Naming the new GPUs the GTX 280M and 260M makes you think that they're based off the desktop GTX 200 Series, right? Not so much.
The GTX 280M is based on the G92 core, the same one in the 9800M GTX. More shaders, faster clocks, and a new manufacturing process, but still a 9 Series in all but name.

I understand that price is on everyone's mind in this economy, but there are a lot of power users that really do want/need all the performance money can buy.

As Rene mentions, there are plenty of affordable products on the horizon in the netbook/notebook market, including ION.

Sounds great. However, this kind of high performance GPUs makes the price of laptops go higher.
