebay instead.
My black Friday was great. I waited until mid-day to avoid the crowds and still found all the items I wanted. I also headed to thrift stores and the prices were awesome. I’m ready for the holidays.
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
My Black Friday never sucks. My material wants are few. I don’t risk high blood pressure and seizures from trying to shove through plate glass doors. And nobody–starting with me–ever runs the risk of being stomped to death while I’m taking a nice soothing hike in the woods.
(1) I walked into Circuit City, found a 4 GB Sony mp3 player for $49, walked over to Installations where there was one person in front of me (not getting an installation) and was out in 10 minutes while the other lines were 20-30 deep!
(2) Even the sucky part was ok. Live.com was giving me fits, but eventually I got through to get 30% off a laptop for my son + 10% eBay coupon. I missed the Garmin nuvi 765T for $350 and Amazon, but searched the web and found a 755T for $285. I didn’t want the Bluetooth, anyway. The real reason it sucked, though, was because most of the sales sucked. Not like the old days where there was the opportunity to get $100+ items for $5. Technology is advancing so rapidly that it’s hard to have a doorbuster thata isn’t someone else’s typical sale!
My black Friday was wonderful because I decided to do all my shopping online this year. Yeah CyberMonday!
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them? I was at the mall for a movie on Black Friday. Bought dinner and candy…not traditional tech toys! It was hard to park and navigating the parking lot is always a mess before Christmas. Thanks for a great contest!
What items did I buy…nothing…husband, whos
items we went to get, didn’t grasp the concept
of get up early, didn’t, so we got there late
and what he wanted was gone, just as well, the
lines were unbelieveable and the savings would
not have been worth the wait. The second part
of the question was what did you do to get them,
and the answer is, to get my nothing, I had to
shop with my husband…next time, will go early
and alone.
1)It was lousy, I wanted to buy a laptop but I over slept and missed it all ,but friday night I found a xmas trees with lights for 25 dollars
Why did my Black Friday suck ? I made the mistake
of shopping with my husband, men in general don’t
grasp the concept of shopping, of bargains, of
getting up early, and of waiting in lines. Yep,
it sucked, and now I have to decide whether to hold out till next round of sales or just go and hope for the best and yes, I will be doing it alone, by mutual agreement.
my black friday sucked for two reasons-number one i am not working so i have no money to spend, and i love christmas , and all the hustle and bustle, secondly i moved last year from my hometown to a very small town, where i know noone- so instead of spending black friday with my best friend, running around, grabbing up bargains, and getting all into the holiday spirit- i sat at home , knowing that not only did my black friday suck, but my entire holiday is going to suck-very sad….
Oh boy do I have a horrible Black Friday story for you! I will tell you how you camp outside a store for 3 days, be the 1st in line, and walk out with nothing.
My sister and I had been camped outside of Best Buy since Tuesday at 1:00 PM to each get the $299 eMachines desktop bundle and the $349 HP laptop bundle. All the employees knew we were 1st because they were so shocked that we had gotten in line so early. Also, we were featured on the news on 2 different stations for being camped out for so long. Well, here is where the story turns horrible.
They were supposed to start handing out the vouchers at 3:00 am, but the store manager didn’t start making his announcement until 4:30 am, a half an hour before they were supposed to open. We are expecting a couple of employees to come out at a time, but EVERY EMPLOYEE came out at once, I guess because they were late in handing out the tickets. Being 1st I got approached by the 1st employee out the door, and that was the ONLY employee who had approached my sister and I. She asked us what we were here for. I told her the $299 eMachines and the $349 HP. She screamed out HP and grabbed the girl who had the HP vouchers. The interesting thing was this girl was already dealing with the people who were THIRD in line. That girl stopped talking to them and came to us. They were both trying to convince us to get their Geek Squad service even though we weren’t interested. After FINALLY telling her I’m not interested and that we needed the vouchers for the eMachines, she said “Oh, I don’t know who has the eMachines, I assume they will be out shortly.” When she went back in, so did other employees, but there were still a few still talking to customers.
My sister and I were wondering when other employees were going to start coming back out. I managed to catch one of the employees as they were heading back into the store and asked them when other employees were coming out and he said that “no more were coming out, all the vouchers were handed out.” I saw red! I ran over to the manager in the pink shirt named Chris to tell him we were 1st in line and completely got skipped over. Chris began to get this worried look on his face and asked who was the 1st person that I spoke with. I described how the girl looked and he ran back in to look for her. A few minutes later they both came out and she asked me what was the problem. I told her that I had gotten skipped over in line. She whispered to him that “Tristan had the eMachine vouchers”. She said I’m going back in to see what I can do to get your desktops. I thanked her as she walked back in. As she was going back in, another woman came out and said they were going to be opening in a few minutes. My sister and I are thinking “how are we going to find this girl once the store opens?”
