Smaller Notebooks w/Optical Drives on the Backside?

 

Apple filed a patent for a design to trim some fat off its notebook computers by placing optical drives on the bottom rather than the side of the notebook. This seems like odd placement for an optical drive, but the guys over at Unwired View think it’s not as bad as it sounds:
