Apple Redesigining MacBook Pro Magsafe Adapters

Magsafe Frayed Apple has pulled the 85w Magsafe power adapter from its online and retail stores and is redesigning it to solve a number of problems. The Magsafe power adapter is designed to prevent accidental damage, but many users have reported frayed wires and other problems.

I haven’t had any problems with my Magsafe adpater, but dozens of customers have voiced their concerns on the Magsafe product page. One customer wrote:

Terrible product design. I have had my Macbook Pro for about 11 months and the power connector has gradually frayed just behind the magnetic connector. It finally started sparking about two weeks ago and melted.

this happened to mine. EXACTLY the same thing. only my power adapter burst into flame and melted the computer a bit. I got mad and ranted about it on the apple forums, and a guy from apple contacted me the next morning. Apple replaced the adapter, and almost everything on my computer. They even fixed any other small problems that I had, such as the warping lid, and some minor scratches. I talked to a guy from the place that is fixing the laptop, and he told me they practically gave me a new computer. Instead of telling me what they fixed, he gave me a list of what he DIDNT fix, which was the Logicboard and the Harddrive. Great service from apple, especially since I didnt buy the Applecare Warranty.