Well, needless to say she didn’t come back out but was the 1st person we saw as we entered the store. The employees were all clapping. That girl acted like she had no clue who we were as she directed us to Geek Squad. I asked her if she had any updates on our desktops and the smile on her face faded away. She told us to go to Geek Squad they will help us out there. I asked if they knew the situation, she said yes just go to Geek Squad. I asked her who should I talk to, and she screams “Ma’am, you are holding up the line, GO TO GEEK SQUAD!” I was in shock that she screamed at me like that, especially because of how concerned she acted outside in front of all the other customers.
When my sister and I got to Geek Squad, I asked the 1st employee who greeted us if anyone had told him anything about the desktops for the 1st people in line. He said no, no one told him anything. At this point I began to have a mild anxiety attack because we were in line since Tuesday for that system. I had to run to the bathroom to put water on my face and calm down.
On my way out the bathroom I spotted Chris, the store manager, and asked him did he manage to find two systems for my sister and I. He wouldn’t even look me in the eye as he told me “I’m sorry, there is nothing I can do, all the vouchers were passed out, if you were skipped, its kind of your problem.” I told him did he not realize how long I was out there and that it wasn’t my fault they were late handing out vouchers and that I was only approached by one employee because the other ones flew right past my sister and I. He kept looking around and said “Look, I’ll go talk to my District Manager and see what he says we can do, but no promises.” I didn’t believe him so I told my sister to go follow him and see if he goes to talk any other managers. My sister calls me on my phone after about 5 minutes and tells me he didn’t talk to any managers, just a couple of customers and employees with the blue shirts. I find where he was standing and ask him if the District Manager gave him any news. He lies and tells me “My District Manager said the employees followed protocol in handing out the vouchers, we cannot offer another system to you for that price nor can we give you the system without the vouchers for it.” He walks away from me and leaves me standing there looking like a complete idiot.
I realize that nothing can be done so my sister and I get in line to claim the computers we do have vouchers for. When it was time for us to claim out laptops and checkout, the total comes up to over $1300. I tell the employee that those are supposed to be the $349 laptops. He looks at out vouchers and tells us that we had the vouchers for the $599 HP. I said to him that we told the girl in line we wanted the $349 HP vouchers. He coldly tells us, “Well looks like they gave ya’ll the wrong vouchers, are you getting the computers or not?” I said no I’m not getting them I want the $349 laptops!” He laughed and said “Well how are you going to get them, steal them from someone who actually has the tickets for the right bundle?”
I was so pissed that I told my sister lets go. We walked out empty handed after being in line for 3 days. To make matters worse, my battery died from my car sitting for so long. Thank goodness for AAA. Anyway, we get home and call the 1-800-BEST-BUY number to complain. The jerk on the phone tells me that he can’t believe my story considering my sister and I were 1st and line and got skipped over, and also because there is no way we were given the wrong tickets unless we were so tired that we asked for the $599 thinking we were asking for the $349 tickets. I was livid! He said to make up for this, he’ll send me a $25 gift certificate. In my opinion, a gift certificate for that amount was adding salt to the wound. I hung up on him, when on the consumerist.com, and got the number to the CEO’s office.
I called and spoke to this really nice man who was also named Chris. I told him that the local news did a story on my sister and I since we were 1st in line, and that I was going to call the station and tell him what his company did to us. He apologized and said he was going to call the store and see why this happened to me, and see what the store was going to do to make it up to me. He said give him a couple of hours. Within 30 minutes he called me back and said the store has 2 $299 eMachines bundles and 2 $349 HP bundles sitting behind the customer service desk. He said to ask for the District Manager when I get there and he’ll personally walk me over to customer service to claim my systems then walk me over to get checked out so I don’t have to wait in line.
When I get to the store I ask for the District Manager and the employee asked if he could assist me with anything, I said no I need to speak with the District Manager. Before the guy could say anything, the store manager popped up, looking so sorry about what went on. He should have been sorry when I 1st approached him about my systems. He lied and said he didn’t understand what I was talking about, and if he had known, he would have helped me out anyway he could have. WHATEVER! I told him I wanted to speak with the District Manager and him only. Finally he walked over to my sister and I, shook our hands and asked me to explain to him what went on. I told him, and he said he had no idea that went on, and had he known he would have helped us out because he remembered how long we were outside the store. That of course proves Chris lied when he said he talked to his District Manager and he told him to do nothing, even though were knew he lied because my sister was watching him. Chris was running around like a chicken with his head cut off; he was so nervous. The District Manager walked us over to get our computers and offered us whatever kind of drinks and snacks we wanted. Of course Chris was there trying to make jokes with us but I didn’t feel like laughing. He tells us he gave us the preloaded computers, instead of the regular ones for no extra charge. We paid for our systems and began to walk out the front door. All the employees were looking us up and down, which I could have cared less about because it was their screw up. All I can say is thank God for the CEO’s office and this has got to be our worse Black Friday experience EVER.
I would love to win this new laptop and thanks for having this contest and allowing us to share our experiences!!!
