I hate that my computer is slow and the fan is loud, but I love that it is so portable and has crazy battery life.

I love that my netbook lasts over 6 hours on a single battery. I hate that I cant encode my videos with it. Otherwise, its all I need in a portable internet device. Digg it.

What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
    Dell Inspiron E1405

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
No touch screen and battery life is starting to be pathetic. but It gets the job done. The screen is a descent size but its not super heavy so I can still remain fairly mobile

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
Its started to get slower so i need to reformate.

LOVE the size & power of an 06 iMac because I work intensively with imaging & photography.

HATE this little grey umbilical cord thingee that keeps me perpetually tethered inside! Even to be able to go to ANOTHER ROOM let alone OUTSIDE would really be grand!

I currently use an Aopen MiniPC. Things I love include its very small footprint, nice design, and the fact that it uses very little power.

Things I am not crazy about include I can't take it with me when I travel (time for a notebook), it's a little too loud, and I can't upgrade the video capability so that my kids can play games on it.

Overall, it has been a great computer and I like not having a full sized power hungry computer sitting on my desk.
  • What I love about my computer is that its an old friend that I'd consistently upgraded when I could and about 2 years ago, it met all requirements that I needed for school and work.

What I HATE about my computer is at one point I came across an upgrade roadblock to where it would be cheaper to purchase a new computer all together. Currently its being held together with spit, screws, and an "I believe I can" sense of duty.

I'm using an HP slimline desktop. I love the small size, the small price, and the large hard drive. What I don't like is that I don't have a laptop, so I'm chained to this desk, it didn't come with a new monitor, and it can't go to work for me while I stay home and watch TV.

My old faithful desktop died, and I just got this 2 weeks ago. It works real well, and I'm thankful for it. Going without a computer is no fun.

The only computer we have in our home (our family of 5) is an Apple iMac G5 that we purchased in 2005. We purchased this particular model because I needed it for some Artmatic software that I use for my digital art that only works on Apple computers. For the first few years I adored this computer. But in the summer of 2007 the computer died and when I took it in for server found out the inverter, logic board and 2 fans needed to be replaced. Once that was done the computer ran "okay" for about a year and then more of the old computer issues resurfaced, the computer started shutting down automatically, sometimes it wouldn't restart when we shut it down, and we have been struggling with keeping it alive ever since.

The pros are that when I works efficiently, I love it, but the cons are it is no longer dependable, we don't want to invest any more money into that we already have, and we fear everyday that it is not going to work. I am now writing on my blog, I have commitments to companies that I need to make sure I follow through with, and if I don't have a working computer, I do not know what I am going to do.

Another con of our old iMac is that it is a stationary computer. I cannot bring it with me to work on in any other room of the house, except for where it is set up in our family room. I would love the flexibility of being able to work from anywhere in the house, or when I am away from the house. Being able to do this would literally change my life, I would experience a freedom that I never have before. That is why I am so hoping to win a wonderful netbook or laptop! It would rock my world on so many levels!

Thanks for letting me share my story!

Perhaps it is shutting down randomly because it is overheating. Take a dust can to the CPU heatsink and other heatsinks. This is probably the source of your problems.
  • Ed H.
My current computers are my MacBook Pro (Core Duo 2.0 GHz) and a Core i7 965 desktop with Radeon 4870X2.

The three main 'pro's for my MacBook Pro are that it is nicely portable, fast enough for most mobile uses, and runs OS X Snow Leopard. The downsides are that it is painfully slow for video editing, the battery is getting pretty bad (I'm on my 5th, and now even that one only lasts about an hour instead of the 4 hours it lasted new,) and, well, it run OS X. (I had XP on it via Boot Camp; and have tried the Windows 7 RC, but Apple doesn't provide good drivers for Win7 yet.)

My i7 desktop is nice and fast, plays games really well, and is an excellent media center system (my daughter is watching cartoons on it right now.) But, it's a desktop. Big and definitely NOT portable. Windows 7 is nice on it an all; but I really like iMovie for movie editing, so the lack of OS X on it is a con. Finally, my video card is failing. It's a 4870X2 I got free because it had been dropped. It worked fine for a few months; but now all of a sudden the ATI drivers don't recognize the second GPU! (And one of the DVI ports is broken, so I can only use one display.)
  • danwat1234
You can install OS X on your PC. It is quite easy to do so.
  • What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

I currently use an HP dv9700t customized notebook and it's over a year old. I love the large 17" screen, the fast processor it came with and the HP tools (hp health check, hp help & support) that came preinstalled on it.

However, I'm not very happy with the small hard drive size or the speed (~ 250gb 5400rpm) and the awful battery life on this laptop (less than 2.2 hrs watching a DVD). With the amount of data I store on my laptop, the minimum hard drive sizes offered should be from 320gb and up.

Overall, I like the laptop and with Windows 7, it has a new lease on life.
  • kathe444
I'm using a Dell desktop. The top three pros are reliability, familiarity and cost (hey, it was a gift). The top three cons are that it's a desktop and I need mobility now, it's slower than I need for my apps, and that it's outdated in both power and apps. What I hate most about it that I'm tied to an old desktop with none of the advantages of some.

I'm kathe444 on Twitter and I'm following you and have tweeted twice.

I would love, love, love the HP Envy 15 - it's a dream come true for me. Thanks for the opportunity!
  • Nancy B
I have a Compaq. It's new, only have had it about 2 months. I don't do a lot with computers - browsing, listening to music, email, stuff like that, so I don't need a fancy shmancy computer. Don't really have any comments about pros or cons...
  • Rafael
I use a LG R510 notebook, its main disvantage is the slow start up
  • Sarah Lehan
I do not currently have a notebook computer so what I love/hate about it is not possible to tell you. I do hate that I don't have one so selecting me as the winner will make me very happy. Thanks for the contest.

    My 3rd entry:

My current is a Toshiba Satellite. Top three pros: vibrant, wide-screen; great sound; large hard drive. Top three cons: slow, especially when working with video or full-size photos; not enough memory; and it needs a faster processor! My only particular hate is that I wish it were faster!

    itsjustbrig(at)gmail(dot)com
  • I have a dell inspiron.
Pros - works well, great monitor, pretty fast
Cons - too big to travel with, sometimes ca't handle too many open programs, not an hp mini

I hate that I need to lug it around even when I only need email and internet. I have personal info on it and worry.
  • Ivory Houghton
I hate my aspire one! The screen too small, its cpu sucks and it cant play anything! And the screen just broke last week! I wouldn't even have the damn thing if my last laptop hadn't of been stolen. Crossing my fingers for good timing!
  • Dave
I would replace my old HP nc2340. Nice small business laptop, but would love the Envy 15. Very nice looking and tons of performance to boot!
  • Joshua
    Currently I'm using a MacBook Pro 13"
    3 Pros:
    Powerful
    Portable
    Backlite Keyboard

    3 Cons:
    No HDMI Port
    Gets Hot
    Cannot Game at Higher Res.

I love how this laptop gets 5 hours of battery life I can take it anywhere it is extremely small and thin. I really hate how there is no HDMI port I use HDMI on my TV everyday with my PS3 and AppleTV.
  • Frances
    I have an HP tx2000.

    Pro:
    1) It's a convertible tablet pc. I can touch and/or type.
    2) It's small enough to carry around everyday.
    3) For it's specs, it's relatively cheap.

    Cons:
    1) It gets really *burning* hot and loud.
    2) When I'm multi-tasking, it stops responding, quite frequently.
    3) Battery life is disappointing.
  • Kurt
    Sony vaio
    Very dependable
Now slowing down, especially compared to this notebook.
  • DarcyO
I currently use an iMac G4. Pros: it still works, love the keyboard and the ease of use. Cons: it's old, only has OS 10.4, not portable.
  • My Top Ten List of "Thing I hate About My Computer"

    10. Too Loud
    9. Too Hot
    8. Too Slow
    7. Random Blue Screens
    6. Memory errors
    5. Always running out of Hard Drive space
    4. Firewire ports don't always work
    3. USB ports don't always work
    2. Not enough USB ports
    1. I've had this PC for about 8 years. I know any day now it's going to let me down and die!
  • aravinut
I'm currently using a 3yr old compaq that's barely holding together. Pros: it can boot up, has a keyboard, and a screen that still works. Cons: runs extremely hot, runs pretty slow, is falling apart slowly. Would love to have something that can actually do everything I wanted in a laptop rather than struggle with the basics.
  • What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? I'm using an HP TouchSmart IQ816

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    Pros: 1) 25.5" Screen 2) Touch 3) Built-in TV Tuner Cons: 1) Touch 3) lack of composite/HDMI input

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it? I love/hate it's most touted feature: touch. Conceptually, touch is amazing. But in practice, touch on a traditional desktop computer is a mixed bag. It's a great way to interact with the designed-for-touch HP UI-flicking through photos, tapping to play a song etc. But trying to use touch on the standard windows UI or even trying to use the touch-UI for extended periods is an exercise in fatigue and frustration.
  • LeeAnn P.
I had a Lenovo y510 which I liked until I got the dreaded "disk read error" after only 12 months! I'm hard pressed to think of any pros as I'm feeling a bit bitter, especially since I had not backed up my files in for-never.
Now I'm reduced to borrowing or using my iPod touch to surf. tragic AND embarrassing
  • I'm currently using a desktop replacement Voodoo Envy 709 laptop (dating to before HP purchased Voodoo). It is starting to suffer wear and tear from heavy usage. Although a beautiful machine, when I wrote desktop replacement, that is precisely what it is, weighing in at 13 pounds and thus a laptop in description only rather than mobility. Even if the weight wasn't an issue, battery life is only an hour.

Thus, cons are weight, short battery life and heavy usage.

Pros are easy -- It is the predecessor to the current Envy machines, solidly built and makes a great desktop or gaming machine.
  • Compaq Presario 756NR

    Pros:
    1. Gets the job done
    2. Portable
    3. Works

    Cons:
    1. Gets very hot, battery already recalled once
    2. Bogs down easily
    3. Not the largest memory

I'd use it to keep my blogs updated & family updated on the kids. Main communication hub as I am a stay at home mom.

I have an HP dx2250 64X2 dual core desktop about 2 years old. It's a good machine, but certainly not portable!

I have a pretty new Compaq desktop because my old one was buggered. I love how fast it is, compared to the other one, but it's not portable. I don't have a laptop and would sure love one. Thank you!

I have a Dell XPS 410 desktop. I love the speed, storage space and all the usb slots but don't like the fact that it is a desktop, it is huge and has air vents in places I can't reach.
I have been told it is an awesome machine by my son, so I like most the fact that he is so jealous.
  • Valerie
I have a desktop. It's a Dell Dimension 8200. It's dependable, has lasted a long time and works well. What I don't like is how s-l-o-w it is, needs more memory and not portable. I'd love to have a laptop like the HP Envy 15!! Thanks.
  • katmagick
I am using a Dell Dimension DXP061 desktop which actually works well but alas, (con) its not exactly portable. The only other 2 cons I can think of is that I am still making payments on it and tech help is usually some guy in India that I can't understand. (Pros) Large Widescreen Moniter, lots of software for pretty much everything I need to do and great speakers with sub-woofer for listening to tunes.
The thing I most love about it is the sound system, it really is better than my portable stereo system.
  • I don't own a laptop, just a desktop: Compaq Presario SR5450F.

    Cons:
    1) No portability
    2) SLOW SLOW SLOW...turtle crossing here!
    3) No Microsoft Office products...probably wouldn't be able to run them if they were installed yesterday...see #2.

I can only say that as far as dependability goes, my Compaq has never let me down and also starts without a problem..that's it's only pro.
  • John OBrien
Using a Lenovo T60 - hate the Access Connections software - buggy. Have HP desktops at home that are very reliable.
  • David Bailey
Still running Windows XP. Ready to move to Windows 7.
  • Joanne Schultz
My desktop is old and slow. It's had power supply replaced twice, the hard drive replaced once. I didn't want to go to Vista, so I figured I'd try to make the computer last longer. Windows 7 sounds great. Plus a laptop would be wonderful for its portability. At home I have dial-up internet. Library and Barnes & Noble have wi-fi that I could use if I had a notebook!
Maybe it would bring me good luck in the job search department!
  • Val Pearson
I am using a Dell Insperion. I love the large flat screen, I love the speed and I semi like the programs. I HATE the Vista Program on it, the way internet explorer shuts down and how Vista is not compatible with a lot of programs. It's not portable in my very portable lifestyle.
  • I'm using a Dell XPS M1710.

Pros: 1080p Display, Nice Video Card, Good Speakers

Cons: Slow 1.8ghz Core Duo, Heavy as can be, Runs Very Hot.
  • Mark A Brewer
Have a DIY PC with an Athlon 1.6 ghz running XP, getting very slow and upgraded it as much as I can.
  • Brett Moses
I currently use an HP DV2z-1030.
    Pros:
    -Lightweight
-Great keyboard for a 12" laptop
-Powerful graphics hardware (an area often neglected)
    Cons:
    -Runs rather hot
    -Annoyingly large bezel
    -Design too glossy (personal taste)

I love the DV2z's graphics, that is the primary reason I purchased it, was to have the portability of a pseudo-netbook and not sacrifice graphics power. An extended battery solved the battery life issues, but the laptop feels just
  • Barbara
I'm using a Gateway M-6307 laptop, I like the mobility and clarity of the screen, and it's easy to tote about, those are my top 3's. But it's running slow for me of late. It's taking about 10 minutes to boot up fully before I can even access anything. I tend to do a lot of research and keeping a lot of tabs open on the internet tends to slow the browser to the point of crashing and MMORPG's run much slower then I'd like. (Those are the cons). I love having a laptop and mine has been all over the world with me, I love that, battle scars, you know? However, the need for speed (time is money) means I have to keep up with the fastest technology.
  • Daniel Rothenberg
I have an ASUS G1s. In its day, it's been a great little notebook; it's a perfect balance of portability and power, had an affordable price tag, and definitely had its own style which set it apart from the other machines in the computer lab.

But it has major problems. For starters, it has terrible battery life. I don't always play games; sometimes I'd like to sit in the coffeehouse in the library and just read while I consult with other students. It's battery life requires that I always be plugged into a wall. It's also hellishly warm; I'm afraid I'll lose data on my hard drive if I push it too hard with 3D games because it gets too hot! Finally, it's just lost some of its luster. I could really use a new machine that's faster, has a better battery life, and is more portable - it would make my daily research and studying that much easier.
  • omar
My computer is terrible! really loud laptop fans, small harddrive (40gig :'( ), and a slow processor. the only good thing about it is the screen i have it attached to (aka my tv).
  • Todd
    Current laptop:
    HP Pavilion dv9010us

    Pros:
    -Great speakers, for a laptop.
    -Nice wide 17" screen.
    -Dual hard drive bays.

    Cons:
    -Weight,
-Poor hinge design, even after replacement under warranty the display case is cracking again.
-Poor battery life (probably doesn't help that I am running two hard drives).
  • Melanie
    I am using a 3-year old MACBOOK.
    What I like about it:

    1) I can use both Windows and MAC O/S on the same computer.
    2) Good speed and power
    3) Great monitor screen !

What I don't like about it.
    1) Very poorly designed frame:
It's a real project to unscrew about 300 tiny bitty screws, to crack it open just to change the modem (which quit abruptly after a year :), and never did get all the screws back in the way they were. Hoping nothing else goes wrong with it. Do not want to open it ever again!

    2) Expensive replacement parts - The power cord frayed after 3 years, and had to be replaced, for $80.

    3) MAC O/S updates completely killed my Tiger O/S software about a year ago, and I spent 3 months trying to fix it and had to buy Leopard to try to fix it. Not pleased with the MAC O/S at this point.
  • margaretsmith
Presently, I'm using a Dell Inspiron Desk Top. I do like the computer in general, but I hate that it is not portable. I'm finding that I'm working from home more and more often and would love to have the option of a notebook to bring with me, so I'm not tied to my home all the time.
  • Vanessa
I am currently using a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960 notebook computer. It was my first notebook computer and I was really excited to get one. So excited, in fact, that I didn't really look into the specs because I was very inexperienced in notebook buying and all I wanted was a new notebook for college. Although I did end up buying a great notebook, it has its issues. First off, I love that the battery life lasts up to 5-7 hours. It can handle my daily tasks well, it doesn't overheat unlike most other notebooks, and the sound is great for a notebook.

What I don't like so much is how fast it is. For normal tasks it works great but I want really intensive programs to run smoothly and I also want to play intensive games and this notebook simply is not capable of handling it sadly :( (I'm a real big gamer btw). As much as I am a gamer, I am a music lover and because I travel a lot I need to constantly keep my portable music device up to date. The Satellites (my notebook) have/has an issue with connecting iPods and being able to sync them on iTunes. I can't connect my iPod to my notebook without the whole thing freezing and forcing me to manually shut it down. :\ This is such an important thing to me because I use my iPod as my "safeguard" should my notebook die and I have such a large music library that I update all the time.

So basically, the HP Envy would make me so much happier and allow me to sync everything I need and be up to date, even when I'm on the go. It would definitely be my intense gaming buddy, and it makes me drool just thinking about finally having something fast enough to play my games!
  • William Kuo
    I have a fujitsu T5010 tablet,

    pros:
    1. I can write on it since it's a tablet
    2. I love the keyboard, keeps clean even though it's white and has a very nice feel
    3. decent processor, core 2 duo 2.4 ghz I think

    cons:
    1. since it's a tablet the speakers are very lacking
    2. the battery life is not as long as I would like it, only about 2 classes worth so like 2ish hours
    3. it's heavier than I would like it, it's actually not too heavy but just heavy enough to be sort of annoying to carry around.

