HP tx2000z Tablet is Here…What a Box!

tz2000zHP’s sent over a tx2000z for me to review. I really look forward to spending some quality time with this consumer Tablet PC, which Kevin Wentzel first showed us a few months ago, but I wanted to give thanks to whoever’s in charge of packaging the tx2000z.

I don’t like how the HP Pavilion notebook boxes look, but I fully appreciate how well the protect the goods inside.

I get several deliveries a week at my home office and a couple of the FedEx delivery guys in my neighborhood flat our suck at their jobs. Instead of ringing my doorbell and waiting 30 seconds for me to run downstairs they just throw packages over my seven-foot tall gate and onto my concrete stoop.

When I confront them about this, they apologize and make up some lame excuse about how they thought it was a book from Amazon, or how tossing behind the gate is considered a secure delivery.

On Friday I had some words with a FedEx guy who tossed a camera over the gate. He said it felt lightweight and he could tell there was bubble wrap, so he figured it was fine to handle a seven-foot drop. He also lied about ringing the doorbell. I guess these guys are on tight schedules, but I wish they’d take the time to take care of my deliveries.

On Monday I heard the distinctive thud of a package hitting my front door. I didn’t run downstairs fast enough to catch the FedEx guy and I kinda freaked out when I saw the package was the tx2000z from HP.

HP shipped this notebook in its normal retail box, whereas many other computer manufacturers ship their notebooks in a box inside a box. There were some scuffs on the box and I was worried there’d be something wrong with the tablet

I unpacked the tx2000z and was very pleased to find no obvious signs of damage. I booted it up and it ran perfectly fine. I’ve used it for about half a day and notice a slight squeaking noise coming from the palm rest when I type. I’m not sure if this is due to the drop.

The first project I’m going to do with the tx2000z is create a one-pager that explains the principal of gravity and proper operation of a doorbell. I’m going to post it on my front door so Mr. Lazy FedEx guy doesn’t have any excuses.

HP’s Pavilion boxes sure aren’t as pretty as Apple’s or some of its competitors, but now I know they do what they’re supposed to. I’m glad HP’s put together a package that can stand up to the hazards.