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?: I bought some peanuts at the Mentone Market in Mentone, Alabama. We simply stopped the car outside, went in, got some peanuts and gave the lady some money. They were good.
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?: My Black Fiday did not suck. I had a wonderful time staying out of it all. I got everything I wanted.
My black friday was pretty uneventful. I decided to skip the store lines and just go for the online deals. Reading some of these other stories, I’m really glad I did!
As for what I got on Black Friday, I got a couple of discounted XBox 360 Live games, and some DS games from Amazon.
My boyfriend who actually hit the store lines managed to get some great prices on the wireless controllers for rock band 2.
In a way my Black Friday was good since I didn’t have to deal with any lines, crowds or vouchers.I stayed home. I don’t have any money for Christmas shopping and that part sucks but I can’t do anything about it. Its not the first year that I couldn’t shop but I sure hope its the last. I paid for oil this week and that was the end of my cash. At least I have heat and a house to live in!
I would love to win a laptop, I have always wanted one.
Ordered a 22″ Dell LCD from ebay with 30% live cashback
My Black Friday was awesome, mainly because I had to work and didn’t actually get near a store all day long. I bought a few Christmas presents online (video games and books mostly) from my desk, getting absolutely great deals on all of them without having to shoot anyone or get trampled.
I bought a Nintendo Lite…online. No hassle, no waiting in the cold, no pushing or shoving….just a couple clicks of a button.
I bought a table saw and Christmas tree. All I had to do to get them was drive to the store … no lines, no waiting for me!
I had to work 12 1/2 hours on black friday, so I didn’t get a chance to get out for the deals but as I watched the news stories about what happened at Walmart & Toys-R-Us I was glad I wasn’t a part of it.
I bought 2 ties and a pair of socks (lame, I know). I went out around 2pm, so it was packed, but not that bad. I think I spent more time trying to park than actually shopping.
I have a HUGE medical exam tomorrow which I’ve been studying for over Thanksgiving break, so I couldn’t justify spending all day shopping. If I didn’t have this exam, I would’ve spent way too much money on shirts & ties for the interview season coming up.
My Black Friday sucked because by the time I could get assistance the items I wanted were all gone, being blind it is tough to compete with sighted shoppers.
My black friday sucked because I’m too broke to go shopping this year. My car broke down and cost $1000 to fix which has left me having a blue holiday. On a cheerful note, at least my sister is coming to visit for the holiday, and our family will have a nice dinner.
I did not get to go shopping on Black Friday. My company has us on short time and maybe close by the first of the year - if it lasts that long! My wonderful but disabled wife of more than 38 years can not work and is trying to get on disablity but there is at least a two year wait on a hearing - so she has no insurance and is not rec’ving any money. She likes to do cards on the computer and sometimes the computer and printer takes so long to finish that she laids down until it finishes - and she has no speakers. Thank you for this great contest and prize.
I bought a home theatre system on BF. No crowds, no hassles, just point and click… the beauty of online shopping.
I actually bought clothes on Black Friday. I got some great deals and discounts and only had to wait in two check-out lines for about 15 minutes each. Not a bad shopping day.
I SPENT THE WHOLE DAY AT MY DAUGHTERS RANCH…WE WATCHED TV AND PIGGED OUT..NO SHOPPING INVOLVED AT ALL.
My black friday was pretty black. Snow, long lines, and sold out goodies. Then I came home and pigged out on leftover French Silk Pie. I sooo deserved it after the battle for goods at the Black Friday stores.
Like alot of other people, I am on a fixed income and just didnt have any money at all on Black Friday. There were several things I really wanted to buy but just couldnt. It really sucked out loud!
I didn’t get anything at all on Black Friday because I was working in a remote location, no where near shopping.
My Black Friday sucked because I couldn’t shop. On the other hand, I read that the sales were good and that makes me happy.
I purchased an additional 4GB of ram from newegg. Yeah, kinda boring.
MWM
Actually Black Friday was not that important this year since I was able to get most of the necessary stuff online at a great price. That meant that I could sleep in and go out later for items that were great deals to get, but not absolutely required. Even late, there still were a lot of crazy people in the stores.
Major online purchases include Sony laptop CR series and Klipsch RVX42 speakers. In store purchases include miter saw, weed eater, and Passport external drive. I do not know if I should classify the iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner as an online or in store purchase (see below).
Worst experience of the week: I picked up an iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner from Fry’s in their Wednesday before Thanksgiving sale. It was supposed to be an easy pay online - pickup at local store type arrangement. Fry’s was absolutely clueless when I showed up at the store. I should have known that there would be a problem when the site did not mention what to do when you got to the store. So, I just went to the department, showed the salesperson my printout and he just gave me the unit and told me to take it to the front register for checkout. At the register, I showed them the paperwork while I told them that it was purchased online. They immediately charged my card full price. Then it took more than a half hour to figure out how to get their system to ring up the online price and adjust the charges.