Overall I love it because it's a great tablet, the handwriting recognition and the feeling of writing on the tablet is great. It was my first tablet, and one great first tablet.
  • Mike
    Dell XPS Gen 2 Laptop

Pros: Awesome at gaming (even after 4 years), big 17" screen at 1920x1200, replaces a desktop

Cons: Heavy, bulky, and poor battery life

I really like that I can boot up recent games and be able to run them even after 4 years.
  • Linda
My laptop is so old and so slow it is now a dust collector. I would love to have a new one since I just started a new job and I am on the desktop for hours. It would be so nice to have a new notebook so I am more mobile. Thanks for the contest!
  • What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
    Sony Viao T350P
What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    Pros
    1) still running strong
    2) small/lightweight
    3) sturdy, like a lobster

    Cons
    1) smalldisplay
    2) tiny keyboard
    3) battery life is down to about 1.5 hours

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
Sadly, its old...over 5 years old now. Has only 512MB of RAM and a small hard drive. it's time to retire this old girl and find a new one!
  • I have a 3 yr. old e-machine, MS312. It's a great laptop but I need the power and speed of the HP Envy 15 for video, music, graphics, rendering and the internet
  • Heather C
I have an HP Pavilion desktop.

What I love is the fact that its fast with a quad core processor, it has plenty of storage for music and movies, and its cost.

Cons are its stationary!!! I need something to travel with. I have an older monitor because I didn't have the cash to replace the old one. I wish it would have come with XP instead of Vista.
  • Nadine L
I love my Lightscribe DVD/RW.I can personalize any CD,whether it's a photo CD of my great niece, or a music cd I make of my favorite songs.

I hate that it is a slow machine, doesn't have the best graphics and has too small a HD and memory.

Acer Aspire One, the first gen XP version.

    Top 3 Pros:
    Lightweight, cheap, bright screen.

    Top 3 Cons:
Battery life, can't dim screen (early batch was defective,) too delicate for a portable.

I think the worst thing about it by far is the battery life. Between the shoddy BIOS patch Acer threw together to cover their defective screens, and the miniscule 3 cell battery, I sometimes see one hour and fifteen minutes of realistic real world use. (WiFi, screen one notch down from max, sound on.)
  • Steve
    Dell Inspiron 9300

    Pros:
    Large high resolution display
Enough CPU to do almost everything I need it to do
Undervolts to keep the temperatures low

    Cons:
    Hard drive is slow
Not enough GPU for > 720p
Has some wear and tear on the paint

It gets the job done but it sure could use a modern replacement.
  • matt s
    I am using a Toshiba Tecra L2

    Pros
size has a nice sized keyboard and screen
It still turns on after 3 years
It was dirt cheap when I bought it

    cons
    horrible battery life ~45mins
less than 1 GB of RAM
Running Itunes firefox and word is impossible
  • ewalsh
At six years old, this old desktop and I are pretty used to one another. I absolutely love the fact that I pretty much know every inch of it's hard drive and all of it's quirks.

What I hate, is that I have it maxxed out on the amount of memory it can have, but it can't keep up with new sites and programs that require more and more.
  • xtris
The computer I am using is a s10-2 netbook

    pro
    1 smalls(portable)
    2 cheap
3 good enough for my daily task

    con
1 too small (not enough screen real estate)
2 take to long to reach desktop
3 battery extend out the bottom
  • My current pc is a Dell Dimension C521. The pros on it are it's fast, it doesn't take up much space, and I can do almost everything I need to do. The cons are that it doesn't have enough memory to run Sims 3 and I bought that game recently and can't play it (BIG GRRRRRRRRRRRR!), it freezes up sometimes while I'm trying to blog hop, and the stupid toolbar won't adjust and I can't figure out why. (don't laugh, I've tried; I pretty technologically savvy but darnit! this stupid toolbar!) I bought the pc used so I didn't do it!
  • Lisa Grassetti
My computer I have now is a desktop don't laugh not even a flat screen and it is at least 7 years old. It is a Dell Pentium 4 Intel has Windows XP. The top 3 pros are that it is working for one, Two I was able to add memory for speed, Three it keeps me up to date with the world. The top three cons well 1 is that I have to stay in one place to be on my computer. Two, I wish it was faster than it is, Three it takes alot of room with the size of it. Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it? Well I guess as said I love it because I can't live without a computer and I hate it again because I am only able to connect with the internet in my home.

What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? HP Pavilion dv6000

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    Pros: 1. media center functions
    2. screen size and clarity
    3. 64 bit processor
    Cons: 1. battery
    2. little memory
    3. small hard drive

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it? I listed above what I love (cons) and dislike (cons) about my laptop.
  • I am using a Dell Latitude XT2 for my main computer at home and university.

    Pros:
-Has multitouch and accurate stylus writing
-screen is amazingly bright and crisp (DLV LED)
    -plays 1080p movies

    Cons
-its crap for video encoding, and OCR recognition in my 300mb PDF scanns of notes i get from univeristy
-the battery only lasts 3 hours
    -feels fragile

I reall love that Windows 7 with multitouch and Office 2010 beta run AMAZING on it. It's fast for everyday tasks such as Onenote and Outlook. However, the HD is SLOW and i really thing a SSD would boost the performance incredibly, but my student budget can't afford it. (The XT2 was a replacement for the XT i bough refurb from Dell)

I have an HP NC6000 which is getting on a little bit. It's fairly reliable, but is slowly starting to rattle and die x_x
Despite it's relatively poor performance and lack of features (eg webcam, graphics card, fingerprint scanner etc), here are my top 3 hates:

    1) Dim screen. Even with AC power the display gives me a headache.
    2) Dodgy/malfunctioning perhipherals. eg Using the card-reader hangs the machine 9/10 times.
    3) Touchpad. Intermittent fault where the cursor doesn't go anywhere! Very frustrating if I leave my mouse at home.

    On the other hand though, it;

    1) has kinda decent battery life (3-4 hours+ which is awesome for its age!)
    2) isn't a huge liability (Not very likely to be stolen, and if it blows up it's not a huge issue)
    3) okay... I'm out of ideas. Sorry!

Current computer is a Dell Dimension 9100.

    Pros:
    - Lots of room for expansion
    - Fast processor
    - Fairly quiet

    Cons:
    - Windows XP slows down with time
    - Hard to carry a desktop around
    - Uses lots of power
  • zanvia
    I have a Compaq Presario F700.

    Pros:
    Light
    Love the widescreen
    Pretty stable (I've used worse!)

    Cons:
    Poor battery life
Keys starting to get stuck (no spills either)
    Gets really hot

Overall it has been a great little computer for what I have used it for and it works great for my son who has hijacked it for school. No major problems so that is a HUGE plus right there!
  • ellen b.
I have a 2003 homebuilt piece of junk.

I like its still running XP, and that it runs.
I hate that it slow and sounds like a car with loud muffler (fans)
  • Jess
im currently using an old dell inspiron 9300.

the pros about it is that i like the screen and the large screen along with the fact that it still runs okay even now.

the cons are that it weights like 10lbs which makes transportation a hassle and looks extremely unattractive, the graphics card is out dated and the processor is singled core... and below 2.0 ghz...

    i need a new laptop!
  • I'll use the computer I'm sitting at right now. It is an HP Pavilion Slimline:

    Pro:

    - It's and HP which for every computer I've ever owned, means quality. I trust that its going to last me a while.
    - It's tiny. In fact, I bought it because it was light enough to go into my carry-on luggage - even though it is a desktop. Makes moving easier.
    - It's quiet.
    - Throwing Win7 on it caused 0 problems.

    Cons:

    - I'm trying my best, but I just can't think of any. Big hard drive, lotsa memory, small, small price tag and footprint. What's not to love.
    - I suppose it could come with a second monitor port. That would be nice.
  • Kirsty
HP pavilion ze5200..Top three Pros? 1) it's a laptop 2) I can connect to the internet 3) it's portable. Top three Cons? 1) slower than a snail 2) I have to use the powercord connected to the wall all the time 3)So big and bulky to carry around.

I hate this thing! It's old and outdated and really makes my job as a self-employed graphic artist a real challenge. Life would be better if I had something with more POWER!!!!
  • I currently have a Dell Latitude 110L.

    Pro's:
lightweight, good battery life, nice screen

    Con's:
slow processor, hard to multitask, fan is really loud.

I could use a new laptop - I am a teacher and use my laptop in school and to present training to other teachers.
  • I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop and I hate it. The worst things are that it has literally NO battery life, the space bar is broken and it is very slow. I really don't have anything good to say about it.
  • Sumeeth Evans
    I am using a Lenovo X61 Tablet

    3 Pros:
    Very Versatile.
    Great build quality.
    Excellent SXGA+ Screen on 12.1

    3 Cons:
    Not enough horsepower
    Almost 3 years old
    Not enough screen real-estate

What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

I'm using a computer i built myself 5 years ago.
3 Pros:Fast, handles some games and its optimized for my preference.
3 Cons:Outdated hardware, old graphics card and NOT MOBILE
I love that it's my baby but i hate that now im in college everyone seems to have a laptop that runs better than my desktop.
  • Deanna
I'm currently using a Gateway MT6841 notebook (which is now discontinued). I do not know if it is just my Gateway, but it has NO battery life. I'm talking about less than 10 minutes! :O The power adapter stopped working this summer and I'm now using the power adapter from my old HP notebook. The fans are now trying to go out so I NEED to win the HP Envy 15! ;) Before all of the problems started, I was overall happy with my Gateway (memory, size, speed, etc.).

    Toshiba 4005
    Likes
Lightweight, good screen resolution, good harddrive space

Dislikes, heats up too often, slow starting up, freezes when editing photos for family and scouts, can't seem to play any video, without it freezing in the middle of the video or editing a photo. Low battery life.

good back in the day before better software was available for Photo and Video Editing.
  • Jeremy Lau
Right now I am currently using a custom assembled computer, but it is loud, obsolete, and heavy. The top pros of this Envy 15 laptop is its processor, graphics card, and weight. The only cons that I can think of is maybe the hard drive, battery life, and web cam. I am loving how it incorporates the new i7 processors and the ultra high resolution screen, as well as the laptop's form factor.
  • Tim H
I am running an HP a1730n desktop with upgraded RAM and graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT). I like that with the RAM and video card I can run a few games.

    Pros:
    - It is upgradeable well beyond the limits of a notebook;
    - More bang for my buck compared to a notebook. I priced out similar components for my own build, and this came about $100 and an OS under what I could do for myself.
    - Lots of internal bays.

    Cons:
    - It is not easily ported about. I have a netbook for that.
    - I hate that it came with Vista (for just another week) and
    - It was burdened with a lot of crapware that took hours to remove.
  • Todd F
Amd 64x2 3800+ Custom Build 3 GB ddr 400 ram

    Pro's cons
    1. Pro: It has a decent Graphics card for AGP Saphire 3850 512
    2. Con It still uses AGP
    3. con: it's amd...I prefer intel but budget is budget.

I personally love that it's been around for 4-5 years and still ticking (well with a new power supply!)

What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

    Acer Timeline 4810T

    Pros:

    -Durable build with brushed aluminum
    -Thin and lightweight

    Cons
    -Slow processor
    -Windows Vista
    -Bloatware
  • Rajesh
I am currently using Dell inspiron 6400 laptop. It has 1.6 GHZ speed, 1 GB ram 120 GB HD and Intel Media accelerator graphics card.
    Pros :
    1. It is very portable.
    2. It is core 2 duo so i can go for 64 bit OS. Currently i have two OS installed on my laptop 1 window vista home premium 32 bit and 2nd one is Ubuntu 64 bit.
    3. It doesn't get warm up soon.
    4. I like lcd display on my laptop.
    5. Its light weight.

    Cons:
    1. Can't go for virtualation of 64 bit as it doesn't support 64 bit guest os under vmware and virtualbox.
    2. Can't edit high end video definition
    3. Adobe photo shop CS4 runs very slow on my computer.
    4. 3D desktop is not supported as it has low graphics card end.
    5. Can't play high end video games.
    6. doesn't have HDMI port.
    7. Very less RAM if i want to go for Window7 ulimate 64 bit edition.
  • josh
We have a desktop pc from 2005. I've upgraded the memory and have a decent amount, but the RAM is maxed out and it's just not capable of running the graphics programs I use for my job as a freelance designer. Not to mention - it's not portable, so I have to bring work back and forth between jobs. Having a great laptop would quadruple my productivity!!
  • Mark
    I have a Dell M1530

Pros: Long Battery Life (4 hrs)
    Game-quality graphics
    4 USB ports

    Cons: Heavy (11ibs)
    Keys don't respond
    Very Hot

I really love the fact that there is no lag-time in processor speed with it being a laptop. I get great response and read times on files and programs
  • My desktop is a Dell Dimension 8400.

    Pros: It is paid for.
    It's stable.
It's still fast enough for use.

    Cons: it's old.
    It's loud.
    It runs hot.

Thus my wish for the new notebook.
  • Joshua
Currently on a Dell Dimension 8300 (yikes!)

    likes:
-well...I've kept the hard drive clean...so it still runs like the day I bought it
    -it was affordable
-I've upgraded the memory to 900gb, so storage isn't an issue
-the fan started making a weird noise about a month after owning it - so I always know when it's on - thusly, I've saved on my electric bill by powering down when I don't need it

    dislikes:
-it runs like the day I got it - but the software requires more than that.
    -the small factory flatscreen
-the fan started making a weird noise about a month after owning it

Using the old version of the Alienware m17x

Pros: nice screen, nvidia sli, back-lit keyboard looks cool

Cons: weighs a ton, power brick almost as big and heavy as an actual brick, gets hot and noisy

Wish it had a metal case instead of plastic.
  • Paul
I currently have an Asus V1JP.
Pros - Very nice screen at a nice definitions, durable and attractive magnesium case, great performance with the SSD upgrade.

Cons - The line is plagued with battery problems. It eats a battery in 3 to 6 months regardless of your usage patterns. I wish it had a backlit keyboard (I wish the envy 15 did too!). No 64 bit Win 7 driver for the video card yet.

I have really enjoyed this laptop with the exception of the battery problem. I knew I wanted it from the first reviews I saw of it. Now that I'm ready for a replacement the choice seems to be much more difficult.
  • I am the "TechMama" but I am using a laptop with the S, E, ESC and more keys missing.. Seriously - time for a new computer!!!
  • I have a Dell Hybrid.
Pros- pretty, compact, eco friendly, affordable.
Cons- chained to a desk, even with upgrades it is slow, it does have some of the reg Dell issues.
  • Vicky Carlson
I have an old Gateway that does work for me every single day. It's a tool and a trusted friend to sit at and enjoy the internet world out there. I love my old friend. It's done wonderful things with me and holds onto some beautiful memories for me too.
I hate that it has such a small harddrive, not much memory and it's lags and hangs too much because of that and it's speed.

    HP Media Center Edition
    1.66 GHz
    0.99GB Ram
    Windows XP

    Pros
    1. It's an HP! and I've been very happy with it
    2. durable - it gets a lot of use/handling
    3. works great for all of my media

    Cons
    1. gets pretty hot underneath
    2. the power cord wore out
    3. the battery is completely dead
  • Tom McKee
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? Toshiba M700 S7002

What are the top three pros
    1) Its a Tablet
    2) Great price got it @ ECost for under 800.00
    3) Installed Win 7 Ultimate Saturday (I am a party host) did the upgrade no problems.

    and cons of it?
    1) Not a slate
    2) A little on the heavy side
    3) only 2 gigs of ram would like 4

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

Just happy to have a tablet again.
  • Joy
I love that my laptop can download so quickly
I hate that it's so heavy and has poor sound quality.
  • Nancy
My current laptop is a Compaq 6110. Pros - it was free (can't complain after that!), it works and serves it's purpose. Cons - the battery life sucks, it is old and needs to be upgraded.
  • Joshua M.
An aging Toshiba Satellite A215 from years ago. I like that it does work and can handle most of the stuff I ask of it. Like basic video, audio, and extremely limited gaming. The problem is that it doesn't do any of it real well either. Especially the video end, it was underpowered the day it was released.
  • Addrienne Mertens
i have a dell, i bought 4 years ago, so i dont know what the model is.
    pros:
    it turns on
    it stays on
    it shuts down proper
    cons:
i need to redo the hard drive its full of crap
i need a better video card
    the hard drive is loud

other than that its worked nonstop for 4 years, and well if i didnt have it...wait what else is there to do other than be on this thing?
  • I have a Sony VAIO all-in-one PC. I love everything about it except being tied to the desk and chair with it...

“What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?”

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 desktop. Top three pros and cons--pros--very reliable, it has XP Pro, and has pretty good speed. Cons--well, it's a desktop, so I'm really limited, also it's getting older (maybe 4 years old), and Dell service is pretty lousy. What I love--XP Pro, and what I hate--that it's a desktop.

    Thanks for offering this!
  • What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? I am using a Dell Inspiron E1505.

What are the top three pros and cons of it?

    Pros:
    1. Does the job.
    2. Relatively new as it runs Vista
    3. Doesn't crash often

    Cons:
    1. Out of Disk space
    2. Getting older: batteries worn out.
    3. Flimsy screen brackets that wobble when I move it around.

