There’s an OD in the same shopping center as Best Buy near me. If I don’t get a voucher from BB I might try here.
Very little info about this model. I think it’s a Compaqu (bought by HP) so it’s could be an older discontinued model. no info on DVD/CD drive.
It’s the 1st I’ve heard of the rebate. That sours the deal as much as having VISTA.
Anyone thought of selling coffee/hand warmers to the line waiting overnight at the stores?

I actually went into O. Depot to see this model. It’s made by HP and marketed by O. Depot. It’s a model in between the HP Pavilion G50-110 and the HP Pavilion G50-113. I’ve bought on Ubid an eBay and elsewhere HP models with numbers with letter designations that are not found on the HP website. This model is exactly what it says, plus there’s an additional $15.00 coupon in the ad. That makes it a $334 HP laptop w/ 3GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard drive and an Intel Dual Core T3200 processor and obviously also a DVD+/-RW SuperMulti with Double Layer Drive. The only better deal you can find is by fishing on eBay. You can use Paypal’s 10% off coupon on eBay right now PLUS, there’s also a 25% off ‘Live Search cashback’ deal by signing up with http://search.live.com/cashback and use ‘Buy it Now’. That’s 35% off all ‘Buy it Now’ computers on eBay. The eBay 10% off coupon which is CHOLIDAYNOV2008.

Just curious to know if this notebook is in limited supply at office depot as Best buy is???

  4. Sean says:

Sarah: The store I went to, I spoke to the GM there. I’ve known him for about 10 years and he’s very honest. He told me that his store has 12 of them. I know I will be buying one for myself. Good luck!

  5. Emily says:

Does anyone know what time the store opens?

  6. Dale says:

Office Depot opens at 6:00am, thats what their website says.

  7. Shawn says:

Does anyone know where you can get more detailed specs on this model? Vista version, screen type, external connections, etc?

  8. Xavier says:

Shawn- I’ve added more specs here for you.

  9. KEVIN says:

WERE ARE THE ADDED SPECS XAVIER IS TALKING ABOUT

  10. Xavier says:

Sorry guys- had a broken table. Will have it back up in a couple of minutes.

    Thanks

  11. Bethany says:

    Xavier,

Under ports/extras you list a webcam. Do you mean that the notebook has a built-in webcam, or that it has a “dedicated” port for one? TIA.

  12. Xavier says:

Bethany- there’s no webcam unfortunately on this notebook.

  13. Sally says:

DOes this Notebook have a cam/ mic built in??

  14. Jen says:

It reads and writes DVD and CD?

  15. Jeremy says:

    Sean
How does the 25% off work at Live Search? I can’t find any info on it at ebay or Live Search.
    Thanks

  16. Ed says:

Can someone help me with processors? I currently have couple year old laptop with a core 2 duo T5500 (1.66 GHz) is this pentium dual core a better processor and what is more important, the GHz or the type of processor core 2 duo vs. dual core? Thanks

  17. Bethany says:

Oh, I just thought I would also mention- on the tags for the laptops (the ones that say “Take this to the register to purchase”) it says that they have an HDMI port.

  18. Jimmy says:

So whats the way to get a laptop? I can see waiting in line for hours. then? say you are one of the first people in the store, Do you run to the Computer area and get the Laptop or do you go to a employee in the computer area and get a Card for the Laptop? Iv never done anything like this.

  19. tony says:

would this be a good computer for graduate school student

  20. Xavier says:

tony- this is a pretty basic computer. It’ll do just fine with web, email, photos, office, etc. which is what most grad students need. However if you’re a technical grad student that runs CAD or other graphics-intensive applications you might want to look elsewhere.
I typically recommend smaller notebooks for students if you have to lug it from class to class. That being said- this is an excellent value.

  21. Gina says:

My same question……..I’ve never tried to purchase something like this before. Do I just go stand in line and run for the computer department at Office Depot or do they hand out vouchers in line? Is this typically safe to do?

    thanks

  22. Avi says:

BF ADBUSTERS - yes, wait in line, knowing the doorbuster limited quantity deals will be in high demand. Prior to opening (20mins to an hour~est), Most stores will give vouchers to each person (1 per item) until they are gone. eg. if you are #25 in line, and they have 20 of an item, you better hope at least 5 earlier people do NOT ask for that voucher.

At best Buy, it tends to be a racket for the computer deals - early ppl get vouchers for EVERYTHING, and maybe sell the tickets to ppl who didnt wait the necessary 15-24hrs to be in the first 10-20 people. - against the rules, but hey, makes it worth their time. just a bummer for the naive people who waited all night for the one thing the greedy people in front snapped up for profit.

I believe walmart, circuit city, office depot all do this voucher process, but our local raido shack does not — its run and grab!

  23. Simalo says:

If you don’t see a promotional display at the store don’t ask for it. You’re gonna look like a fool on ZuneTV. Totally Bogus!!!!!

  24. tony says:

does this computer read and write cd’s….i’ve been told that this computer is a good buy but also very slow…any truth to it

  25. Bob says:

    Hi,
I spoke with the manager of my local OD last night. He said that they do not use the voucher system. The Laptops are kept in the back of the store and you need to ask a salesperson for the one you want and they will get it for you. He said that they have 12 of them.

  26. miranda says:

Where can I get the $15 off coupon?

  27. govind says:

    Is this model having Webcam????
& is it worth if i can purchase d same for $600???
