Notebooks.com’s HDX Contest Starts Now!

Notebooks.com is giving away an HP HDX Dragon as part of the biggest notebook giveaway ever. You can enter right now for your chance to win the ultimate entertainment notebook package, with a retail
value of over $5,100 (USD). Keep reading to learn how to win.

HP gave Notebooks.com and 30 other technology Web sites 31 HDX ‘Dragon’ notebooks to give away over 31 days. Each Web site has its own rules for winning, and the below rules are only valid to win Notebooks.com’s HDX.

This is a global contest and open to everyone as long as it’s legal in their city/state/country. The contest includes free shipping and the winner will receive a check to offset taxes. If the winner is from outside the U.S. duties will be covered.

update: here’s a video of the actual prize package we’re giving away. It shows how massive the HDX really is!

We want the HP HDX to go to a good home where it’ll be used to its full potential and to someone that could really use it. If you just need a basic notebook for email and Web surfing the HP HDX isn’t for you. If you can afford to buy one of these things on your own, please go and buy one from HP. If you can imagine the HP HDX changing your life or work for the better and consider yourself a tech enthusiast, then please read on.

We want to hear why you or your organization NEEDS this HDX and why you deserve it. Will you use the HDX to produce the next independent blockbuster, start your own business, or help your community? Are you a budding architect or engineer that will use that could use the HDX to run CAD? Do you aspire to be a pro gamer and pwn Fata1ity once you hone your FPS skills? Would having an awesome entertainment setup help entertain your military unit stationed overseas and help its members communicate with their loved ones back home?

We also want to give this notebook to someone who will become part of the Notebooks.com community and update us on how they’re using the HDX on a regular basis.
The contest is open now and a winner will be announced on Sunday (5/25/2008).

How to Enter

Today we’re launching Notebooks.com Forums, with the contest being its very first entry. To win you’ll need to register for Notebooks.com Forums and complete the following tasks by 3PM (PST) on May 23, 2008 :

1) Register for a Notebooks.com Forum and go to this thread. Reply to this post with your story about what you’ll do with the HP HDX if you win it. How will it change your life, or the lives of others you live or work with? Why do you deserve it?

Effort counts so be honest and be creative. Upload a video or send us a slideshow to illustrate your story. Feel free to link to your organization’s Web site. We want to hear substantial stories here- please no one-liners.

2) Tell your friends and family what you’re trying to win and have them comment on your entry and tell us more about why you deserve the HDX. Again, be creative and resourceful- ask your Facebook, MySpace, Hi5, Bebo etc. friends to check out your entry and comment. You need at least 5 replies to your entry to win.

3) Show us you’re a tech enthusiast, or at least eager to learn by starting at least five substantial, non-contest related threads at the brand new Notebooks.com Forums. Write substantial replies (at least 50 words) on at least 10 other threads. The more activity you have on the Notebook Forums, the more we’ll know you really want/need the HDX and that you won’t ditch Notebooks.com once we send you the computer ;-)

Rules

1) Only one entry per person. We’ve got fancy tracking software that can detect if you’re registering multiple times. We’re looking for quality, not quantity here.

2) Your story (Task #1) about why you deserve it and how you’ll use it will be weighted the most, but you cannot win without completing task #2 and #3. If you have no friends, try to make some or hope that someone else will comment on your entry

3) The winner will be selected by Notebooks.com and its decision will be final.

4) If we find your entry to be fraudulent we’ll delete it. If we get tricked into awarding the prize to someone who lied to get it we won’t ship you the prize and choose someone else that really deserves it.

5) The winner must agree to use the HP HDX for the purpose(s) stated in his/her contest entry and not sell it for at least two years.

6) Winner will be required to provide HP with his/her social security number and personal info for tax purposes BEFORE the HDX will be shipped (U.S. residents only).

7) If you win you must provide Notebooks.com with a valid street addresss (No P.O. Boxes), phone number and email address. The winner must agree to confirm his/her identity and anything/everything mentioned in his/her entry.

8) This contest is open to everyone, but it’s your responsibility to check your local laws and regulations. As much as I’d like my wife to win the HDX, Notebooks.com contributors, HP employees and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.

9) We reserve the right to adjust contest rules if anything goofy happens.

An old 12 inch Ibook laptop, which I got used, is the laptop I presently use, circa 2000. It is 366 megahertz with 192 megs of ram and a 10 gig hard drive. The battery died about 3 years ago, so its not really portable any more unless you take the power cord along :electrical tape on the end of the power cord. I have a 20 gig external harddrive. It is usb 1.0 and 2.0, however the Ibook is only usb 1.0, so transferring files takes forever. It doesn’t have a firewire port.
I currently use my Ibook to create a newsletter for a local artist group called “The Gathering Artists”.
I also use my Ibook to help me zoom in on detail while I do “watercolor portraits”.
I also surf the web with my Ibook.
As you may imagine, a 366mhz machine takes forever to do any of these tasks. I can run photoshop, but it is extremely slow. Youtube is very jerky.
So, as you see, I could really take advantage of the power of the HP Dragon. My son would also love it for the great games he would be able to play. Blu-Ray…Wow. Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor would bring me into the digital age with style.
My son says he will frag you all for free
if he could play “gears of war”.
Thanks

artwdog; You are not supposed to make that *post* here in comments but on the forum. Link has been posted by Xavier above.

Xavier; can you please remove the inviting 5 friends over and having them comment? :( I really don’t have friends that will join Tech forum. lol. They are not really into tech stuff like me.

@AHB/Joker- We’re going to keep the friends requirement in the contest. If you don’t have 5 friends that will join the forums, make your entry compelling enough for other visitors to reply to it. Thanks for your interest in the contest.

@AHB, the video or slideshow is not required, but you may include one if you feel your story needs visuals.
Please don’t email them to us. Instead, if you choose to photos/video/slideshow, link to them from with your entry.