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it? Battery life is terrible: I am basically tethered to the electrical outlet.
  • RJ
I have a Dell E1705. It was an amazing laptop back in the day. I'm on my 3rd battery, 2nd hard drive, 2nd motherboard, 4th keyboard.

What I love about it is the display. Ultrs-bright, 17" 1920x1200.

What I hate about it, is it is maxed out at 2 gb RAM, it's slow now, and it feels like my lap is on fire when I set it doen. I also hate that it is 12.3 lbs.

I'd love to win the HP Envy 15, and retire the dell to a media server on my bedroom tv.
  • Mel
I have a Sony Vaio that is around six or seven years old. I replaced the hard drive and within weeks, it crashed on me. It was actually a very reliable computer. I now use my parents one which is an HP m7330n. It's quite good but I have noticed lately that it loads a little slower. It acts up as well by updating the Windows but never seem to really update it if that makes any sense. The media center stopped responding as well. I now cannot watch or record television shows, that's what I liked about this so much. I'm happy with it, but it'd be nice to not have to sit in one spot. I don't own a laptop so this is something I would truly want to win.
  • Eugene Fong
I have multiple machines. Lets talk about the netbook which is an Asus 1000HE. Its compact and offers a long battery life but the screen is only 10" and the processor is only a Single Core. Best use is for Browsing and lite Word editing. No gaming on this guy LOL
  • I have an HP Pavilion dv6000.

Pros: It is an HP (haven't had good luck with other brands). It has Windows XP and not Vista on it. It is still running..lol!!

Cons: It is getting a lot slower. The battery no longer holds a charge. We have had to replace the power cord 4 times in the last year.

I love that it is a notebook because it has given us a lot more freedom.

I hate the fact that we have had to replace the power cord so many times. It started when my toddler knocked the computer onto the floor and it snapped the end of the power cord off. All the replacement cords have been junk and only last a couple of months before they stop powering the computer.
  • Ronald S
I use an HP HDX Laptop. It has great performance but it's huge! The hugeness causes it to be brittle in some places. It doesn't fit in many bags either. It's worth it though because the performance is excellent.
  • Mihir
I'm currently using a Toshiba A135-S2356 Satellite notebook.

    Pros:
    1. Cheap (was at the time, at least)
    2. Gets common basic home tasks done fine: web, e-mail, photo up/downloading
    3. Not too heavy as a desktop replacement

    Cons:
    1. Windows Vista
    2. Low installed RAM memory (had to add extra to make Vista's speed tolerable)
    3. Quality issues: USB ports stopped working (used the warranty to ship it for repairs), Wi-Fi sometimes doesn't turn on, battery life practically non-existant after a couple years use

What I love? It was cheap (previous Toshiba Satellite we had crashed, so we needed a quick replacement). That's about it. My main "hate" is that quality is shaky at best. Software-wise it hasn't been too bad after the RAM upgrade but problems with the USB ports & Wi-Fi don't sit well with me.
  • Caleb
I've got a Dell GX-270. I love that it's got a decent processor, plenty of ram, and more USB ports than I could fill in a lifetime. I don't like that it's not portable, the graphics card lacks HD support, and the optical drive on it only reads DVD, as opposed to reading and writing. In general, I'm just glad it's not my ancient homebrew that, for years, had less than even a gig of ram because its motherboard was perpetually failing.
  • Gary
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

    It's a desktop that I put together, ASUS A8n-SLI, AMD 64 3400.
Pros: relatively fast, I can easily add memory, I can easily add additional hard drives.
Cons: I can't leave my desk (portability is nonexistant), I am at the end of my XP operating system useful life, I am hesitant to upgrade components because I'll be spending money on something with a short life expectation.
  • Justin Price
    I currently use a Samsung NC10-12PWBK

the pros and cons as listed,
    Pros:
1)Portability, portability, portability. I tell you my friends, after having a 10.1" computer for a week, my father's 15" acer seems to weigh a metric ton.
2)Net Anywhere. the 12PWBK is wimax enabled, and I gotta tell you, the down speed is amazing. I'll be at the bus stop pushing an amazing amount of speed on my torrents.
    3) Free! I didn't pay a red dime for it, rather, my wimax service gave it to me when I signed up.

    Cons:
1)And this is a big one. It lacks punch. I can't play any sort of game on this thing, I have trouble with flash games, it's really a pain.
    2) 1.6GHz processor really slows things down, I find I can't have everything I normally have running going, lest it become sluggish and unresponsive
    3) Well, it just doesn't have the graphical chops to handle HD or fullscreen video, the speakers aren't great for listening to music, and it just wasn't meant for multimedia

as a side note, I've had to send this thing in for repairs twice in the two months I've owned it and now the wifi and wimax cards are going spotty...
  • Susan
I hate my computer because the side cover keeps falling off.
  • NP
I have a four year old lenovo thinkpad t60

    Pros:
    Business like reliability
    Excellent keyboard to this day
    Solid heavy duty build

    Cons:
Gets really hot now, fan stinks
Takes 15 minutes to boot up windows
    Not widescreen

I love that my school fixed any problem it had up until the warranty ended in September, at which point they refuse to even look at it. I hate with a passion the crappy battery life (even with new batteries this thing has compared to newer laptops) it tops out at ~90 minutes.
  • Jeff
    Sony Vaio Z590

    Pros:
    1- Light Weight.
    2- Carbon Fibre is durable.
    3- Built in optical drive.

    Cons:
1- One total HDD crash; living through one partial crash.
2- Expensive tech; tech support is AWFUL.
3- Battery is weak, even after tweaking it.

Next purchase will be Envy13 (or maybe I won't need to ;-) ) and Mini 311; BOTH with SSD's.

    Thx.
  • Susan
I have a Compaq Presario AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.20GHz, 960MB of RAM. My computer is slow and I hate that it is a desktop and not portable. I would love to be able to take my computer wherever I go so I can continue to work on my blog, photo editing and also use it anywhere with our homeschooling. I have 3 kids (16, 8, 10) and I homeschool them all. We like to explore as many places as possible and we create a learning lesson out of every adventure.

What I do like about my computer.... well I at least have one that will accomodate my basic needs at home. I am able to use it for planning and research purposes for homeschooling, some blogging and photo editiing.

If I were to have the HP Envy 15. I could give my desktop to my younger daughters so they can use it for their homeschooling education.
  • I love my laptop...most the time. I have an old macbook pro. What I don't like....overheating! Why must it always overheat. A few games would be nice too....okay...a few more.
  • Joe
I am currently using a Toshiba L35 notebook. What I like about it: 1) It's a notebook. I've been without one for a few years. 2) It only cost me about $60 to fix the LCD after my nephew gave it to me. 3) It has a 15" screen. What I don't like: 1) It only has a single-core processor. 2) It takes a long time to boot Win XP (no way I'm running Vista on it!). 3) It's heavy.
  • Pamela Ray
I Hate that it's old and slow
  • TamoorC
A Dell Dimension 1100. It has a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 and 512MB of RAM. Yes I know it's sad. It's so hard working in photoshop with this machine :(
  • Austin
My laptop feels way to cheap. It's basically made of plastic, and it creaks.
  • I'm using an Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T. I've had it for about a month. It's my first laptop. It's really kind of a cross between a laptop and a netbook. It's very lightweight, just 3.5 pounds. The 13.3" screen is small, but adequate for browsing, email, and word processing. It has a 500gb hard drive, which is amazing for a laptop. The only thing I don't like about it is the 1.4ghz processor. It's not enough to run a good graphics program. It's inconvenient not to have a CD or DVD drive, but that's the trade-off for the weight. I'm getting used to the touchpad, but I still have a tendency to brush against it with the heel of my hand when I'm typing. It's easy enough to turn it off, when I think to do it. Why don't they put the touchpad at the top of the keyboard instead of the bottom? I think that would be better for me, but maybe I'm weird that way. Also, it's a gesture touchpad, so I'll try to move the cursor across the page and suddenly find myself scrolling, which is unnerving. Overall, though, I adore the computer. We were a one-computer household, and it is so great not to have to fight over whose turn it is.

I currently use an Sony VAIO Z customized notebook and it’s over a year old. I love the large 13″ screen, the fast processor it came with and the HP tools (hp health check, hp help & support) that came preinstalled on it.

However, I’m not very happy with the small hard drive size or the speed (~ 250gb 5400rpm) and the awful battery life on this laptop (less than 2.2 hrs watching a DVD). With the amount of data I store on my laptop, the minimum hard drive sizes offered should be from 320gb and up.

Overall, I like the laptop and with Windows 7, it has a new lease on life.
  • My3Sons33
I am currently using an old Dell Dimension 2400? desktop.
    Pros:
Free (parents bought it for us)
I loved that it was just what I needed when I upgraded from my HP Pavillion 5 years ago.
That it hasn't completely died on me as of yet.
    Cons:
I hate that it is now outdated and can't use most programs
    Slow as molasses
It's not portable, so I am stuck in one room when I use it.

I've got a home-built desktop as my primary, though I also have a 17" MacBook Pro through work. Not a fan of the MBP, really. Too big and hot, and honestly OSX is way overrated--three big cons, but I have it 'cause I have to have some kind of Mac for development. Pros though would be 1) multi-touch track pad (must have in any new laptop), 2) amazing magnetic power connector, and 3) bought just before they went brain dead and made the batteries non-removable and the screens all glossy.
  • Reid Kistler
Dell Inspiron 450MHz PIII with 256MB RAM, 14.1" screen & (upgraded!) 40GB HD....

Love: that it is paid for; that Win 2000 Pro runs without a glitch; that it has a "track point" as well as a touch pad; that it still boots....

Hate: that neither battery will hold a charge any more; the second RAM slot no longer recognizes RAM modules; many newer apps take forever to run....
  • My Dell Dimension:
    Pros: Was a graduation gift
    Still chugging along
    Fits under my desk nicely

    Cons:
    Not so new
    Hard to access USB ports
    Hard to open case

I hate that it isn't portable! I want to be like the cool kids at Starbucks with their laptops!
  • Nicholas Weikel
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

Dell Inspiron B120, Pros, besides the fact that it was cheap... NONE!!!! Cons... battery life, no HDMI out, and the keyboard feel.

I can't wait to send this puppy to the recyclers.
  • Cade
    Custom built i7 computer w/ 285gtx.

    Top 3,
-Custom built exactly how I want it
-Multicore, raided raptors, and 285gtx is more powerful than anything that I use it for.
    -2x 24inch monitors are amazing.
    Bottom 3
    -Not portable.
    -Expensive
-Generates lots of heat and high power consumption

I love the performance of the desktop, I hate the lack of portability.
  • danpaw
    Dell Latitude D620

    Pros
    +Very Solid (Dropped several times)
+Everything is swapable (Can easy remove HD and/or CD to use another)
    +High Resolution Display (1440x900 @ 14")

    Cons
    +Display is not very bright
+Lacking ports like IEEE1394, eSATA, Express Card, HDMI, etc
+Wretched onboard speaker, my cell phone sounds better.

It has been rock solid and for that I love it. What I hate, is that for the past 3+ years there has been very little gain in the laptop market, until now. Like at the time I bought the D620 (Pentium M > Core Duo)
  • Bryon Lim
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

I am currently using an HP Pavilion zd7168cl notebook computer.

    It's top 3 pros:
    1) I've had this machine for 5 years and it still works decently.

    2) It has a graphics card (Nvidia GeForce FX go5600).

    3) It has a big screen (17 inches).

    It's top 3 cons:
    1) The battery is essentially dead so I need to keep it plugged in at all times.

    2) It's very heavy.

    3) The screen hinge is broke so the screen can't stand on it's own.

I really love this computer because it had a desktop class Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading and it can still keep up with alot of computers this day and age. However, I hated the fact that it really wasn't mobile and it was a pain to lug it around while I was in school.
  • I am using an Acer Aspire 5670!

    The Pro's:
    1) It used to be fast
    2) The keyboard is nice
    3) I like the slot-loading drive

    The Con's:
    1) The webcam broke very quickly and everytime it gets repaired it just breaks again
    2) The motherboard and screen have broken on me more than once.
    3) The outdated laptop has a meager 120GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM so I use an external drive for more space.
  • Wilson
currently using a Sony Vaio Z notebook computer.

    pros:
    1) compact

    2) can switch graphics on and off

    3) has good battery life

    cons:
    1) it was too expensive

    2) feels really fragile

    3) it starts to run really warm for extended periods of use

My favorite thing about this computer is I can take it anywhere for extended use without bringing my power cord around. It also has a really sleek look!
  • JD_Denver
I use an Acer Aspire One 10" netbook to take minutes at various nonprofit Board meetings. It's small enough to easily fit in the back of my wheelchair, has a long enough battery life with its six-cell battery to let me go several hours without plugging it in, and was relatively inexpensive. Cons: It's slow booting up, the screen is small (but useuable), and requires an external optical drive if you need to use CDs or DVDs. The portability is the biggest positive factor for me.
  • B. Marcus
    Asus G51

    It's top 3 pros:
    1) Nvidia 260m GTX

    2) It runs pretty cool for a gaming laptop

    3) I only got for $999.99 which is a bargain with all the features it came with.

    It's top 3 cons:
    1) It looks cheap and has boyish looks

    2) SUPER HEAVY!

    3) no Core i7 (I should have waited a little longer before purchasing a new laptop)

I love this computer because of it's value considering how much I paid for it.
  • Brian
    I currently use my wife's MBP 17.

    pros = [a='The hardware', b='The OS', "#{a} AND #{b}"]
cons = ['Not mine...', 'The keyboard', '$$$']

There's nothing not to like about a quiet, light, 17" WUXGA aluminium beauty with decent power and battery life running a great OS, expect for the fact that it's not mine, it's missing keys/buttons Steve decided I didn't need, and I really need something running Linux.
  • Mike
I hate not having a notebook. I have an IBM desktop but would love the freedom of a laptop. Able to access my work anywhere and able to leave my desk behind.
  • Leticia
    HP Pavilion dv2

    The good:
    1) For a small computer, this thing can handle everything I throw at it including 1080p bluray and HD streams from the internet.

    2) Very compact and lightweight

    3) Has a durable and solid feel.

    It's top 3 cons:
    1) It's got awful battery life for a small computer.

    2) Single Core CPU so starts to slow down when multitasking in Vista.

    3) It attracts fingerprints.

I love my computer because it's very capable and lightweight!
  • bsieve
I have a notebook but after buying it as always I realized it was not powerful enough this one would definitely have the horsepower
  • Linda
What I love about my computer: it's still pretty fast even though it's getting old (5 years).

What I hate about my computer: it's a desktop and it's not portable.
  • Bryon
    Sony Vaio CR

pros: very sophisticated looking, island keyboard that's quiet, powerful penryn processor

cons: intel GMA x3100 can't handle any games, loose battery, slow connecting to wireless networks

I love my computer because it has a bright screen and good battery life.
  • I am currently on a terribly old laptop ~ Toshiba 2105CDS. My desktop, a Gateway (not sure of the model but it's 7 years old), keeps shutting off and the computer guys haven't fixed it even though it's been in the shop 2 times w/ the same problem!

The problems with this laptop are vast, but I'll name a few Cons:
    1. It runs SLOW, even though we use Turbo RoadRunner service
    2. It closes out on me all of the time saying 'Virtual memory low' or 'Firefox has crashed'
    3. The outlet plug is faulty and I have to put it a certain way or it will turn off on me all together
    4. On certain sites, like Twitter and Facebook, each letter I type takes at least 1 second to come up taking forever to type a reply!
    5. Video will not play at all! I've been missing out on so many great things.
    6. Audio works sometimes, but mostly not.

I could go on... but on to the pros:
    1. It provides me internet access.
    2. It fits on my desk.
    3. ???????

So, please please please let me win the perfect HP ENVY!!!

Did I mention that I have Windows 2000? HELP! :)

    @vantalee on twitter

Thanks so much for running the contest!!!
  • I have an HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC.

Pros: It runs the programs I need (Adobe software like Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc., as well as Sims3 and other games for fun). It fits in my backpack with my textbooks. It has a numberpad.

Cons: battery life could be better. Sometimes it takes awhile to connect to the Internet wirelessly. It's a little on the heavy side.

I'm really happy with my laptop, with no immediate plans to change - I've only had this since March. I use it for classes and sometimes at work. I also do web design and genealogy. My family of three has three computers and two are HP.
  • Amaris L.
    Vaio

    pros:
    1) The color (Sangria Red)
    2) It runs quiet.
    3) The fact that it's a Sony. I love Sony's.

    cons:
    1) loose battery
    2) It feels slightly heavy.
    3) The screen could be brighter.

I love my computer. It does everything I want it too.
  • Ralph Montgomery
Currently have a used HP nx9420, XP, 4GB ram. Love this business class machine for it's sturdy build, beautiful 17 in. screen and reliability.

Given today's class of CPU's, it is a bit outdated, limited to just 4 GB of ram. A faster Quad core, 8 or 16 GB ram and a faster GPU would run today's tasks without breaking a sweat.

However, I haven't found a better built laptop from HP than the NX 9420.
  • B. Lim
got a MBP 15" before unibody style

    Great because:
    1) It's fast.

    2) I've had my computer for a while now but it still looks brand new and I attribute that to Apple's excellent craftsmanship.

    3) It has a decent graphics card.

    Not so good because:
    1) The battery is essentially dead so I need to replace it.

    2) It feels a little bit heavy.

    3) It could have a brighter screen.