Fry’s apparently does not charge your card online, but rather at the store. They also have not trained their employees on how to handle an online purchase.
I didn’t buy a single solitary thing on Black Friday.
Black Friday sucked because I had to work all day. (Not retail, thank heaven.)
Hats off To Black Friday,
I thought with a swagger,
Oh the places I’ll go,
And with who? Doesn’t matter…
So this cool little cat got up early and bright,
But no,it can’t be, I can’t talk at all, right!
Well this laryngitis made me furious,
And still I was curious,
To shop at the sales, voice is no choice…..
So then I did drive away,
Can’t speak so my arms just flay.
Searching to find a spot,
With people in the lot saving the spaces,
I must admit I was making some faces!
And trying to be not the last one to shop!
Finally parked, and wanted to bark,
But went in the stores, with aggravation some more,
Couldn’t ask for anything, no voice, just me pointing,
and looking for Lenovo, how to do charades, I don’t know…
All of a sudden, I was pushed out,
Directed to the street and a vest was about,
They thought I was “traffic guy”, to motion the cars, and jams,
So middle of the parking drive, there I am!
Wearing an orange vest, and whistle to blow,
And I am supposed to be directing, you know!
What a Black Friday, didn’t find my Lenovo,
This is my last chance,
And I don’t need my voice, ho ho!
Happy holidays, this is my entry!
I got some great CD’s, DVD’s, and accessories for my husband’s I-phone. Overall, it was a good day. On Thanksgiving, I quizzed my mom on what she wanted and then perused the adds to find the presents.
We had hoped to get a BlueRay DVD player on a great sale, but we missed out. Kinda bummed about that.
I was hoping that someone, somewhere would offer a netbook for under $199. I didn’t find any such offer, so I guess in that way Black Friday “sucked”. (I guess I’ll wait for ASUS to deliver in January.)
MWM
It was ok because I got a bluetooth headset and some camera memory.
It sucked because I couldn’t afford a HDTV.
My black friday was great because I stayed home.
I didn’t want the shop in the crazy crowds, but, I decided to go to Primetime Video to register for a large TV they were giving away. I went late so the crowds would be gone. Wrong! There was a line to register and I didn’t even win the TV. Oh well! Happy holidays!
1) I got a 4G Compact Flash for my Sony DSR Camera for $14.99….. wHOOT!
2)First, it sucked because my husband had to work. Since we have been together we have always did Black Friday together, this year I had to do it alone.:( Secondly, I went out to get my step-daughter a laptop and missed it by one person. Bigger :(
I bought a gps fromffice max. No crowds to fight because we went out about 10:00.
I would have loved to have gotten a 32 gb ipod touch-but since they don’t ever go on sale, I’ll just wait.
I didn’t go shopping on Black Friday, I had no money to shop, but I could have used a lot!
1) Didn’t go out to shop on Black Friday. Went ice skating instead. A relaxing day.
1) Tried to get the HP 40% Cashback for a Mini 1000. No luck, and didn’t want to hang around hitting refresh over and over.
I did not see anything spectacular to cause me to go outside in the chaos.
it sucked because I had to work overnight into the morning, but I did get a camera on walmart.com :)
well i went to a computer/appliance store, got no help, stood in line for 20 min. to check out, got to the car, called my friend to say “i got your hardware for you” she told me…”i already got it” i then had to stand in line 25min. to return the thing, so go ahead ask me how my day was
My whole season will suck because I haven’t had a job in 2 years (all of my jobs are now overseas) and I can’t buy gifts for anyone regardless of the deals. Love to buy things for friends, hate it when I can’t.
I bought a 10 dollar stick vac.
I was worth the wait.
I had to work for 7 hours that day. We had few people come into the store.
We bought a few saltwater fish items including a great new fish. It was a great day, low traffic, shorts lines since we visited small local stores.
I slept in and bought Fallout 3 from Amazon for $30 and some DVDs from Right Stuf. I was hoping on a netbook, but that didn’t happen for obvious reasons.
I slept in a little, then got on the computer and did all of my shopping. Bought HD Television for daughter, dvds for my son and luggage for my husband. Great Black Friday!
I worked in a local, small retail store on Black Friday, which is why mine sucked. I did get sore feet and an aching back, neither of which I wanted. But, it was a good day for the store, and I think a lot of the customers went away happy to have found some unique items, so I got some satisfaction out of it.
I couldn’t go shopping on b friday because i got a root canal (part one) and it’s fricken killing me. part 2 is tommorow (monday) save me
did not have any money to shop. that sucked
I was visiting relatives when my paycheck hit the bank. I was all psyched to get a netbook from Amazon for my new job, then the inevitable happened: unexpected bills. Son #1 needed a ticket back to school, son #2 needed a knee brace and my darling wife actually had to go shopping for food. Imagine that…excuses for not shopping…
With nothing left of the paycheck, Black Friday was just a little more bleak. But Turkey Day was good! Hooray Leftovers!
