Fujitsu Intros 300GB External Drive
Fujitsu introduced a 2.5-inch external hard disk drive, which has a very creative name: “The Fujitsu External Hard Disk Drive.” The 300GB/4200RPM costs $229 and a 120GB/5400RPM version costs $129.
Seagate D.A.V.E. Wireless External Storage for Mobile Devices
Seagate showed off D.A.V.E. (Digital Audio Video Experience) at CES 2008. The wireless hard drive can add 60GB of storage to a mobile phone, notebook or TV. should see products based on this platform by the end of this year.

Seagate introduced the Maxtor BlackArmor external hard drive, which is the world’s first external drive with full disk encryption. Seagate claims it can take up to 30 years to crack the encryption, depending on the strength of your password.
Fireproof, Waterproof Hard Drive from Sentry and Maxtor
Simple backing up your data isn’t enough if your home catches fire or is flooded. Sentry teamed up with Maxtor to develop a hard drive that’s fireproof and waterproof. Sentry’s also selling a safe that has a USB cable that runs through the door so you can connect your USB drives and keep them connected to your PC.
Hitatchi Announces 500GB ‘Notebook’ Drives
Hitachi announced the world’s highest capacity 2.5-inch mobile hard drive. The Travelstar 5K500 boasts 500GB of capacity but it won’t fit in mainstream notebooks.Rather than increasing data density, Hitachi is stacking two 250GB platters into the drive. The drive is 12.5mm thick, rather than the standard 9mm for notebooks.
WD Passport Portable Drive 320GB Announced
Western Digital doubled the capacity of its Passport portable drive to 320GB. The USB-powered external 2.5-inch drive is available in several colors and priced at $199.
Fujitsu Intros 320GB Laptop Drive, Biggest to Date
Fujitsu announced a 320GB laptop drive, the highest capacity 2.5-inch drive on the market. The new drive spins at 5400 RPM and should satisfy most multimedia gluttons, with enough capacity to store about 80,000 songs or 140 hours of DVD-quality video.
SanDisk Vaulter Disk
SanDisk unveiled the Vaulter Disk, a solid-state storage solution that works in conjunction with a PC’s hard drive to store and launch the computer’s operating system and software applications. The new SanDisk Vaulter Disk tag-teams with the hard drive to provide enhanced performance over a PC that has only a hard drive. The Vaulter Disk will be available in 8GB and 16GB capicities for OEMs starting in early 2008.
Western Digital Intros 320GB Scorpio Notebook Drives
Western Digital announced it’s now shipping its new WD Scorpio 320GB 2.5-inch SATA hard drives for notebook computers. That’s a 70GB improvement over the 250GB Scorpio the company introduced earlier this year.
Hitachi May Quadruple Notebook HDD Capacities to 1TB
Hitachi announced today its developed the world’s smallest read-head technology for hard disk drives, which is expected to quadruple current storage capacity limits to one terabyte on a notebook hard drive. Researchers at Hitachi have successfully reduced recording heads to the 30-50 nanometer range, which is up to 2,000 times smaller than the width of an average human hair.