Everything (except the battery) just works great and fast!!!
  • Amaris
    MBP 17" unibody Core 2 Duo 3.06 ghz, 8 gigs Ram, 512mb Nvidia 9600 + Nvidia 9400 integrated graphics

    what i like:
    1) switching between discrete and integrated graphics

    2) fast dual core processor

    3) crazy battery life when considering the performance of this thing

    what i don't like:
    1) the price i paid for this thing

    2) how running Windows on it lowers the performance of the computer significantly

    3) it's a little bit heavy but i like the large screen

Being a graphics artist, I love my MBP!
  • B. Webb
I've currently got an Asus EEE 900HA.

I chose it for a number of reasons including...
-Low Price (Important For A Netbook)
-Battery life of around 4 hours with the standard 3-cell battery
-Extreme portability thanks to its small size

However, its got a few flaws, including...
-A relatively small keyboard, much less comfortable and slower to type on than a 10" model
-Lack of processing power, obviously due to the Atom processor
-Smallish screen resolution is an annoyance, but most netbooks use the same screen, so no real choice here

Overall, its a fantastic little computer that can do most of what I want it to do. I just wish it had a slightly higher resolution.
  • Alvin
    HP Pavilion dv2000

    Pros:
    Looks nice
    It isn't loud
    Runs well
    Web cam is great

    Cons:
    Battery life isn't good
    Heats up fast
    Slows down sometimes

My first computer and I still like it alot.. but I'd like a huge upgrade for college
  • I am using a Dell desktop purchased in 1993. I would say that it has to be the slowest computer on the face of the earth, has only 512mb memory. Plus, I am retired now and I want to travel. I sure can't take the desktop with me.
My son owns HP products and raves about them. A new HP Envy would be wonderful. Plus Windows 7. Reading alot of good things about it.
I would love my new HP Envy with Windows 7 like it was my baby.
  • Karen E
I'm currently using an HP Pavilion desk top. Pros: I'm used to it; It has Media Center on it; It's paid for.
Cons: It's not portable; it needs more memory; it needs a larger monitor.

There isn't anything that I specifically love or hate about it. It's the only computer I have so I make do.
  • Annette D
I have an old Dell desk top and I wish that it had more memory and it was a laptop so I could take it with me.
  • I have a netbook. I love the size and the weight but I hate how slow it is. I would love an HP Envy for the design and the quickness.
  • TIM SMITH
I am using an HP HDX 18 and it had a glitch in the BIOS and I had to have it serviced. It works like a champ now. I like the speed and the Bluray.
I really don't care for the VISTA it came with.

I would really like to take a Envy for a trial runand see if it's a keeper.
  • I am using an HP Pavilion a6030n PC with a HP 24" widescreen monitor & AMD Athlon 64 X2 DualCore Processor.

I absolutely love my HP and I've never used any other brand (my last computer which eventually died on me was also an HP). Although it's had a few hiccups (a month after I purchased it, it started crashing for no reason), the problem was quickly fixed and it's been running smooth ever since.

    Top 3 Pros:
    1.Multi-tasking is a breeze
2.Visual effects are superb (graphics, site displays, videos etc.)
3.It's as quiet as a sleeping baby

    Top 3 Cons:
1.The computer itself is big (I wish it was smaller and took up less space)
2.Starts running slow if I don't shut it down often(I wish I could keep it on all day everyday and it would still run fast)
3.Sound quality is average(It would be nice if the sound could be louder and then I wouldn't have to go out and by extra speakers)

    Thanks again for the opportunity!
  • Kathy Luman
I have a emachine. The pros I can surf the internet, I can record cds and dvds, and it's paid for. The cons its not as fast as I would like, it hangs when I play videos and it gets hot if I'm on it to long. I hate that it is a desktop. I would love to have a laptop. The HP Envy laptop sounds awesome and I would love to get my hands on it.
  • Am
    I have a Dell Studio 14z

    top 3 pros:
    1) excellent battery life
    2) Nvidia 9400m
    3) excellent screen resolution.

    top 3 cons:
    1) external optical drive feels slow
    2) could have a bigger hard drive
    3) feels thick for a computer with no built in optical drive

This computer can do pretty much everything I throw at it!
  • Phillip
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
My computer was "custom" (back in 2002). Pentium 4, 256MB RAM and a 40 GB hard drive.

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    Con:
    1. It's quite slow compared to today's computers
    2. It's loud.
    3. It's not portable.

    Pro:
    1. It hasn't had a problem since I wiped it a year ago.
    2. I can still write my assignments on OpenOffice.
    3. I can still use the internet.

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

I hate how slow it is and how it gets hung up randomly.
  • heather
We have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600

Three Pros: 1. It has a TV out [RCA] built in 2. It still works after 9 years ! 3. It is a reputable brand and has been easier getting drivers etc

Three Cons: 1. To slow for video 750Mhz PIII :( 2. Only 20GB drive and 256Mbit of RAM 3. No USB 2.0

We love it because it has served us so well reliability and in fuction
  • Wade Chapman
    Alienware Area 51
    Pros:
5 years old and most of todays newest games are still playable (settings lowered)
    0 hardware failures
Very upgradeable for the first 3 years
    Cons:
Undersized power supply for todays video cards
    Proprietary BIOS
    Noisy
I love the full tower case, the hidden wiring and the build quality. I hate that they are no longer built the same
  • B.C. Lim
    I own an HP Mini

    It's top 3 pros:
    1) super portable.
    2) fantastic battery life.
    3) great build quality.

    It's top 3 cons:
    1) dreadfully slow Atom CPU
    2) The screen is a bit too small for me and I have bad eyes.
    3) I can't watch anything in High Definition.

My netbook is a perfect companion computer but I'd really something that can do everything from gaming to enjoying high definition content! I especially like the idea of having Beats Audio in it as I am a huge audiophile!
  • I currently have an Asus EEE PC 1000HE. The pros are it's cheap, it has good battery life, it looks pretty decent. The cons are it can't do any of the work I need to get done like programming in Labview and Flash and doing pic and vid editing, and of course it can't play games. It's not HD. And most programs don't even fit on the small screen. What I love about it is the fact that it was within my budget. What I hate about it is the fact that it can't do anything xD
  • Kayce C
I dislike that my computer no longer has the "turn off computer" button on the log-out screen.
  • Deren Smith
I hate that my current computer is so noisy, isn't running Windows 7, makes the room extremely hot if left on for a while, isn't portable (leaving me stuck in one place), not fast enough processor, and don't get me started on its video card capabilities.
  • Robert Hawkins
I have a home built computer that is 8 years old now. The processor is a Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz with 2 Gb (the max for the motherboard) of PC-2700 DDR memory.

    For the top three pros:
    1. Been reliable over the years
    2. Has SATA on the motherboard
    3. Has Gigabit Networking

    Top three cons:
    1. USB is 1.1 standard (slow)
    2. Really slow for today's applications
    3. Memory is limited to 2 GB and no 64 bit support.

What I hate the most about the computer is how slow everything seems to run. I have reformated, but still very slow. It has been good over the years, but it would be nice to have a notebook.
  • aline
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? IBM X40
What are the top three pros and cons of it?
PROS- the small size, durability, doesn't weigh much
CONS- no webcam, battery life is worthless, crashes easily
Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
I mean I love the size and how easy it is to carry and use around but I also hate that I am constantly worried that it will crash at any moment. I need a change!
  • Patricia C
I'm using an MX4625 eMachines laptop (really a Gateway)
    Top 3 pros
    1. lightweight
    2. small
    3. portable
    top 3 cons
    1. low battery life
    2. slow
    3. old and outdated
I love the key board, easy to type and easy to clean.
  • Heather C
I am currently using a Gateway MX3230 laptop.
Top three pros: light, fast, nice keyboard set-up
Top three cons: totally shuts down every ten minutes (blue screens), I only have 200 MB left on the hard drive, very short battery life
Something in particular that I hate about it: I can't even put it hibernation mode without it failing ten minutes later. Why? Why, why, why?
    (I'm choochoo428 on twitter)
  • Christie
    I have a Gateway laptop
    Pros:
    1. It was cheap
    2. Thinking...
    3. I got nothing.

    Cons:
    1. It's slow
    2. It freezes
    3. It hasn't got the stuff to multi-task worth a poop.
  • Andrew
I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D-5895 laptop. Some of its pros are that its CPU, a 2.0 GHz dual-core Turion, is fast enough for what I've been doing, it has a good amount of RAM, 3 GB, and the 15.4" screen is fairly good. Some of its cons are that the trackpad buttons were really stiff when it was new, though they're better now, I dislike trackpads (I prefer the pointing sticks that used to be more common, but are only used in some fairly expensive laptops nowadays, but), and I've nearly filled up the 250 GB hard drive. What I love most about it is that the price was great for what it has. What I hate most about it is that the fan intake is on the bottom, and I have to be careful not to put it on a surface that would block it.
  • Larus L
I have an emachines D6417 desktop.

Pros: Reliable, Familiar Windows XP OS, Plenty of hard drive space

Cons: Showing its age, only 300W PSU, Slow

I love that it's been good to me these few yrs, I hate the integrated graphics.
  • Danielle
    I have a dell inspiron 1520.

    Loves:
    1.color! (green)
2.the layout of the keyboard is easy to use for a lefty.
3.it never really heats up to much and it is quiet.

    Cons:
    1.video card stinks
2.its too slow for all my multitasking
3.it has a mind of its own and does not like to wake up from sleep no matter how hard i try.
  • Kayte CookWatts
I am using a Dell Desktop that is less than a year old.
What I like the most about it was that it was pretty cheap and it runs pretty fast, considering the money spent. What I hate? It is not a laptop- and it has already shown me the blue screen of death several times- and that makes me very nervous.
  • Alan K
    Using: Dell XPS M1530

    Pros:
    - Pretty fast
    - Portable
    - Slot-loading disc drive
    Cons:
    - A bit heavy
    - Came with a lot of bloatware
    - Only a 250GB hard drive

I love its speed, but I wish it had a full HD screen.
  • inghamc
    I currently own a 2710p tablet:

    Pros:
    1. It's a tablet: inking, pdf annotation, drawing - that is when I can pry it away from my twin 5-year-old daughters playing Itza Bitza, poissonrouge.com or Herbi Writer (herbi.org)

    2. It's super light and portable - don't know how many times I've been asked how I like my netbook

    3. Its low power consumption and long-lasting battery keep me from being tethered to the nearest outlet wherever I go

    Cons:
    1. Graphically challenged - I'm not a hard-core gamer, but would like to occasionally play Unreal 2007 at a nice res or watch 1080p video.

    2. Slow, small disk - the included 60GB 5400rpm drive sips the power but can also be painfully slow recovering from hibernate under Vista Business.

    3. Cracked screen - One of my daughters was jumping on the bed, and I found out the glass surface is tough but not actually indestructable :(

As a software developer I'd absolutely love the Envy's screen resolution and horsepower for compiling and running large client/server projects with jboss & multiple IDEs

What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

    Ia m using a Toshiba Portege M800-107
    Pros: Size - ports/conectivity - winxp/vista license
Cons: battery life - sound quality - a lit bit noisy fan
I love its white color and hate, nothing special :)
  • Theresa Shafer
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
HP Media Center PC..hmm I think that is what you wanted. Runs on Vista.

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    Pro
    1. new easier search for files
    2. Clean and faster
    3. easy access up front for multiple personal media discs
    Con:
    1. Can not see what is loading up on Start-up. It could be junk I do not want. Not clear names of programs.
    2. Vista is not very helpful as to what it can do. "Go to site to view" and site says sorry you need to download player. If run Vista should be able to run vista info from vista site.
    3. Small one: ready lite is so very bright that it seems to be a laser.

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
Love the search. Type in start area and it gives you the many choices everywhere on the computer.
Hate that word does not follow suite, so I could type in part of the name of a file and it would give me a list of choices.
  • Haley
using a really old HP pavilion running windows XP SP3

    Pros
    1. does my basic needs
    2. xp, not vista
    3. fast for what it is, i only have minimal stuff on it

    cons
    1. slow for hd videos
    2. lags when saving large files
    3. the blue light at night bugs me (start up light)

I bought an Acer Timeline 4810T a month ago and its really doing well. The good thing about Acer is that they give us the choice of selecting features, which we require and not thrown at us and that too, at affordable price. I think, where Acer scores over other laptops is more value for money.

There are many that will swear by their Acer laptop computers and this is amply evident when you come across a great many advertisements expounding on the virtues of such laptops. However, it is not such a good idea to go by advertising claims alone and it is also necessary to first check out different manufacturers and sees what’s on offer before making a considered decision. It should give you peace of mind that Acer is a worldwide company and it is known for providing practical and first-rate solutions for the marketplace. For this reason it will be worthwhile to consider an Acer Timeline.

don't own a computer myself, but the one I am using is from the school.

    PRO
    1) free, 2) clean setup for the most part, 3) free.

    CON
    1) inconvenient, 2) loud, 3) slow for what it is. takes forever to open word doc
  • Tony
HP laptop. Its good for what i paid, i guess.

    cons:
poor battery, weak graphics, randomly lags when playing music

    cons:
cheap, does the job (school work), and quiet.

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2000 desktop computer.

    2GB DDR RAM
    Maxtor 250GB IDE Hard-drive
    Sony CD-RW Writer
    Compaq DVD-ROM
    Asus GeForce FX5200 128MB

    PROs:
    - lots of ram
    - large harddrive space
    - overclockable

    CONs:
    - Can't handle graphics-intensive games or video-editing programs
    - not multi-core processor
    - uses PATA instead of the faster SATA

My loves and hates are stated in the pros and cons, respectively.

I am grateful and love my computer for the fact that I am happy to have one
    It has a large screen,
    It gets me online
    .
    But,!,
I hate it because it crashes every 15 minutes,
    is slow,
is a refurb that still has problems,
does not have anything even to compare with the envy,
is getting old for a computer,
    the touchpad doesn't work,
    the buttons are stuck down,
you have to hit the bottom of it to unfreeze it,
the web cam has no lighting that works and is always super dark even in bright light
the battery is weak and doesn't last at all
    and there is more.

So those are most of my loves and hates for the third entry. I know I would love and care for the HP Envy so very much. Thank you for this chance to win one! And GLTA for real.
  • Debra F
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. It's a couple of years old. It's OK, but when I run more than one application at a time, I get serious lags, so that is a definite con - I like to be able to mulitask. Thanks for the giveaway.
  • Connie G
I am using a Dell desktop, it is about 5 years old. The only con I have is that is is old and sometimes slow, the pro is that it has never given me any trouble.
  • I'm using an eMachine (T6528) desktop.

Pros: It was affordable. The monitor I purchased for it is great (nothing fancy, but nice and has held up pretty well), can't really think of a 3rd pro...lol

Cons: Its slow and bogs down on video or audio playback. I've had problems with losing data when it shuts down on it's own. It's a desktop so I can't take my work with me when I go to conferences, outside to watch my kids play, etc.
  • Joyce Bogoian
    IBM NetVista X41
3 pros: It's an all-in-one, it's dependable, it has never given me any trouble. 3 cons: I can't think of any cons, sorry. I wish IBM still sold home pc's.
What I really love about it is it's IBM and it's so dependable.
  • Martha Payne
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? Toshiba Satellite-very old, held together with duct tape
What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    pros
    1. spyware/virus free, organized by me!
    2. it runs!
    3. it runs at a decent speed!
    cons
    1. it's held together with duct tape
    2. you have to use a small metal rod to turn the power on
    3. it's probably going to die soon
Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
I love it b/c it's a working computer and I'm a computer junkie. I hate it b/c it's kind of an embarrassing piece of crap.
Thanks for the contest! codisweepstakes2 (at) gmail.com
  • I am currently trying to use a compaq presario 700...it has a bad battery so cannot be unplugged. The wireless card is shot and has bad/incorrect drive mapping so I cannot delete programs and it is heavier than any laptop that I have ever felt.

Needless to say I need a new laptop so that I can actually get some work done. My wife has commandeered the desktop as she is taking classes online and thus I am relegated to using the computer at crazy hours!

I hate to say that there are not a lot of pros to my current laptop besides being able to be somewhat mobile.
  • David Saranich
Built my computer myself a few years ago. My likes: Does everything I need it to and more. Two DVD drives, card reader that reads 42 plus kinds of cards, external hard drive full of my music files. My dislikes: Lately, after about an hour of use,it gets a video glitch that in tern makes an audio pop and shoots my mouse curser to a new location on the screen. Have to reboot to stop it.Needs a larger monitor. And, I hate the constant fight against viruses & spyware. What I love is my interface to my home stereo system and HDTV. Surround sound for all of my music & video files - it's my entertainment center.
  • Patrick
I have an old Gateway M series, its way slow only 512 MB ram and 80 GB HD it does have God Bat. life can go for 4 Hrs give or take.
Like to get a new lap top but $$$

I've been using a Q1U-EL Ultra Mobile PC for the last year+

    Pros:
1.Form factor is wonderfully portable, great for sitting around on the couch and putzing around while watching TV
2."What the heck is that?" factor, people always ask what it is and marvel at the fact that it's a full fledged computer
3.Nice screen resolution for the size

    Cons:
1.A110 Processor at 800MHz.. can be.. slow
2.Integrated Intel graphics, the same barely-good-enough-for-solitare chipset that makes it's way into most netbooks
3.While the screen's resolution is nice, a 7" screen can result in a lot of eye squinting and holding the machine up 6 inches from your face.
  • Omar Q.
    Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 PSAE7

    Pros:
    1) Pretty decent gaming using an HD 2600
    2) I like the keyboard alot, although many people say it sucks.
    3) Been using it for 2 years plus, with heavy gaming and use and i havent had any problems with the hardware (besides the fan)

    Cons:
    1) Fan is too loud, heats up too much and needs lots of maintenance
    2) Poor Battery performance, itll go through a full charge in about an hour.
    3) Too plain, it could really have used some "flash" but it does the job i guess.