1) Medicine for my daughter
2) Didn’t get to shop because my two month old got really sick and we had to stay home and help her. I was looking forward to going out because this is my first year not working retail at this time of year. Oh well, there’s always next year!
Black Friday sucked because I did not have any money to shop. Looking at all those bargains and did not have any money really really really sucks!
My black friday sucked; when there are really no stores there is really no black Friday..oh well at least they still deilver
I had a great black friday.
I spent it with my family and managed to score an eee pc 1000 online at a sweet price.
I bought a mr coffee iced tea maker at amazon.com
I had a good black friday, thanks.
My Black Friday was perfect since I didn’t venture out of the house. I’m not crazy about crowds and traffic and was smart this year and did my shopping on the internet. My biggest purchase was a new Ipod for my 22 year old son. He should be a happy and surprised camper when he opens that one up.
I’m sorry that your Black Friday sucked and hope that HP got everything fixed for you. Watched your video and it’s nice to see that even though you had a lousy one that you’re generous enough to give these great goodies away.
I would have had alot more fun shopping if I had this great Lenovo IdeaPad S10.
I would love to win this to make 2009 an even better year.
Hope that your holidays are great.
I bought an iPod Touch… and all I had to do was go to Apple.com
I tried going to my local Best Buy at 4am in the hopes of buying some cheap DVDs for stocking stuffers, but the building was filled to capacity before I was able to get in and they had to wait for people to leave before they could let in an equal number of people due to Fire Dept. regulations! I gave up after a couple hours in line.
Didn’t pick up anything this Black Friday. Living out in the boonies makes it tough to get to any of the big tech stores (Best Buy, CompUSA, etc. etc.) and nobody local had anything good, so I just slept in.
Anticlimactic, huh? :D
How my Black Friday sucked: no deals on netbooks or Xbox 360s, both of which I’m still shopping for!
Black Friday turned out very black for me. I was caught up in the Microsoft Cashback/HP promotion hellhole. I started right at 7AM PST, and then watched the disaster play out via fatwaller with one browser while frantically refreshing 2 other browsers and another laptop browser for about 7 hours straight. All I wanted to do this year was get my daughters laptops for Christmas - one big gift each. The HP deal sounded too good to be true, and obviously, due to Microsoft incompetance, it was. Every so often I had a glimmer of hope where I actually got to the 2nd pop up window and it looked like it would go in, but I never made it all the way through. So Black Friday came and went, and all I have to show for it is carpal tunnel and a headache…
2) My Black Friday sucked big time. I intended to go shopping and buy a few bits of technology. The first one was an 8 GB thumbdrive on the cheap. The other was a Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player. My experienced sucked so bad because I was stuck at home doing a ton of homework. Also, I was on call for work, I’m a cop, so I could not leave far from my jurisdiction. So in the end, I’m here looking to win a free laptop, hoping I get something from Black Friday.
I got a bargan on dog beds at Walgreens 30% off their regular price. And the rest of the day I went to an art show and ate leftovers at home. So besides my cold I had a great day.
I waited till late to head out, it was actually 7pm. The only thing I bought was beer bands and I had to do little to get them. I just picked them off the shelf. I did have a bit of trouble at the register as the price rang up wrong and the clerk didn’t know how to handle it so he had to run and get the manager, but that was the worst of it.
The reason why my black friday sucked was because I didn’t buy anything! I woke up too late. It was a really bummer when I woke up all excited to go shopping, and realized that I slept in. AGGGG!@!!!
My Black Friday shopping started at home where I got an excellant Wii package with 10% off and an additional $164 cash back through Miscrosoft Live.com. We went out shopping late around 7:00 am to get CD-R and DVD-R at Office Max and got everything we wanted no problem with no lines.
The only thing that sucked was that we needed to upgrade out cellphones and did this every other year on Black Friday. This time Verizon deals were not that good. Usually got deals like buy 1 get one free and free accessories. Had to buy 2 phones and the accessory packages were not free. Got a sweet LG Voyager phone anyways for $80 in the end.
My black friday sucked because I had to work and couldn’t get on the computer until very late and fell asleep on my computer keyboard and missed all sales and didn’t buy anything!
Yuck work, Yuck company, Yuck sleep!
I finally got my son an xbox360 the only thing that sucked was waiting on line for an hour but I was expecting that anyways
My Black Friday sucked because I have a back injury and couldn’t bargain hunt!
I did not go shopping on Black Friday’
too many people too few deals
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
I didn’t get to buy anything. I had to work and I had to work Thanksgiving as well. :( Normally, I go online to shop.
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
I had to work Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I wish I had been able to spend it with family, I’d rather have that then something material.
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
I bought nothing! All I had to do was stay indoors, eat some leftovers and watch some tv.
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
It kind of sucked because I didn’t go out and (try to) buy something. I would have loved to get Target’s X-Box Pro bundle with the $60 gift card but instead I went out Saturday and bought a Wii!
