CES: Sony Vaio Notebooks Offer Portability and Multimedia

At CES this week Sony took the wraps off of new additions to it’s Vaio Z, Vaio F and Vaio Y notebooks. These all focus on portability; but the Z series offers the most portability with a super slim design and a weight of just 3 pounds. The F series offers users an amazing gaming experience without the same sticker shock that used to accompany Sony devices and finally the Y series are aimed at low power consumption without making too many sacrifices.

Sony Vaio Z Details:

It incorporates a 13.1-inch (diagonal) high-resolution LED backlight screen, delivering a bright picture with 100 percent color saturation (select models) while conserving power and providing a wide spectrum of true-to-life colors.

The Z model has an optional Blu-ray Disc (BD) optical drive for enjoying, creating and storing high-definition content. Watch BD movies in stunning clarity while on the road or utilize the HDMI output during meetings and make presentations come to life in full 1080 HD resolution. Compatible HDTV and HDMI cable required, sold separately.

The Z Series comes exclusively in solid state drive (SSD) models—up to 512GB. Faster and more durable, the SSD unit provides a rapid boot-up and quicker access to applications than is typical of standard hard drives.

I had the chance to look at the Z series notebook yesterday and was impressed by how thin the device is and look forward to extended hands on time with the series to see how well it handles. The Z series will retail for $1,900 and is available for pre-order today.

Sony Vaio F Details:

At the Sony Booth I was able to check out the new F Series notebooks in person and had some hands on time with a unit that had been running a 3D gaming demo on the show floor for several hours. I couldn’t believe how cool the notebook was running. It was barely any warmer than the powered off notebook I had in my backpack.

Featuring a 16.4-inch (diagonal) screen, the VAIO F Series is the ultimate multi-media, entertainment notebook. It incorporates an optional Blu-ray Discâ„¢ optical drive so it can play high-definition content like movies in Full 1080 HD resolution as well as record, store and playback personal content on high-capacity BD media (select models).

An NVIDIA® GeForce® dedicated graphics card provides high-definition graphics processing for intense gaming action without placing huge demands on the unit’s CPU.

It packs an Intel® CoreTM i7 Processor with 4 cores and supports Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technologies delivering the performance needed for multitasking.

The Vaio F series is available for pre order today with prices starting around $1,000.