I like it for all-round performance, but i absolutely hate fan
  • Zeli
    Currently, HP Pavilion dv6
    Pros:
    Pretty
    Excellent speakers
    Pretty cheap :)

    Cons:
    Hardware is somehow obsolete
Not that sturdy as it should be
Headphone jacks in the front, gosh..
  • I'm using a desktop, not a laptop. It's a Dell XPS-One and I have a love/hate relationship with it. One one hand, it is an all-in-one computer and does more things than I will ever use. I can even connect my cable tv to it directly and watch tv on my monitor. That's sweet! In my tiny apartment, that does away with the need for a separate tv. But on the other hand, since it is a complete, sealed unit, it cannot be upgraded. I found to my dismay that many PC games I own will not run on it because of the onboard graphics component, and I cannot upgrade it. Bummer. :( Plus it's a desktop, and thereby NOT portable. I'd really love love LOVE to win this new HP Envy, if for nothing else but to have a portable computer and to be able to play my games!!
  • Deborah Anderson
urp... I don't think I actually listed THREE pros and THREE cons in my response... will that disqualify me?? Can I try again? Do-overs! :)
  • "What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?"

    HP Compaq 6910p:
    Pros:
    - It works
    - Nice widescreen
    - Can play some games & DVD's

    Cons:
    - Terribly slow
    - Poor for gaming
    - No HD graphics

The main thing I like is the excellent build quality ... my main dislike is that it feels like I'm stuck in 2004 because of the speed and lack of HD!
  • Bob
Inspiron e1705. I like the screen resolution (1920x1200), number of ports (6 USB / built in DVI / etc), dual core processor (nice upgrade from my prior PIII machine), hate the battery life (~40 mins when I'm lucky), the fact that it won't recognize USB peripherals when it comes out of standby, and the tendency to overheat unless you force the fans to run on high speed - making it a bit noisy.
  • Ray Raeburn
    Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A305
Desktop: Dell Dimension4600 (old as crap)

Pros L: 1)Speakers 2)Manual Wheel for volume control 3)Shiny (lol)
    Cons L: 1)Battery Life 2) Gets a little hot 3)Tempermental

    Pros D: 1)Hard Drive storage 2)Expandability 3)TV card
    Cons D: 1)OLD 2)SLOW 3)SLOWER

    Laptop is serviceable.
    Desktop SUCKS!!!!
  • Mike
My personal laptop is a HP TX2110. I enjoy the tablet features and its design as an entertainment computer. However, it's just too heavy and the battery life sucks.
  • Carrie
My computer is a desktop that my son built from spare parts leftover from constant upgrades on his own computer, god knows whats actually in it.
It's a tad slow and I could use a bigger hard drive for storage of lots of photos.
Getting more mobile with a laptop would be a JOY!!!
  • Heather Hart
I'm using an HP z558 DEC. It is great for media in living room but isn't so great for doing tasks online or just surfing at length.

Pros: fast, 800gb hard drive, powerful
Cons: wireless keyboard, loud fan, hard to see at a distance

I love it for media, hate it for surfing.
  • Steven Yagozinski
I get by with a eMachine T3804. On the positive side it has the advantage of upgrading to keep it viable (More RAM, 2nd HD, new processor)and I have a sweet Viewsonic 22" monitor with built-in iPod dock.

It's the bus that's the biggest drawback. At 533mhz, there is a definite lag and strain when I ask it to encode video or photoshop an image larger than VGA.

Overall, its bearable and it has too because there is no discretionary funds to replace it anytime soon!
  • Brad
I use a Compaq Presario desktop. Pro`s have been that its been very very reliable and it has pretty much done what i need , I cannot complain at all. Still has a good look to it too.

But as it gets older and more and more new applications and websites get intensive ...It can limit me to work as fast as i would like. I have upped the RAM already....another drawback is lack of portability and that makes me less efficient.
  • Colleen Cole
I own a Dell Inspirion 5100. Top three pros - I already own it, my stuff is on it, and it still works. Top three cons - slow as all heck, very, very heavy and OLD.
  • Lily Kwan
I'm using a generic desktop computer with a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 CPU and 1 GB of RAM. The top three pros are that it has the software I like, I have it customized to the way I want it, and it does what I need it to do. The top three cons are that it runs slowly, restarts randomly, and crashes alot. I particularly dislike its unreliable performance.
  • Mobile Scholar
I currently use a ca. 2005 Compaq Presario R4000 CTO laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit (Jaunty Jackalope) and Windows XP 32-bit dual booted. It runs Ubuntu very well, which has extended the life of my laptop, and it is sturdily-built with a sufficient keyboard (and button to turn off the trackpad!).

However, it is seven pounds without the power supply, the screen develops splotches over time, and it is now underpowered.

Just until recently the volume control under Ubuntu didn't work properly (without some jiggery-pokery), but a new kernel update has fixed that.
  • Juan Diaz
Q: What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
A: I have a Compaq Deskpro from like 1998... runs great but I really need to upgrade!

Q: What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    A:
    Pros
    1. It won't die
    2. It was free
    3. I've been able to upgrade mem, hd, video, sound
    Cons
    1. It won't die
    2. Heavy and bulky
    3. Slow

Q: Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

A: I really like the fact that the machine is extremely reliable. It has literally been running for about twelve years 24/7 and the thing won't die. I have upgraded the memory to 1GB the HD to 250GB and the Video Card. I'm sure it will continue running for a couple more years but when I sit in front of a friend's new machine, I can tell the difference in speed immediately.
  • Joe
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? Home built game PC

What are the top three pros and cons of it?

Pro: CPU Speed, 4GB of ram, fast video card
Con: Can be a little noisy, heats the room in the summer, can't play every game on highest settings

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
It's amazingly reliable. Never have any issues with it.

    Lenovo X300

Pros: Lightweight, nice design, SSD is fast, keyboard light is crucial

Cons: screen isn't great, battery life could be a lot better, it was loaded with crappy software
  • Damon Ferguson
I have 2 PCs I intend to replace with this laptop, a custom-built desktop I put together, and an IBM T40 laptop. I'll talk about the desktop, since it is my primary machine. It is a 6 3/4 year old PC (built in January 2003). It has an ASUS P4PE motherboard, Pentium 4 2.53 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, 2 Ultra II SCSI drives (on an Adaptec AHA-2940UW card), a larger ATA-133 drive, DVD burner, 2nd CD burner, Windows XP Pro. About 18 months ago I upgraded the video card, but it is still an AGP 8X card (ATI brand).

    Top 3 pros:
    1. Hasn't had a hardware crash in its life. The two SCSI drives came from another machine, so they are even older than the system itself.
    2. The ASUS motherboard has lots of USB ports on the backplane, and there are 2 on the front side of the case tied into the motherboard as well.
    3. I added lots of lighted fans to the case, and the case has a clear window on one side, so it lights up nicely and stays cool inside.

    Top 3 cons:
    1. Since I partitioned both SCSI drives into multiple partitions to begin with, the C: drive has only 10.7 GB of space. Despite installing applications to other drives, and moving "My Documents" to another drive, I'm still out of space with only 100 MB free. Below 200 MB, Windows complains. :( I have to jump through hoops to upgrade my iPhone, since iTunes forces the download of the update to C:\Documents and Settings.
    2. The Pentium 4 2.53 GHz CPU was great for awhile, but since it isn't dual core or even hyperthreaded, a single application can hog the CPU. Yuck!
    3. Every time I hibernate the machine (which I prefer to do since a cold start takes 5-6 minutes before the machine is really ready), I lose sound. The sound driver apparently doesn't handle hibernation really well. Wasn't a problem until I updated the driver years ago. Sometimes if I close a lot of applications, sound functionality is restored. But usually I just reboot.

So what do I love/hate about it? I guess I've been pretty pleased despite its shortcomings, though they have mostly appeared with age. I bet if I reinstalled everything (and repartitioned C: for more space) it would be peppier. I really love that it has been so reliable! I'll probably rebuild it and give it to my brother once I replace it and migrate everything off of it.
  • Gary Wiese
I love the fact that my desktop still works.

I hate the fact that its not portable and that I cant have more than three programs running before it starts slowing down a lot.
  • Gregory Weiner
The Voodoo Envy looks AMAZING. I want one. badly.
  • dave s
    I'm using a lenovo x200 tablet pc.

    pros:
    tablet functionality
    lightweight (3.5lb or 4lb)
long battery life on extended battery, but still light enough

    cons:
    slow cpu
    slow gpu
    small screen

I love the keyboard and pointstick, but don't love the performance
  • Biju Lawrence
I still love my computer, a 5 year old Toshiba P505 series with 17" screen. I love the sound quality for listening to music, watching videos etc.

    Pros: (when I bought)
    1. 17" screen
    2. Pentium 4 with HT
    3. Excellent harmon speakers

    Cons:
    1. Heavy
    2. Low screen resolution - compared to latest ones.
    3. Just had one memory slot with 1GB in it.
  • Mario
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? My own build

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
Pros: Core i7, GT 200 and a big monitor :D
    Cons: Non Portable :(

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
    It just works great :)
  • Jean F
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite PSA 60U.

I like the fact that it's paid for, it's relatively easy to use, and that it was possible to set it up the way I wanted.

It is, however, kind of heavy. The screen, while having a lovely picture, is smaller than I would prefer (I think it's 15"), and it has to be sent out of town if any physical repairs are needed. It would be exciting to win a new laptop before this one dies of old age.
  • Ellie
I am currently using a desktop computer that I built myself, so there is no make and model # (unless you want me to call it an "Ellie2005").

    The top 3 pros are:

    1. It was made to my specifications
    2. It does what I need it to do
    3. It is still fast and limber enough to do most tasks

    The top 3 cons are:

    1. It's aging and feels slower as newer applications are getting faster and, while it does what I need it to do, it doesn't necessarily do what I would like it to do.
    2. I takes up a lot of space on my desk and is not portable
    3. It's ugly
  • Steve Miller
I am currently using a Dell Inspiron 710m. I like that it's small and easily transportable. The battery life is fairly good also. I wish it had a faster processor and much more hard disk space. I wish the screen was larger but I still want it to be lightweight.
  • Marsha Jones
I'm using an HP Pavillion dv6000.
    PRO 1)Widescreen 2)Easy to use 3)Good sound
CONS 1)Had to have sound/power cord replaced 2)Mouse sucks 3)It's getting old and battery doesn't last long

All in all it's been a good computer. I use it alot and it's held up pretty well, but it's time for a new one.

    I have a dell desktop.
    Pros: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap
    Cons: Cheap, Memory, Vista.

    Gateway NV58

    Pro:
    1) It has 4 Gb memory and 320 Gb Hard drive.
    2) I can upgrade to Windows 7 for free.
    3) It has long battery life.

    Cons:
    1) It needs a wireless mouse for ease of use.
    2) It has a smaller screen than I'm used to.
    3) It's a bit heavy.

What's not to love about it! Buuuuuttt, that HP envy 15 would be the envy of all my friends and family. Sure hope I win it. Thanks Notebooks.com

I had an old gateway desktop computer (Operating System was Windows Vista Professional). The top 3 pro's & con's of it were..

    Pro's:
1> Though it was purchased used, it still seemed to come on when the power button was pressed (ALWAYS a nice feature).
2> It had the basic drives (dvd/cd/floppy).
3> It had Windows Vista Professional already installed on it.

    Con's:
1> Apparently the Windows verson which was installed on it wasn't compatible with the hardware, so it would not open some of the office programs which I was interested in using.
2> The OS was dated 1999
3> It was infected with trojan worm viruses and the operating system prevented me from using any type of virus cleaner software which I had on a utility cd.

    Love it/Hate it?
I loved that it only costed me $15, but hate that it wouldn't cooperate with helping me perform the tasks that I was interested in getting done on it.

    pros
    1. it works
    2. its sort of neat looking
    3. cheap
    cons
    1. it turns off on me when I least need it too
    2. it's peiced together
    3. not portable
  • Robin Bullock
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

Using a 2004 Dell Inspiron 700m. Love it. It's light, has a beautiful display, and is almost totally silent when operating. Not too many cons. Maybe I wish it was black instead of silver. Adding more USB slots would be good, as would better sounding speakers.

I love the concept of a small footprint laptop, and I hate that my warranty expired years ago.
  • Jess
I am currently using a really really old Dell Latitude. I love it because it kinda works. I hate it because it takes forever to turn on, its really slow when its actually on, and it lack portability because i forever fixed to an outlet to keep in on.
  • Pete
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
A "Great Quality" Fry's Electronics house brand notebook

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
3 Pros: It was cheap, is compact and has been relatively reliable.
3 Cons: Cabinet is shoddy, keys falling off and horrible battery life.

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
I loved the price, hate the poor build quality.

I own and operate on a Sony Vaio VGN-N110G.

The Sony Vaio line had always sparked my interest with the exterior design for their laptops (mind you this one is nearly four years old now). Even as one of the more generic items in their line at that time, the extended display size for the pricing of the item was good, 1280x800 resolution. Apart from the design and size, in my personal opinion,I would say that the flush design and access of USB ports, headphones and monitor coupling ends were of the most use for me.

Not that there is such as thing as a perfect lap top, but the structural integrity of the laptop is offset by the material used for the casing. A low-grade plastic of some sort was using and at this point the laptop "sqeeks" beneath the balls of my palm when I type. Apart from structure, the material lends itself to become very dirty. The white keyboard buttons and white display top make it difficult to clean and manage. The hinge on the display is of some concern as well. The hind unbeknownest to me was flimsy and difficult to maneuver for sake of breaking it off. It felt fragile and it felt likely (if not for gravity) to fall out of place. The display should not move from its setting without a considerable force from the user.
  • Michael Yamamoto
I currently have an HP dv2000 Artist Edition.

    Top three pros:
    1. Has a well designed cover that stands out from the typical sea of laptops.
    2. Has a fast enough processor and graphics chip to perform my daily tasks
    3. Runs Windows 7 much better than it runs Vista

    Top three cons:
    1. Overheats simply when it idles and has a tendency to burn my left leg.
    2. Battery life no longer lasts more than an hour after only one year.
    3. Screen is not bright enough to use the laptop outdoors.

What I hate most is the degradation of the battery. A laptop isn't nearly as good when I have to constantly plug it in to the wall for power.
  • Tiffany
I have an HP Pavilion laptop.

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
3 Pros: It was made by a great company, is portable and looks nice.
3 Cons: I've had to replace the cord twice because it has stopped working, not the best sound (I like listening to music/ watching shows), gets a little hot sometimes.

    pros:
    1. big screen
    2. Nvidia 8600 gs video card
    3. 101 keys!

    cons:
    1. too big of a screen.
    2. Nvidia graphics card is the reason behind my computer overheating.
    3. oh and my computer enjoys over heating.

it was really awesome when it first came out but i would like to exchange it for a new, smaller, lighter, and sleek laptop like this hp one. It has become a hassle to carry everywhere. its almost as bad as my desktop which i was trying to replace first =(

The laptop I currently use is a Dell Inspirion 6000.

    Pros:

    1. Generally reliable

    2. Comfortable, like an old friend

    3. It's reasonably fast with my highspeed DSL

    Cons:

    1. Not all that mobile

    2. Slow on starting up

    3. Had to add more memory

Its a Dell, not sure the model, but its from 2004.

    Pros:
    1) It still turns on
    2) It's not missing any keys
    3) It

    Cons:
    1) The screen doesnt work (It's hooked up to a monitor)
    2) The battery doesn't last for more then 5 minutes, and for some reason randomly stops charging
    3) It's slow enough that I can click on something, then go make some tea, before it opens
  • Im currently using an HP DV4
Its overall a great laptop. It doesn't usualy hang and is quite speedy.

The only problem is sometimes on a warm start, my computer will refuse to boot. THis is always fixable by forcing my computer to cold start instead of warm start.

    2. Fast
    3. Build quality

    Con:
    1. No Insert Key, and No Delete Key (only does backspace)
    2. Had to replace original battery, and replacement is startint to fail as well
    3. Difficult HD swap procedure.

It's a very nice PC, but nothing special about it to love. Hate what I have listed in the Cons.
  • Claudia M
    i am using a MacBook 1.83 GHz (2006)
pros - MagSafe power adapter - bright screen- bluetooth.

cons- Small hard drive -Graphics card shares the processor- gets very hot.

It was given to me earlier this year when my other laptop died. So its better than " no laptop at all " :) but the Battery only lasts now about 45 min - 1 hour ,the mousepad is worn down and its white so you see every scratch and nick ( plenty of them)
and i have to share it with my husband .I need an upgrade :)!and a laptop what i can call --ALL
    MINE--! lol :)

What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
    - Currently using a Dell D800 from 2004.