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
Well, it kind of sucked because I am unemployed. I really wish I could have had some money to buy at least a gift of any type for the SO.
My black friday actually went really well considering I even had two small children with me. I accomplished going to Kohl’s and Wal-mart and coming home in one piece. My biggest purchase had to be the remote control car for my son.
I did not buy anything on Black Friday - no $$$$$$
I had a really nice Black Friday - cleaned out my closets.
Didn’t buy anything! I can get better deals during the year.
I didn’t buy anything on Black Friday because I’m waiting for payday and didn’t feel like fighting any crowds.
It really didn’t suck; my husband was off work for a change and we just enjoyed the day relaxing.
Thank you!
Didn’t get a thing, no money.
Rent’s due tomorrow and we don’t have it.
Great Black Friday. I bought clothes at Coldwater Creek at the outlet store and got 7 items for $120. It was a great sale!
I was able to get the GPS receivers I went in to buy and a few of the movies I’d considered getting. We also got a few other things in other stores.
There were a few things I couldn’t get like a camera or any of the DVD titles I really wanted, but I wasn’t willing to arrive with all the crazy people who get there early. It wasn’t worth getting trampled to save a few bucks.
I didn’t buy anything because I’m getting over a sinus infection and feel like crap. I should have bought some toys on sale
I never go out with a plan - just randomly browse until something ‘jumps out’ at me, which means that I usually leave the store empty-handed. I inevitably end up buying something just as a trophy of having braved the BF crowds and come home dejected and just as far behind in my shopping.
1. I bought a huge stack of CD-R’s that I used to install Ubuntu Linux on as many computers as I could get my hands on. I am in love.
However, I am still trying to convince them that they will be much better off with “that African crap” that I put on their computers than any Windows product.
2. While I discovered a new OS love, I realize that the latest hit the economy has taken has pretty much drained me of my funds. So, I really hope everyone loves the CD-R Reindeer and Santas they will be receiving this Christmas.
Why did my Black Friday suck? I was visiting my Mom in Florida, and had no internet access. So I just found out about all the sales this morning!
My black friday sucked because I had to work at Best Buy for almost the whole day. I didn’t get to go shopping early like I normally do because I was working!
I got a 320 GB Western Digital Hard drive for $99! I had to hide it in the mouse section to buy it after I got off work!
Worst of all possible worlds–I shopped fruitlessly in am, worked like a dog in pm—got NOTHING done
I had a super black friday - had fun shopping but bought nothing - had a nice lunch at chilis’ though.
spend the afternoon with my wife - that was fun. (she made me say that)
I bought myself some kitchen items like measuring cups and looked at a toaster oven. I went in the middle of the day and had no problems at all.
I got a new camcorder on Black Friday, but I ordered it online so I didn’t have to deal with long lines and horrible traffic.
Lenovo’s are great computers!
I got me a logitech V320 mouse for $5 luckily and didn’t have to send a rebate. How cool is that? it was one of those luck of the draw.
Yeah Black Friday sometimes suck especially when you waiting online for a deal at 2AM on Amazon.com and then not getting the price you were hoping for. Damn you Black Friday and now cyber monday.
I stayed home on black Friday in anticipation of Cyber Monday.
1. I didn’t buy anything on Black Friday. Walked around Best Buy and Circuit City for a couple hours but I already had a form of everything that was on a doorbuster-type Sale (except Guitar Hero III for PS3 but my wife wouldn’t let me). =(
My black Friday sucked because I was working all day.
I would’ve loved to buy my husband a PS3.
2. My Black Friday sucked because I got sick in the middle of the morning and had to go home … stupid flu/cold/whatever.
I got a soccer goal. No problem getting it.
Black Friday sucked because my wife really wanted to shop, but the kids were not patient enough to deal with the chaos.
I did not buy anything, although I spent 3 hours in the mall. There were too many people and the items were so not organized. Good to walk around I guess.
I did buy a good dinner for my family. Sauteed Chicken Breast with Lemon and Parsley = $18. Spaghetti with tomato and garlic meat sauce = $10. Orange and Guava juice = $5. Having dinner with your loved ones = PRICELESS :)
1. I got a 1TB HDD. All I had to do was order it online. Nothing to hard. Got it at a decent price.
2. My Black Friday sucked for a few reasons. I tried to get a Lenovo S10 from this webcast you call in and order, it was a 12 hour think for a charity. Right before the S10 went on sale the webcast crashed. I didn’t get the S10. Also I had to drive to my in-laws house and feed their cat, and opening the door there was cat barf right inside the door.
I bought some groceries on Friday. I had to drive to the grocery store.
My Black Friday sucked because I wanted that 25″ HP monitor for $330 and stupid Live didn’t work.
I didn’t buy anything on black friday because I’m broke. I sat at home and ate pie.
I stayed home. It would suck trampling greeters. There have been so many online deals that it is cheaper to stay home and try to exploit Live cash back. ( a PSP for 119 shipped is nice!)