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    - pros
    * large screen with good resolution
    * good general all-around computer
    * nice stereo speakers for listening to music

    - cons
    * slow
    * heavy
    * memory (2GB max) and GPU (32MB) cannot be upgraded sufficiently to truly run Vista or Windows 7

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
    - noisy fan
    - for some reason, when traveling, it becomes very confused when it is off the home domain and become almost useless
  • Sherry Burrows
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? Dell Inspirion E1505
What are the top three pros and cons of it? PROS:S-video, DVD burning, Media center.
    CONS: speed, memory, size.
Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it? I hate the way it's running lately. I love the s-video.
  • Jaime
I have a Dell I bought from 2004. So far it hasn't crashed or anything. But it is getting slower. I am debating if I should run a clean install get to get rid of all the junks it collected over the years, and just get a new computer.
  • Elena Lemmo
My aging HP Pavilion is reliable but full & none too
speedy & upgrade would be great. Thanks
  • Tim
I currently use a Fujitsu T5010. I love tablets, and this is one of the best because it maintains light weight and decent battery life, but is also fully powered with a P8600 processor, no something LV or ULV. My only disappointment with it is the graphics power of it. X4500 is leaps and bounds over previous integrated solutions, but nothing tops a dedicated chip.
  • Peter
I have an HP TX2500. I love the portability, size and ease of use. The touchscreen could be more accurate, the battery could last longer and I wish the GPU would allow me to play HD movies.
  • Tim Diamond
I'm currently using my first self-built computer
and I love it. The only bad part is considering I used a full tower case(a CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000) This puppy isn't going anywhere on a trip unless I'm moving into a new house.
  • Amanda M
I bought a new laptop & 1 month later the screen split (It was an HP btw) That would be my con.
My pro would be that for 1 month it was great! I miss having the laptop convenience. This "envy 15" looks like a quality stylish laptop.
  • jwb
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
    A Dell Inspirion 8100

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
3 Pros: It was delivered to our home, it entertained my husband in his last days, it USED to be fast

3 Cons: The video card was dying when we got it, it's impossible to delete software properly, it came with no support because it was used

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
    I hate that it's a Dell and is such a poor-quality computer.
  • Joseph
    Using a Dell Inspiron 1720.

    Pros:
It has a huge 17" screen
It's fast if you reinstall the operating system.
    It has excellent heat distribution

    Cons:
    Becomes slow quickly
Not powerful enough to run Adobe Premier Pro smoothly.
It took about three months to get it from dell.

I love that it's been so durable over the past two years I've owned it.
  • Kathleen
    Love the portability.

Hate the speakers, not having a web cam and small hard drive.
  • I love the island style keyboard and large bright display. I hate the battery life and the fact that the power outlet is hanging on to it's last thread. The power cord was tripped over breaking the connection point.
  • Peppe
    Latitude D830

    Good:
    Processor
    Memory
    had good configuration options

    Cons:
    Weak graphics
    Some flexibility in the plastic
    Screen is not too bright

Business laptop, nothing to terrible or too great about it.
  • Josh
    I have a 13 inch white Macbook.

    Pros:
    Very fast
    Great support
    Easy to use

    Cons:
Most games are made for Windows, so I have to have a Boot Camp partition
It takes a lot of work to replace the RAM or hard drive
It cost me a lot of money to buy it
  • dolls123
    HP Pavilion Entertainmanet PC.

    Pros:
    Love the 17" screen

    Cons:
Too big to take while traveling

    Love the 17" screen
  • xemone
My current computer is a Gateway with a large 17" but with low resolution (1440x900). Definitely not portable, I'd also like to upgrade to a core i7.
  • Steve
    Dell Inspiron

Pros: Good size, dedicated video card.
    Cons: Slow/obsolete, low resolution screen.
  • Arlene
I have a Compaq Presario V2000. My computer is four years old!

    Pros:
Gets the job done (..at times after a while)
    Nice wide screen
    Portable

    Cons:
    Lags at times
    Overheats
    Doesn't have a webcam
  • mary
I am borrowing a Dell Latitude. Pro is it's a laptop, con is it's a Dell ;) The one thing I really don't like about it is its size and weight.
  • Calvin Haverland
I love the speed and memory. I love The video graphics. I hate Vista.
  • Shanda Minter
    I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-TXN27N Laptop.

Pros: Very portable, pretty fast, great dvd writer

Cons: Small display, touchpad could be better, more usb ports

When I got it, it was great for me at the time. Now I really need a bigger display and a little more power.
  • I have a HP Pavilion dv6640ee. I love the design, the fingerprint feature, and the quality of the build; I’ve dropped it several times and it still works. What I don’t like is the short battery life (now under 60 minutes). Also, I’ve broken off my Enter key and my DVD drive no longer works, and I don’t like the limited vertical viewing range of the screen. And last, I don’t like the weight. I was considering getting a netbook on the side to avoid lugging it around but I can’t really afford it for now.

    I Hope I end up winning. :D
  • I'm currently using a Sony VAIO laptop.

Pros: Durable, not horribly glossy, fast
Cons: No hardware virtualization, touchpad buttons are horribly unreliable, really heavy

When I got it, I had no idea that hardware virtualization was disabled on it, the chip supported it, but the BIOS has it permanently disabled. Now the touchpad buttons don't work and I can't really deal with the weight all over college.
  • Roger G
    I have a HP-Pavilion dv7-1245dx.

    Pros:Great Price,17inch wide screen,a good desktop replacement

Cons:Slow Perfomance when multitasking,low-res screen,Low contrast printing on keys hard to see

Overall i love it as a desktop replacement
but Hate that at times the fan is loud.
  • Judith T
I have a HP Pavilion laptop currently about four years old, at this point to multi task it runs to slow. If i am not running plugged in the screen is light and dull. And it's heavy

On the good size it has a big screen probably 17"
It's better than not having any laptop
I do like HP seem to be reliable

Actually we have a love hate relationship!!
  • Holly
I have a lenovo, the top three pros are that it has never given me a problem in two years, I like the 15.4 screen and it has a good hard drive. number #1 con, lousy speakers.
  • Amy
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? Sony VGN-NS23OE
What are the top three pros and cons of it?
Pro's: It's lighter weight than my previous laptop, it's portable enough when needed, It has a beautifully shiny screen :)
Con's: It gets darn hot! The keys have no letters on them as a result of typing so much. The speakers are AWFUL :(

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
I love that this laptop is smaller and more portable than my last laptop. I particularly hate the texture on the area surrounding my keyboard though it attracts dirt and dirt gets stuck in the pattern.
  • Bill Cawley
    I have an H.P. Pavilion a6317c Desktop
    Pros:
    1. Love the pocket media drive
    2. Customer Service-HP is the absolute best!!
    3. Automatic HP updates
    Cons:
    1. No front USB ports
    2. No front audio plugs
    3. Would like to have a T.V Tuner installed
  • Catrina H
I have an HP XP Media Center Edition 2005 desktop.
Pros - After 3 years, still going strong. Has DVD-burner & Lightscribe. Has Windows Office. Cons - did have to replace the graphics card right before warranty ran out, whenever I go to a page with a lot of graphics/flash it sounds like the fan? goes into high gear, not portable.
I guess the only thing that really annoys me is the fan issue and it could be faster.
  • Wright F
I'm currently using a computer I built myself. It's mostly aged parts: 4gb of Corsair XMS2, ATi2900PRO, Phenom 2 9600 and a MSI K9A2 Platinum. Bit grungy but it gets the job done.
  • Kristin Wilkinson
I have a two-year-old Toshiba Satellite. I bought it at Best Buy on sale for about $450, so I definitely got a deal. This laptop is pretty good, given how much use it gets. I love the fact that it STILL works. I am grateful every morning for that.

However, it works...OK. Let's leave it at that. I don't really do much on it other than e-mail, Word, browsing, etc., yet it still crashes a couple times a day. And, the charger is a little weird. It is super sensitive...if it's curled the wrong way or pulled anywhere near to its full length, the laptop does not charge. And, that matters, considering I ALWAYS have to have it plugged in, because the battery lasts all of 40 minutes. Oh, and did I mention how HOT this thing is? OK, so basically I hate this laptop...but don't tell it until I have a new one. I don't want her to stop working too soon.
  • Kristin Wilkinson
I don't think that this is "three pros" so I thought of something else to add...I have a two-year-old Toshiba Satellite. I bought it at Best Buy on sale for about $450, so I definitely got a deal. (#1, price) This laptop is pretty good, given how much use it gets. (#2, functionality) I love the fact that it STILL works. I am grateful every morning for that. I also have a warranty through Toshiba, which is nice. (#3, peace of mind)

However, it works…OK. Let’s leave it at that. I don’t really do much on it other than e-mail, Word, browsing, etc., yet it still crashes a couple times a day. (#1, unstable) And, the charger is a little weird. It is super sensitive…if it’s curled the wrong way or pulled anywhere near to its full length, the laptop does not charge. (#2, charger defective) And, that matters, considering I ALWAYS have to have it plugged in, because the battery lasts all of 40 minutes. (#3, battery stinks) Oh, and did I mention how HOT this thing is? (#4, overheats) OK, so basically I hate this laptop…but don’t tell it until I have a new one. I don’t want her to stop working too soon.

I'm currently using an old Dell Precision M70. I got a good deal on it (about half price!), it's got a wonderfully bright and clear screen and the touchpad has 2 sets of buttons (one quiet set for the tiny stick mouse, one loud set for the touchpad) which I love. It's the little things :)

On the down side - It's heavy, it gets VERY hot (running at around 70 degrees on idle at the moment, most games hit 100F and shut it down within a few minutes), and the battery lasts around an hour before I have to run around looking for a socket.

I do love the ergonomics of it though. The extra set of mouse buttons are a nice touch, and the keyboard is very responsive and very quiet! I can work away at night whilst Hubby sleeps and not disturb him at all!
  • Laura Thompson
I friggin HATE my Latitude D630.
SLOW as sh%# and gets really, really HOT!
Who wants a hot computer sittin in thier lap? Especially someone who lives in Texas?
Hot is NOT good. FAST is good!
    Thanks!!!
  • Steve
I currently have a 17" Dell Studio Laptop.

Pros: 1) speed, 2) screen size, & 3) multiple hard drives
Cons: 1) clunky (too big), 2) very heavy, & 3) the battery sticks out
  • goldone
I'm using an HP a1230n Desktop that I Bogart'd from my cousin when my Toshiba A15-S129 died.

    Pros Cons
    1. It runs It runs really slow now

    2. I can access the web All kinds of hardware
    failure (motherboard)

    3. It's quiet It's just so slow & OLD

I love that it still turns on and works. I hate the minute by minute anxiety; wondering if it's going to die on me or make it through the day.
  • goldone
(My post didn't come out like I formatted it)..anyway

I forgot to add that I hate none of the external ports function anymore ...USB,firewire, printer. I can't save or print anything.
  • Envyus
Im using a custom built pc (desktop) ofc.

    Pro:
+ water cooled with custom setup
+ looks fairly cool in black and a couple leds.
+ everything overclocked except mouse keyboard monitor

    Con:
    - using wd raptor drives is noisy, and fans too
    - for such cooling my cpu isn't a cherry-picked one so didn't oc that well. 2.66 quad -> 3.6 .
    - can't log it around like i could if i had a hp envy...
  • Alex K
My current computer is a Via vt8367-8235.

    Pros
    - Does basic things with no problem (watch movies, browse the web, etc.)
    - The graphics is nice
    - Good sound quality

    Cons
    - Unreliable (freezes all the time)
    - Very slow single-core processor
    - Old (about 9 years old now)

I hate that it also has only 512mb of memory, causing my computer to freeze frequently.
  • Jason Lawless
Have an HP m7170n desktop. Pros - still works, has DVR and TV tuner, and has dual DVD drives. Cons - very slow and slower by the day, loud, and low memory. Its slowness is what is driving me crazy right now - just an old processor with 1GB RAM - what can I expect?
  • Derk Thomas
Compaq Presario here. Paid for. I know where all the software is and still have disk space. Negatives are less then 1 GB of memory. Not a laptop, and 7 years old.
  • Susan
I have an HP desktop and a HP laptop. They are both great and seem to run well most of the time. The only thing I dislike about my laptop is how hot it gets after only 20-30 minutes of use.
  • JEWEL
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. So far I have absolutely no dislikes. It is a great laptop and I haven't had any problem whatsoever! I like the widescreen and easy to use keyboard.

The keys are light touch and doesn't wear me out with lots of typing. I guess the only thing that could be slightly negative is it gets hot but most do that anyway.

Does going thru 2 powercords make the computer itself crappy? (I have the 3rd one now) I don't think so as that is the cord and a seperate issur. If it isn't let me know !

I would totally boy another when the time comes
  • JC
    I'm currently using Apple powerbook G4 15".
Pro- Sleek, fashion and easy to use
    Con- Hardware outdated, heavy
  • Helen
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?

I currently have a 10 year old Gateway Desktop FP1520

What are the top three pros and cons of it?

Pros: it has lasted 10 years, came with flat 15' screen and XP

Cons: Not transportable, does not burn CDs all that well or play DVDs at all and complex to set up.

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

My Gateway is about to retire on me when I need it the most... but have appreciated the time we have had together... its time to move on, with your help!
  • I’m using a Dell XPS-One desktop and I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Pros: all-in-one computer, everything located in the monitor housing, so no separate tower; I can connect the cable to it directly and watch tv on my monitor, thus saving room in my tiny apartment by not needing a tv set; built-in speakers and video camera eliminate peripherals and save space.

Cons: since it is a complete, sealed unit, it cannot be upgraded; I found to my dismay that many PC games I own will not run on it because the onboard graphics component is simply not powerful enough; it’s a desktop, and therefore NOT portable.

My biggest complaint is that the XPS-One tries to be all things to all people, and I feel that while it does a lot of things really really well, it also only skims the surface of lots of other things and offers just enough performance to be acceptable. It is the first and last all-in-one I will purchase unless they make the ones in future upgradable, because I like to be able to correct my own mistakes if possible, by upgrading my equipment if I find I've missed accounting for something (like graphic-intensive games and applications).

I’d really love love LOVE to win this new HP Envy, if for nothing else but to have a portable computer and to be able to play my games!!
  • Sarah C
A Dell Latitude D520. But technically it belongs to my husband's work and we just borrow it to use at home.
  • Enrique
    Toshiba satellite laptop

    pros-
at the time it was the top of the line
a beast when it comes to music playback
    awesome keyboard

    cons-
    heats up quick
    battery life sucks
    vista
  • Sang
    DELL D610 LAPTOP

it was cheap, can wordprocess like a pro, small for a laptop (but not smaller than the Envy 15!)

cons are: weak screen (flimsy!), flakey battery, and the trackpad sucks. i got what i paid for, i guess
  • Jayayess1190
    I have an Acer 3810t.

    Pros:
    -Battery Life
    -Portable
    -Low weight for a 13.3"

    Cons:
    -A little slow
    -Loud fan
    -No dedicated media buttons

Love it, but really want an 1810t with 32nm Intel Arrandale. Love the smaller size of the 11.6" 1810t. Once it gets Nehalem, its mine!
  • Lance Benett
    hp pavilion a645c

i had to upgrade the ram to notice a good difference

pro- 1, it burns DVDs and CDs, upgraded to 1GB of ram and now firefox doesnt lag, 200gb of harddrive. lol

con- the blue light is distracting at night when i type up my homework, fan is loud, slow (ive had it for a while)
  • Dan M.
being a student-teacher for math, i need something that can do 3 graphs

im currently using the schools pcs and it's some compaq pc.

pros- handles graphs at an ok speed, lays horizontal so its space saving, and can watch youtube videos (lol)

cons- so slow when you have multiple applications, vista (could live without it), no one seems to clean the pc's registry so its lagging
  • William S
some cheap acer laptop i got 2 yrs ago from black friday.

    pros
    - cheap, about 400 bucks on blackfriday in 2006
    - ran windows xp
    - burns dvds, cds, and had a webcam

    cons
    - screen died on me
    - harddrive failures
    - needed ram upgrade bad, but for 400 not bad, i guess.
  • Thomas
i currently us my girlfriends desktop. its an eMachine. lol

    pros: 1. cheap. 2. cheap. 3. XP
cons: 1. only has 512mb ram 2. doesnt have dual core 3. lol slow bootup time
  • mark a
My computer is too slow, too old and barely works.
  • Lance Prottas
I would love this computer. I need one, i have never won anything. Could this be it?
  • Delrina (MyBellaMia)
Pros: It gets the job done, allows me to be on the internet, it has a large monitor.

Cons: It's not a laptop, can't take it with me to college, is slower than a snail, freezes up all the time, the list could go on and on.

I truly need to win this laptop. I need one for school in the spring. I honestly can't afford one with having 3 teens (my son eats everything in the house & my grocery bill is enormous), have too many medical bills. Winning this would be so awesome! Everyone I know, including those on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace & forums I frequent would all get to know about your company if I win. Thanks for being so generous!
  • Susy Li
    COMPAQ N610-- its super old

    pro-
does what its suppose to (word process)
cheap (under 200 when I bought it)
    its...black?

    con-
    sooo slow!
choppy graphics when it comes to watching videos
not enough storage for music and videos! :(
  • Josh Lo
Currently using a Gateway 6451 laptop. And it wont turn on!

At the time, the pros were: nice screen resolution, smooth keyboard and for its size the battery power was awesome.

now besides not turning on, it randomly froze, glitch during music/movie playback and screen would turn off. probably had something to do with the wires inside, but i dontknow.

I'm a college student and it really sucks not having a laptop that i could have with me at all times to take notes and do my online class. i currently rely on the computers in the library--i love being outside in clean fresh air!! not trapped inside. lol
  • Nathan Morena
    HP G60-400

Got this at office depot for super cheap. Had it for a year now and its doing what I paid it to do. Biggest complaint is the weight.

    pros:
    1. cheap, about 400
    2. has all the bells and whistles
    3. currently has vista, but able to upgrade to win7

    cons:
    1. heavy... omg is it heavy
    2. i dont like the arrow keys, theyre too small
    3. trackpad could be better, but nothing too big to complain about.
  • Jane
I use my boyfriends desktop and its junk. Its still running windows 98. haha

    pro:
doesnt lag when i just have microsoft office open (word)
    very minimal and easy
    quiet, for the most part

    con:
    i can't watch movies!!
small harddrive so my mp3 player cant reach its potential, lol
    its old. really old.
  • Jerry
I just bought a netbook as my main pc, but kinda wish I had something more powerful. its nice, but i wanna be able to play games once in a while, and that requires a heavyduty graphics card, or at least one better than whats on Acer 1410.

pro; its mini so its very portable and compact, the track pad has hand gesture recognition, webcam (for a netbook, thats pretty cool), AMAZING battery life

con; a little lag when playing hd video (not a biggy), it can play some games but not the ones that are heavy which is understandable for a netbook lol, keyboard is taking a lot to get used to.

it weighs about 3lbs. and this hp that you're giving away is 5... i would gladly carry 2 more lbs for something more powerful
  • Brianna Adams
I am using an Acer D250-1116. I love it because its red, thats pretty much it.

    pros--
    1. its red
    2. fits in my purse
    3. loads up really quick

    con--
    1. battery life is starting to die on me. not what it used to be
    2. the L key gets stuck once in a while, really annoying
    3. heats up, takes a while to heat up, but it gets relly hot
  • Cynthia N
Using an HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 4800+ Desktop. Its nice, but no where near portable ;)

Pros: fast like a nascar, came with a lot of random programs to keep me entertained and has really nice graphics

Cons: cannot take it with me everywhere :(, running windows vista (its such a big learning curve!) and the fan is starting to get annoying
  • Peter
I do not own a computer, but i'll let you know about the computers I use at school.

They're a compaq model, very slim and stands upright, thin and black and very ventilated (I think?)

    Pros:
    1. its free to use
    2. fast for doing basic things like checking email, typing, and surfing the web
    3. its free.

    Cons:
    1. only when the campus' network is being hogged does it lag
    2. slow at processing compressed files (i had to open a .zip file one time and it took forever to open, i almost gave up)
    3. needs a new keyboard and mouse. lol

as you can see, i could benefit from a new laptop. i dont own one, and being a poor college kid, it would be really nice to have one to use without having to wait for someone on campus to finish their 30 pg thesis.
  • Stacey Ayers
I am currentyl using a HP dv4700 (my first laptop).

Top 3 Pros: Portability, Wireless, big screen.

Top 3 Cons: Kinda slow, doesn't show streaming videos well, does not have good wireless reception in my favorite plsces in my house.

What I really, really like about it: It makes me feel "Tecky...not Geeky...Tecky"
  • Haley McGraw
Using my friends Macbook and i love it. I'm just hoping that the HP Envy15 can out do her MacBook so I can rub it in her face if I win it. :)

    Pros about her macbook:
its really fast and clean (after she installed snow leopard), the keyboard is really soft and comfortable, webcam has so many features!!

cons: i'm not that familiar with mac os (but getting used to it, slowly), it does take a while to load up, playing dvds is kinda slow on her laptop.

sharing a laptop with my roommate is nice, but I need my own! this would be the perfect notebook for me since its so light weight and has so much storage!!
  • Robert Lopez
HP dx2250 Desktop; and i love it, somewhat. it does what i need it to do and plus i can play some online games (not the heavy graphics one)

The pros for this is that its black, so it matches pretty much all the device i own. i upgraded the ram, so its more enjoyable now. it has so many usb slots!

the cons: wish it was able to support halo, diablo, etc. lol i wanna start gaming! it freezes on me about once a month, nothing out of the norm, and its running windows XP, not vista! yay!

Currently using a Dell XPS M1710.

Pros: very nice graphics card, has a very sharp display, and the keyboard is really nice
Cons: Processor could be faster, heavy as hell, and gets hot near the touch pad (very irritating! sweaty palms!!)
  • Nathan
Mac mini, Samsung SyncMaster 710N screen, labtec mouse, mac keyboard (the one before the flat keyboard). Dual booting with Linux Mint.

    Pros: Fast!, Silent, Powerful.
Cons: Price, Hard to self upgrade, Pricey Software.

Love how easy it is to dual boot linux.
  • Mikayla
Sony VAIO CR510E--medium priced laptop, and just a 14inch screen!

Pros: Lightweight for its price range, able to do a lot of multi-tasking for its processor speed, can play music back fairly well.
Cons: about 9 months of use the battery is about to be replaced SUCKS!, keyboard is flimsy, the construction of the laptop isnt the greatest i wouldnt leave it on overnight haha
  • Dianna
Samsung nb205 i got for my birthday. its really nice and small but could be better.

    pros;
    - very portable
    - comes in so many colors, i wanted 1 in each color lol
    - fast with an excellent battery life

    cons;
    - not a fan of the hinge, i wouldnt swing it too fast
    - gets really warm after just 2 hrs of use (minimal use, too!)
    - bootup time is slow.
  • Kristen
I have the HP Pavilion s5100z, i just got it a few months ago and i love it.

pro; very very cheap! monster when it comes to ram. storage is inasne

con; streaming videos is laggish but might be my connection, can;t really think of anything else!
  • Grace
hp pavilion a645c; when it bought it 4 years ago it was pretty much a top of the line computer (i think). love the amd athlon processor. heh

pro; still able to play games, but not the best at it. burns dvd and cds. integrated media card readers

cons; only 200gb of space, sucks in air like a kid with asthma, and the video card is weak but at the time it was nice

thanks for hosting such an awesome giveaway.
  • Amanda
I have a Dell Studio 1536 with an AMD processor.

It's my first laptop. It works for me as a basic computer.

It gets hot, so hot it's shut itself down.
The hinges are broken and it's not quite a year old.
The speakers are not loud enough.

    The screen is nice.
I like the card reader, makes it easy to load pics.
    It's a laptop, I always wanted one. :)
  • Chad
LOL don't laugh but my computer's like 8 years old. Compaq Presario 5102US Desktop. Has a super 40GB harddrive! yay! :(

Pros: its still clean and white, blue/questionable purple casing, windows ME (not really a pro, but easy to use)

Cons: doesn't do much but browse the web, loud as hell, freezes by the hour.

I'm desperately in the need of a new computer, and if I win this one, I would be ever-so grateful. I'm a college student so in return, i could spread the word really quick about the website! ;)
  • Carlos H.
I have a Gateway 838gm. Looks really antique, but i can do daily stuff. I mainly use this for my music storage and pictures--ms word too.

cons: sucks at videos because the flash doesnt work (youtube), does not get along well with usb flash drives (tends to freeze for a bit, then recognize it), and the dvd drive is stuck.

pros: can listen to music, does charge my ipod really well (lol) and i can browse the web relatively easy.

its starting to heat up (is that weird for a desktop?)
  • Jonathan G---
representing the emachines! hahah ET1810; it sucks. Not gonna lie. At the time of purchase it was nice and quick but that didnt last long. Its so slow, so quick.

pros; super cheap. white. clean tower setup.
cons; does not last long (by that i mean it gets slow real quick), sucks in a lot of air so already ive cleaned the inside of it 2 times already (never had to do that with any other computer), and it doesnt handle video (steaming video too) very well.

its cheap. thats the only reason i purchased it. kinda regretting it, but meh. if I get the Envy15, OOOH MAN I will BURN this and record it. LOL
  • Juan Luna
an acer laptop. bought it the day after thanksgiving. waited in line for a peice of crap laptop.

pros-- the laptop was good for the first three months, very fast at the time of purchase, and i really liked the screen size.

cons-- the screen broke! it wouldnt turn on one day, and i was still under the manufacture warranty but they suck. and the amount of ram, wish it came with more.

bad experience with acer. not sure if I will ever get another one. HP, here I come!
  • Sean
Sony VAIO NW130; very sleek looking and techy. keep in mind this is my first laptop.

pros; dual core processor, more than enough ram, beefy harddrive.

cons; the place where you rest your palm gets really warm real quick (about 30mins or so after use, even if you;re just watching videos), i have to keep it plugged in because the battery isnt so great (dont know when it will randomly turn off), and the touch pad isnt as sensitive as I'd like it to be.

over all its a good beginner laptop, my very first one. i dont have much to compare it to except for the ones my friends own.
  • Mikey
Toshiba Satellite-not sure on the model number since i ripped off the sticker. but i purchased it in 2006.
    1. AMAZING SPEAKERS. For a laptop, it blew me away.
    2. Surprisingly its running after a few drops, so durability!
    3. I can play games on it without much trouble--not Halo or anything, low-graphic-intense games.
    cons
    1. The top half of it is shakey which means the monitor could give out any minute now. lol but its a beast for holding together all these years.
    2. could use more ram, but it might be that its almost dieing.
    3. heats up, really bad

I hate how its 9lbs. hahah but love it for being so durable and savage
  • Justine
I'm using an HP Pavilion Desktop :D

    Top 3 Pros:
    Widescreen
    Fast Quad Processor
    Quiet!

    Cons:
NOT a laptop :( (need one!)
    Vista
    Only one drive

I don't hate anything in particular about it, it's a pretty decent desktop for being store bought! I love that it's very quiet and quite powerful :)
  • ELAINE
I have a dell latitude It freezes up alot and is NOWAY NEAR powerful enough to do much of anything! at least I dont have to worry about my son stealing it, He justs scoffs at it, there is noway it could play his games!
  • Rebekah Bosley
    I have an HP TX2000z
Pro: 1) its a tablet! 2)works, does the job (for the most part) 3)quality
Cons: 1) gets reallly hurt. almost scolding. 2) weak battery 3)expensive. multi-tasking isnt the best but i try to keep it to just 3 things open

I feel really geeky with this, i love it. but hate that it burns.
  • Marc
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? Dell Inspiron 9300
What are the top three pros and cons of it? Pros: 17" screen, Portable/Laptop, PC Cons: Age, Older technology, time to turn on. Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it? Love that within a week Windows 7 and new computer on the way!
  • Elkaye
I don't have a laptop, but the desktop I was using is a Presario 7000.

    Pros:
-It was the first computer I bought
-It was stylish back in the day
    -Easy to upgrade parts

    Cons:
    -It's broken :(
-I don't know how to fix it

  • Stephen
    Dell Inspirion E1505

    PROS:
Basic and efficient (when i first had it)
has a DVD/CD burner thats decent
    good screen space

    CONS:
Extremely hot--never will i put it on my lap again.
Battery is about to give up on me.
    Bulky

I have to love it for now since its the only thing I have. i'd like to hate it, really.
  • ELAINE
I know NOTHING about computers, where do we start? How about what to do when the computer freezes up?
  • Stephen
    Compaq Presario CQ60-420US

    PRO:
    Cheap
    Perfect screen size
    Worked for the first month

    CON:
All of a sudden does not boot up
Tech support is really a hassle with this computer
about to smash it because of all the stress.

Hate it. I really need to win this laptop, but either way, I'm looking to get a new one. :(
  • Greg Smith
eMachines T1115 Desktop--go ahead, laugh. Super old computer, probably one of the first to come out with a 1ghz processor.

Pro; Still able to open notepad with out lag, still able to turn it on, still able to browse the web (very lightly though)

Con; does not do much besides the above state, louder than a fighter jet, lags like crazy if you even think about multi-tasking.

Its embarrassing because its so chunky. lol i hate it.
  • Philip
HP Mini 110--my first computer purchase and decided to go minimal with a netbook.

Pros: goes everywhere with me, is able to store more than you could imagine, does a lot of processing that you would not expect from a little thing like this (music and video playback, little gaming here and there with flash/java apps, etc.)

Cons: starting to heat up but not a big deal right now, maybe its me but the battery is starting to decrease after 3 months of usage, could be a little thinner like other models out there but not a biggy.

    I like its compact-ness. :)
  • Sasha
I'm currently sharing a laptop with my brother. We're using an HP G60 series. It was on sale when we purchased it and its has all the bells and whistles.

    PRO:
1 HDMI output so we could hook it up to our TV
    2 Big harddrive
    3 Very nice processor

    CON:
1 The palm-rest area is starting to become warm after use, which is just an inconvenience.
    2. Glitchy wifi, it goes on and off. Might be our network but i doubt it.
    3. cant think of anything else.

So far its going really well for us. I'd just like to have my own so I don't have to share with him.
  • Miguel
Bought a netbook about a month and half ago, and so far I LOVE it. Bought the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA.

    PRO:
    Slim and portable
    Really nice battery life
LED screen is amazing. Nice contrast

    CON:
Power cable is crap. Needs improvement
Online support page is a maze itself.
Thats all I can think of.

Its great for how much I paid for it. About 300 at bestbuy. Really sleek and slim thats the main feature i love about it
  • Henry
My PC: HP Pavilion 645c. Its really old, but reliable.

    Pros:
    1. AMD Processor is reliable in most scenarios.
    2. Upgraded the RAM on this PC and not so much lag any more
    3. Decent harddrive space.

    Con:
    1. DVD drive doesnt open anymore so I can't utilize it.
    2. The blue light where you turn it on, SUPER BRIGHT! Blinding almost, but its kinda cool when you're not trying to sleep.
    3. When it sleeps, and you wake it up--sooo much lag. Everything is 5-8x slower, AT LEAST. Very annoying.

Overall, its been with me for about 5 years and I can't complain much about it because it has been able to turn on and use--just gets annoying when it lags or freezes randomly. but then again, what piece of technology doesn't.
  • Jill Hayes
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

I'm using a Sony Vaio FW200 or I was until it died...now it's in the shop so I'm using my son's old Gateway computer and the three pors and cons of it are no sound, can't get new drivers installed, DVD Drive doesn't open anymore, and it's SLOW

Pros, how about none, none and none

I hate that it's slow and unreliable.
  • Mishia
I have a Toshiba Satellite. I hate that the fan is loud, it over heats and the sound rarely works. I like it because it is fairly reliable.
  • Sushrukh
I'm using an Intel Q6600 machine.I love that it's fast,it has good sound system & good airflow.I hate the graphics system i have,i hate it because it's too loud & i hate that i am only using a stock cooler.
  • Andrew Yee
I'm using a custom made desktop computer, i'm not sure what model is it. Pros- its my computer, Cons- its kinda slow and old. I love it because its the only computer i have haha
  • Matt Somers
I hate how noisy and un-portable my computer is.

I love that I have one and can stay connected!
  • Seoung-Koo Yi
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
    Winbook W235

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
    Pros
    Big screen
    Usable Keyboard
    Travel weight

    Cons
    Loud Fan
    Slow
    Short Battery life

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
I hate the fact that the fan won't stay silent despite application of arctic silver and regular cleaning.
  • Anita A.
I am presently using an HPzd7001us laptop. It is 17" and it's heavy! It's great when it's in its docking station (pro), but it is not something you want to lug around with you when you travel (con). It's got tons of peripheral inputs (pro), but it can overheat (a known defect) (con). It's got a nice big screen (pro), but the battery life is short (con). I love it because it is still working 5+ years after purchase (that's a long life for a laptop!). :-)
  • Jonathan Ellis
    Lenovo T500

    Pros:
    Keyboard
    Linux compatibility
    Trackpoint

    Cons:
    Low res screen
    Intel graphics
    Quiet speakers

Particular hate: can't drive my 30" monitor
  • R Hicks
    I am using a Dell Dimension 2400.

    Pros

    1. robust computer, ie. no hardware problems
    2. low cost computer
    3. it gets the job done, but slowly

    Cons

    1. aging quickly
    2. not expandable very much
    3. have the occasional lock up.
  • Andrew
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using?
    Compaq Presario R3440

    Pros:
My old work paid for it and didn't want it back when I left
    Huge display
Did I mention it was FREE?

    Cons:
    Weighs about 30 kilos
The keyboard sticks because my boss spilled Pepsi on it
Running on half the RAM because one card died and I can't replace it so it is sloooooooooooooow!

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?:
Let's just say I love to hate it...

Please, please, please set me free from this prehistoric laptop!
  • susan smoaks
my current computer is a gateway from 2003. It's really old.

    it's slow, it's out dated, it's old

pros are it's mine, it works, it has a ton of music on it.
  • William
    HP ZV5000

    Pros:
    Great Screen.
Battery Life is ok considering how old it is.
Speakers are good. For a laptop.

    Cons:
    Very poor graphics card.
    Heavy.
    No Linux Compatibly.
  • terry o
I own a Toshiba 17" notebook purchased from Walmart for $399. pros... 17" monitor 3 gig's ram dvd dl writer.
cons... very short battery life, slow processor, poor sound.. I need better sound as I use it make presentations for work. Unfortunately in the end you get what you pay for....
  • lisa
I like the OS; vista, it has grown on me.

I hate that my computer has serous hardware issues that cannot be fixed. My computer simply won't communicate with my printer, or any other added program.
  • Kim
I would love to win because I hate sharing my computer with husband.
  • Kim
I would use this HP Envy 15 for work and enter sweepstakes just like this awesome one. @notebookscom @hpcheer #Envy15NB Thanks.
  • My main machine is a HP Pavilion p6110f, It is so fast and smooth with a 6gb memory and 680gb hard drive. The only problem is that it is 64-bit, and I have some compatibility issues.
I also have an Acer Netbook, only complaint with that is no dvd drive, I love that it fits in a large purse.
  • Penny F.
What do I love about my computer, not much but I do have my favorite photo editing program on it so that's good! I hate the age of it and knowing that the hard drive will have to be replaced, again...soon. It's servered me well but it's time is almost over.
  • mikes
Currently, I'm on a Dell Vostro 200, but its my work computer. My personal laptop is a Gateway MX3070, and its just plain old... celeron mobile 370, 1gb ram, 15" running XP home.