If I had to pick something that did indeed suck I also will go with the HP site getting hammered.
I would love to have bought a new dell inspiron, though I can’t afford it. I love the dell.
I bought a new electric griddle from Sears (for $5 more than one at Target, I got a significantly larger griddle!) and an ION USB turntable from Radio Shack. Neither item seemed to be mobbed, so I spent more time in line to pay than I did to get into the store and pick them up. :)
entry 2 - what sucked:
I woke up really early (not a morning person, and was out the door at 05:20), because I was thinking about getting a blu-ray player. However, decided to wait until I could afford a PS3, rather than burn $200 on a sub-featured player and then spend $400 on a PS3 to get all the features. Spent a lot of time grinding through BD player reviews, and they all seemed to point toward “buy a PS3, even if you don’t want to play games, because it’s currently the best blu-ray player on the market”. So I woke up, got a couple of no-rush items, and was back home before I needed to even wake up.
I did not go shopping, missed all the deals. I got the flu and stayed in bed sick. Their for my oldest child is not getting a laptop… which she needs. She is a freshman now at collage.
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
I stayed home on Black Friday because the Raon Digital Everun Note is not available where I live.
My Black Friday was great. I was able to sleep in while my wife went and fought the crowds!
My black Friday wasn’t that bad, the car had to go into the dealer and took up most of the day, then being an avid charger fan I had to buy my son-in-law a raider hat-boo!!!!!!
personally I have all my shopping done by mid november. I would say that your Black Friday is out of control when people will literally trample another human being to death. Really, we as a society need to step back and look at our actions and how they effect one another
I wanted a specific computer bundle package advertised at a certain well known electronics retailer, I tried first to get the bundle online as soon as it opened, it sold out in less than a second. No worries I thought, they finally opened one near me and I didn’t have to travel to another borough to get it, so I got dressed and dashed out the door, the lines were outrageous, the only good thing was they didn’t let everyone enter in a rush, after the first 10 people that were allowed in came out, they announced that there were no more of the advertised bundle left. and by they I mean the customers, not the store employees. Most of the line left once they heard it, so I’m sure black friday was great for everyone NOT looking for that bundle which is still sold out online today. So both Black Friday and Cyber Monday completely sucked mondo…… _______ fill in the blank…..
I bought NOTHING. I slept in, stayed home, and didn’t get squished or stepped on or anything. I’m very happy with my purchases and won’t have to take anything back!
I got up at 3:45 am, drove for an hour, got in line and realized the store did not open for another hour. Then, I went to another store that did open at 5 am, all the digital pic frames were gone. The third store opened at 6 - I waited in line for 20 minutes. It was crazy and people were rude - I wanted a robot at the same store, but I think this woman would have beaten me up if I had gotten the last one from the back. Happy Holidays.
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
Nothing. I do not participate in events where people can get trampled to death.
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
I had a great Black Friday hanging out with the family. Sorry yours sucked, though!
my black friday sucked because I had to work all day and couldn’t go to the store to get a gps that was on sale and that I have been wanting for a long time.
On Black Friday I bought a 750 GB Western Digital External Drive (the Elements version). It was on sale at Target for $88.88, and because I couldn’t go to the store til 8pm or so, I expected them to all be gone. Fortunately I picked the right Target location, and they had one left.
My Black Friday kind of sucked because I was hoping for a great Ipod Touch deal, but there wasn’t one. At least not the deal I was hoping for.
I slept in and didn’t buy a thing. Plenty of days left to go crazy without endangering myself to do it. Given the chance, I’d do it again!
My Black Friday sucked because I honestly didn’t see many great deals on the items I wanted to purchase. AI was looking for the Guitar Hero World Tour Band Kit for Wii, and a crimson & black Nintendo DS Lite. WalMart was out of both. And because I had a little too much to drink the night before, and ended up falling asleep at 2 a.m. instead of going out at 5 a.m. as originally planned. I woke up at 7 a.m..
I only went to WalMart, and got a coffee pot for my father-in-law, a dustbuster for my mother-in-law, and some cheap clothes that I will probably take back. Oh - I did get a good deal on an mp3 player, but wasn’t really shopping for it specifically. I didn’t have to do anything special for it. I went up to the electronics register and asked if they had any on sale. They had them right at the register, and I didn’t even have to stand in line!
This was the first year I was able to shop on Black Friday in a few years. I was really disappointed. I’d love to win this prize. A laptop was on my list, but no $$, just dreaming! Good luck, everyone!
Sucked getting up early and driving to a Staples for a decent deal on a WD external hard drive.
My Black Friday sucked because I just started a new job in retail and had to work from midnight til eight in the morning, to tired after that and there was a great deal on some pans I really wanted, thanks for the giveaway
I got giant coloring books for my niece and nephew. just had to get up early and hit the store… that and wait in a ridiculous checkout line haha!