Pros 1 - durable, its over 3 years old and none the worse for wear even though I log at least a few hours a day on it.
Pros 2 - it didn't come preloaded with tons and tons of crap software and bloatware
Pros 3 - even after 3 years, I'm on my original battery and still get over 2 hours of watching a DVD in the drive with the brightness all the way up.

Cons 1 - I hate that it doesn't have a number pad on the keyboard, though you usually need a 17" screen to have one, there are a few 15s that do.
Cons 2 - the wireless card isn't the best, it has limited range and drops the connection occasionally
Cons 3 - its just plain slow. the celery 370 can't keep up with modern apps so I relagated it to email and web for the most part and some web pages with lots of flash or java slow it to a crawl.

Thanks for the contest, I'd love to have this beast!
  • Angela Harrell
Using a dell that is old, old, old. If you move the screen it will go off and not come back on til it is cool.
Ridiculous way to live. Hope I win a new one!
  • Jim Jensen
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

Assembled @ Home; Asus GeneII w/i920. Antec 300 case.

Pro's; fast, reliable, fun to build.

Con's; heavy, heavy, did I mention heavy?

My PC makes a lousy laptop. I'm tired of lugging it around.
  • Diane
    i use a macbook

    pros:

    -no virus
    -fast
    -cute

    cons
    -some windows app dont run
    -seems to break easily
-everyones whos a windows been dissing it
  • Jeane
I have a Dell Inspiron but it is heavy. I am also into scraping and have it loaded down with files. And I have too small a screen. Then along come grandkids who want to "play" with grandma on the computer. Would love to have a dedicated laptop for just my hobby and designs, with a larger screen. That would free up the old one for "dedicated" homework assignments! :)
  • Karissa
I love my computer simply b/c it is my first laptop. I love the freedom!

but I hate that it is refurbished, and not the backlight is going out and there is a cable loose. I was quoted $200 just for labor and no promises it will be fixed. blech!
  • Jennifer B.
I hate the way that my computer will lock up when it gets to some webpage with a complicated script. I must need more RAM or something.
  • Tracy W.
I hate the fact that I cannot move my laptop to my lap! Every time I try, the darn thing freezes up. Yeah, I need a new one.
  • Derek Johnson
I have a HP Pavillion DV6419. I like my laptop for its portability, ease of use, and the attached webcam. However, its an older computer and the battery doesnt last long anymore, I have already had to replace the charging power cord, and the screen is starting to get fuzzy at the bottom.
  • Angela P.
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

    Dell PC running windows XP

    pros are
it functions properly and is easy to navigate.

    cons are
    it is not a laptop
is quite bulky and not a space saver
also it doesn't have the new windows operating system so not every thing works on it.
it has an old monitor from years attached so the picture isn't as clear as a new computer.

Really would like to win the HP envy Laptop
  • Kurt
I use an HP Pavillion DV6000 now. The only good thing about it is that the thing still runs. The screen went out a few months ago and I have it hooked up to an old CRT. Tried fixing it with 2 different inverters but it turns out the LCD itself is compromised. It's underpowered, cheaply made, and tends to sort of give up in a fit of mechanical depression if you ask too much of it.
  • Angela K
My current computer is a Lenovo T60 with the 15" screen (Model 2623-D3U). Regarding laptops/notebooks, I've only ever owned Lenovo/IBM Thinkpads and can say that they are high-quality machines. (Though I am NOT opposed to owning the beautiful HP Envy 15 - would be so helpful right now).

    Pros:
    - Great 15" screen with beautiful resolution. Brighter than any other Lenovo laptop I've used.
    - Durable case & chassis.
    - Lenovo customer service is top-notch - repairs under warranty are done very quickly & so far I've never had any complaints with their repairs.
    - Sleek, professional look.
    - Keyboard feels great - very nice to type on.

    Cons:
    - Very short battery life.
    - Heavy & runs REALLY warm. So much that I'm considering some kind of additional cooling mechanism.
    - Poor speakers. I'm having some problems with interference from the microphone (which is actually supposed to be *off* but still is picked up by the speakers somehow).

(I am BountyHunter338 on Twitter & entered via the Twitter methods as well)
  • Jason
I have a ASUS W3J-H026P that's about three years old now. I love its design (I honestly think it's one of the best-looking laptops I've ever seen), power, and convenient modular bay which can accommodate an optical drive, extra battery, or extra hard drive. The downsides are that because it's a discontinued model ASUS no longer puts out drivers for it (all the media buttons, etc. will stop being useful when I get Windows 7), it's a pain in the neck to disassemble when I need to repair something, and of course that it's getting a little old and I'm envious (ha!) of all those nice new notebooks out there--like the Envy 15 :)
  • Well I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 I got it many years ago.. At it's time it was freakin' awesome. Right now the fan is loud (doesn't always work), it's missing 3 keys.. the battery holds NO charge (and won't charge anymore) it must always be plugged in, needs to the date put in the BIOS every time I turn it on. The track ball in the middle lost its rubber cap so it is over sensitive and I click in the middle of my sentences while typing. Other than that it is still a nice little internet browsing tool. It's better than NO laptop.
  • kareljack
I currently own a second hand HP dv8000 laptop. It was a hand me down from a friend but it is filling a void quite nicely.

    PROS -
1.HP makes some sweet laptops. The previous owner beat the hell out of it, but she is still running with no serious hardware issues.
2.It runs Win 7 RC on a single core processor with 1 gig of RAM. It's not a speed demon, but I can get work done.
    3. The hardware itself is well designed and laid out. USB and other expansion/connection ports are easily accessible.

    Cons -
1.The laptop is at least 4 yrs old and only a 1.7ghz single core processor. It's a bit maddening when encoding/transcoding video

2.The battery life is not spectacular, but I removed it and keep the laptop plugged in.

3.The system can only physically take two gigs of RAM and it's the now hard to find and ridiculously expensive PC-3200/DDR 400. For the stuff I am doing now and plan to do, I really need more and faster RAM. I am helping my friend with his dream/business venture and I fear my aging system is holding us back.
  • Susan
I am currently using a Sony Vaio for a laptop - I love that I can take the laptop to meetings and don't have to lug around my desktop, but the battery keeps slipping just enough to shut down the computer- usually when I am in the middle of updating a spreadsheet- YUCK. Also, the graphics are really old and outdated, so all websites I go to using the Vaio don't fit and I have to scroll up and down to read content.
  • I love my pc. Self built Core2duo system. Pc is not the problem. Its the sharing the machine with 4 others in the family. Kids and wife are on it all the time!
They'd do with a simple system, i want the power!
And since we live in a small house, space is valuble. Laptop would be cool, but most of m dont have enough power.
  • System conf: Core2Duo 6600, 4 gb, 1.2 Tb, evga 7900 GS. Like i said, its self built.
Pro: Fast enough, space enough, pretty quiet.
Con: Big and not movable, Windows Vista, getting a bit low on power (processor).
  • Lance
I use a Dell Latitude D820... Really old. I do like the high res screen (1600 x 1200) but it is getting pretty slow with the limited memory available.
  • Robb
I'm currently using a Gateway T-6836. I love that it has 4gb of RAM and Vista 64-bit to handle all of that crunching power. It was also real cheap (like $600) when I bought it last year. However, it's certainly no powerhouse like the Envy 15! Even after removing all the bloatware that came with it it still doesn't rock like I need it to. I run Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash pretty regularly and they always seem to be dogging it.
  • Leland
I am using a Dell XPS M1530. The Pros are that it has 4 gb or RAM, it looked good when it came out 2 years ago, and it handles my daily use ok. The cons are that it doesnt have the power to do things like gaming and video editing, it only has vista 32 bit so that 4 gb of ram is under utilized and that i have had to reinstall Vista on it losing all of my old data! I loved it when I first got it but time has been cruel on it.
  • Brian E.
Currently use an iMac (iMac4,1 Intel Core Duo).

Pro- big display, dependable, great performance i.e. speed

Con- it is a desktop, so I am tethered to a desk at the moment while I save up to replace an old laptop that recently bit the dust.

I love that it is a versatile platform i.e. runs both Windows and MAC OS on the same computer.
  • Ryan M
I love that I actually have a laptop to use at college.

I hate that it is five years old and over heats constantly and also is incredible loud in class.
  • Rick Nguyen
I have a custom built desktop

    Pros:
    1) lighting fast
    2) Amazing gaming computer
    3) Great for multitasking

    Cons:
    1) Not portable
    2) Very loud with the fans going
    3) Takes up too much space
  • Ryan Ma
Haha, just saw that there's another Ryan M right above me but different person for sure.

I'm currently using an old desktop. It has a great graphics card and processor and runs without problems. A con is that it does not have enough ram, it came with only 1gb. 2 more cons are that it's not portable, if it was portable i'd be able to use it more freely and in more places, also it has a small monitor.
I love that the graphics and processor allows for fluid gaming but i really hate it when the lack of ram freezes causes my programs to freeze up.
  • Steve V
I have a HP Pavilion - pros: bright screen (replaced), large screen, decent (100 GB) size hard drive. Cons: slow, five years old, not enough RAM and RAM is expensive compared with newer.
  • Daniel Bates

We have a Toshiba satellite laptop and a year ago the screen died so the laptop is actually hooked up to a dell monitor. See why I need one? But if I were so lucky to win this, Id still give it to my son who help me financially while I was unemployed for a year.
  • muhadi
I am using HP pavilion three years old machine, it's a great machine but the battery doesn't last that long and the screen started to yellow a bit. and the best thing about it it's never let me down when i most wanted it.
  • Kimberly Kelly-Sydow
I am using a MacBook Pro. The top three pros are: it has yet to crash on me, the updates only come once in a while and don't take long to do, and it is fast to load pages. The top three cons are: it is over a year old, the keys stick easily, some programs are not compatible.

I love that it is easy to use. I don't really hate anything about it.
  • Jack Tiernan
I'm using a Macbook Pro. The best parts about are the build quality, mac sox, and it looks pretty. The worst parts are that it is underpowered, cant play games, and was expensive. The thing like most about it is the build quality.
  • I hate that some of the buttons on my Dell do not function and slow performance. I like it because it's portable and convenience for me.
  • Roman
    I'm actually using a Dell XPS M1530.
    Pros:
    i) Slim

    Cons)
    i) Design is good but I think it could be very improved

And what I really hate is that sometimes it transmit static through palm rest that feels like very very small electric shocks
  • sewbird

  • Dez
I hate the fact that my Desktop has only 1.5GB ram, and isnt 64bit

  • Christine
Okay...I have so many random pieces of computer it's hard to tell what the make and model is...but it started out a Dell.

    Pros: It works (so far)
The new monitor has a large screen
    It's semi-portable

    Cons: (Don't get me started...)
    Too many odd pieces
    Memory??? What's that?
No bells or whistles/old outdated software

    Need I say more?

    I have a HP pavilion DV6500 laptop

    PROS:

    2. Its an OK looking laptop
    3. Has nice media controls

    CONS:
    1. Battery Doesn't hold a charge

The thing i hate the most is that i cant take it anywhere that i cant plug in because the battery sucks.
  • Kurt Ricketts
I currently use an HP Compaq nx6325. This laptop has served me well for a few years as it is reliable, portable, and has all of the ports I need to connect all of my external devices. Cons of this laptop are its lack of HDMI, a low-end video card, and a slower processor that limits my capability to multi-task as efficiently as I would like.

While there isn't anything in particular that I hate about my laptop, I love the fact that it has served me well for so long and I know I can rely on it working when I need it to.

What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? Dell D830

What are the top three pros and cons of it?

    Pro: Has a serial port
Pro: Has a 7200 RPM hard drive
Con: Screen quality is just OK
    Con: Has become bloated
    Con: Came with Dell crapware

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
It has been a very reliable laptop. It rarely crashes (Windows XP Pro). It starts up amazingly fast considering it's become bloated.
  • Terry Sutton
What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? I am using a Gateway Desktop.

What are the top three pros and cons of it?
Pros: It's convenient with the keyboard.
It's almost new, so still works. It helps me win Sweepstakes.
    Cons: It freezes up sometimes.
    It sometimes freezes up.
    It is out of warranty.

Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?
No, this is just a so-so computer. I do like having it as opposed to having to go to the library to use theirs.
  • L.D.
The thing that I hate the most about my computer is that it is slow. It also does not have a very good video card so I cannot play my new games on it without it freezing up. The r key broke off which is a pain. If it were the z it wouldn't be so bad. But there are a lot of r's when you have to type.

I like the fact that my 4 yr old desktop has gone the distance and is easily upgradable. I hate that it's so big and bulky and sloooow.
  • diane sterman
I have loved my toshiba laptop it was cutting edge and way ahead of the pack. However, it is big, 17 inches, 9.9 lbs and I do not want to get a large laptop again. At home I use an external keyboard and monitor.

I have loved all my computers. I wear 'm out.

I'm using a Dell Vostro laptop - it's a basic model and quit slow. I need something faster.
  • Jacob
My current computer is an HP Desktop. I like that it still works great after 6 years. But because it is a desktop I can't take it anywhere...even in the living room
  • Jerad H
I currently use a home-brew desktop system as my primary PC, and I have an HP tc4200 tablet PC as my secondary PC. The tc4200 is used primarily by my wife in the living room. It's old, slow, and runs XP (3 cons), but I love the size, the original battery life (4-5 hours), and the tablet functions (3 pros). I think the form factor of the tc4200 (12.1" screen and convertible-style tablet) is great providing that it's used in an environment that supports it. I'm really looking forward to Windows 7's touch features.

If I won the HP Envy 15, it would become my portable photography computer, allowing me to view and edit my pics while I'm on the road. It's an awesome computer and is appropriately named.

I'm using a hand-me-down from my DD. It's OK, but it's pretty old and I'm sure I'm on borrowed time
  • Winston
Right now I am using Gateway 7330GZ that I bought five years ago.
    Pros:
    Portability
    Durability
The screen doesn't hurt my eyes as much as other computers

    Cons:
Still slow after 1GB Ram upgrade. Before that, it lagged really really bad
    Ugly designs.
    Poor hard drive memory

What I really love about this computer is it's durability. Over the years, it went through lot of physical abuse that it is quite amazing to me it still works, albeit slow.

My computer is a desktop I built.
I love the speed and reliability and my 23" display.
But I hate that I can't take it around with me and take notes in class.

I would love to have an HP Envy 15 for class work and portable computing :)

  • What kind of computer (make and model) are you currently using? What are the top three pros and cons of it? Is there anything in particular that you love/hate about it?

Im using a Pentium 4 desktop:

    Pros:
    Energy efficient.
    Low on electricity.

    Easy to maintain.

    Very slow.
    Can't do what i want.
    Very old.
    Needs some repair.

I'm using an HP nx9030 laptop
    Pros:
-Gets me by in college,(i.e. word doc, web, media)
    -Fast start up/web browsing.
-Surprisingly runs smoothly and efficiently after all these years.

    Cons:
-Pretty heavy, not a good mobile laptop.
-Battery life is poor, roughly 1hr at best on the most basic settings.
-Small hard-drive, I can't store my music on the computer without drastically slowing it down.
-Battery gets hot and fan gets loud when unplugged

All in all, considering my computer is 3-4yrs old, I love that fact that it still runs as smoothly as it does. Besides the cons I have already listed, I hate the fact that it doesn't have a webcam; but then again at the time my computer was made webcams weren't as common as they are now days. In closing, I'm thankful to have the computer I have now for college, however I feel I need a more mobile friendly computer.

I am using a HP L2000 Livestrong edition. It is about 4 years and i am using it because my dad let me have it when my gateway computer bit the dust. The top 3 pros:
It has a 6 cell battery
    It is WideScreen
It is like 14.1 inch...so not to big

    The top 3 cons:
    It gets hecka Hot!
    The harddrive is loud loud
The graphics are slow slow....lags on video sometimes

The thing i love about this computer though is that i was able to put Windows 7 on it...and figure out all the drivers that were a pita. The thing i hate the most, is the cd tray randomly just pops open..when it feels like it!
  • Leo Xu
I am currently using an HP dv6000t. It is quite fast, it looks AMAZING, and it has quick launch buttons, which I really like. Unfortunately, the laptop has a huge scratch on the screen, it is covered in dirt, grime, dust, etc., and its graphics are really laggy. What I absolutely HATE about it is its super sucky Intel graphics card. I can't play ANY modern games!!!!
  • Lisa Troup
I have an acer aspire 3680 it is a great little workhorse with everything my 7 year old and I need and it was on special at the now defunct circuit city...The down side is it needs more Ram and I had to buy another hardrive for it but otherwise it was agreat choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • tazzbranch
I'm on an HP Pavilion dv6000. Pros: very versatile; loads of connectivity; nice design/aesthetics. Cons: everybody in the world has it or a version of it; while decently sturdy, it is mainly plastic and not immune to daily wear and tear; smudges, finger prints, dust, and pretty much everything shows on it. I love the expansion port that allows you to connect it to everything (ethernet, external speakers, extra monitor, printer, exteral HDD) including the power, through one cable. Also love that despite going on 4 yrs old (old for a laptop) is still up to snuff with what's currently being sold. I just wish it wasn't starting to fall apart physically on me.