I am proud to say I stayed in on Black Friday. I didn’t have to fight crowds, risk my safety or miss out on time with my family. Instead I slept in and enjoyed a relaxing day of games and movies with my relatives.
black friday sucked cause i didn’t really see any deals that i really wanted to take advantage of… i wish i could have gotten one of those new slim ball dyson vacs… i already have a 42″ lcd and plenty of other tech gear. i do have a dog that sheds like crazy!
On Black Friday I bought a Playstation Portable (known as PSP) from Gamestop and had to wait in line almost an hour to purchase it! Then I was extremely disappointed since the saleperson kept pushing the notion of it having free Wi-Fi (to which I thought GREAT! much smaller than a computer to take to the cafe!) and when I got home I found out that you have to subscribe to their Wi-Fi system monthly (which is why I was going to the Cafe for free Wi-Fi to begin with)!
Sorry about you bad experiencee. I lucked out with a 32″ TV from Best Buy after braving freezing temps for 4 hours! Got a super deal.

My Black Friday was comfy- stayed in bed and shopped in the afternoon.
I went to the Coach store outlet, waited in line for 1 hour to get into the store, bought a $500 bag for $150. ^^
1) What items did you buy on Black Friday and what did you have to do to get them?
I don’t buy anything because “Black Friday” is only for USA…
2) Why did your Black Friday suck? What didn’t you get that you wish you could have?
It sucks because of the dead case on Wal-Mart, which was caused by the non-patient “Black Friday Customers”!
We bought the Sears $599 front load washer and dryer! We got up early walked right in the store , no line , loaded them in our trunk and drove 600 miles home. Best Black Friday ever!!
I got a GPS from Sears online and what sucked about my Balck Friday was that I did not get one of the computers from Best Buy because there was no way I was going to get there at 3pm the day before.
I didn’t get out on Black Friday because I hate the crush. Case in point, the rush that caused the death of one person and injury of others.
I bought some Levi’s 511’s.
I lost my wallet on Black Friday
Went to Wallyworld (Oh the humanity) and Target on Black Friday. Purchased a Dyson vac., a Ipod/CD player/charger, Blu Ray player.
Black Friday sucked because I was stuck in a large crowd of people who obviously felt the extra minutes it would take for a little personal hygiene just wouldn’t be worth it. It was a case of “nice to smell ya”
On black friday I like to be scared. So I stay outside and watch to see what happens?
I didn’t do anything on Black Friday as my sister had to work so I was babysitting her kids along with my near 1 year old. They were all cranky as they were up early. So basically my day was pretty crappy.
I managed to get an Asus EEE, though not at any spectacular price, just happened that my payday was friday and I had been planning on buying one… now I may be able to compare it to a Lenovo S10, which would be really cool!
I bought a Nativity book for our family, some Christmas music, Hot Wheels cars, Trick sets and clothes. I didn’t have any problems at all..the stores were a little crowded and the lines were long but you have to go out on Black Friday expecting and accepting that. I go with my mom, so we spend the time in line chating and remebering good times!
BlackFriday kinda sucked for me simply because everything is now super busy for holiday shopping and even trying to get through the local Walmart to even buy diapers for my son is hell, so many pushy people with no consideration for anyone.
Day was too cold and too many people out shopping so I stayed home. Just not in the mood this year to deal with the crowds, rather go when it’s not soo crowded even if it means paying a little more.
I received a notice from my credit card company the day before, they are raising my rates. Boo hoo. So on Black Friday, I bought nothing, just a bunch of broccoli for dinner. But if I could have, I would have bought a cheap laptop.
I bought a new Canon digital camera.
I got a new desktop on dell-what stunk is I couldn’t afford a new monitor.
So here’s what @*#$s-My graphics card is for gaming and my current monitor isn’t.
I loved my black friday shopping this year. I had an item I wanted to purchase at Walmart; went there around 6pm; entered thru the auto service entrance, picked up my item, paid at auto service counter; exited thru the auto service entrance. The whole thing took about 20 minutes!!!
I didn’t buy anything on Black Friday. I make it a point not to shop on that day. Who needs the aggravation or personal injury?
I went hunting instead. And didn’t get a deer.
Black Friday didn’t suck because I didn’t let it. My shopping’s all done (!) The worst thing about it was the cold up here. The best thing was the Thanksgiving leftovers.
Oh, there is nothing I need so bad as to go out on Black Friday. I worked retail for years and there is nothing pleasant about that experience. The other days of the Christmas shopping season are much more enjoyable!
I have no idea how anyone was able to go shopping on Black Friday or any Friday lately. I don’t have the money to be buying high ticket items like computers or tv. I am just trying to get by as a single mom supporting my son who is a high functioning autistic wonderful child. Groceries, heating and elecric bills seem to be priority for me. He will have some small gifts like naruto cards and pokemon cards, new pajamas and some clothes. Hopefully, I can get him some new shoes as well.
