Fujitsu Announces First 320GB 7200RM Notebook Drive

fujistu_320_7200rpmdrive.pngFujitsu announced the first 2.5-inch 320GB hard drive that spins at 7200RPM. This drive is built for users who need massive storage, but don’t want to sacrifice performance.

Fujitu’s previous 7200RPM notebook drives topped out at 160GB. The Fujitsu MHZ2 BJ will be available in 80, 120GB, 160GB, 250GB and 320GB versions.

“Users continue to demand increased HDD capacity and speed, and we are taking an impressive step in that direction by delivering the first 320GB 7200RPM mobile drives,” said Joel Hagberg, a Fujitsu vice president. “In addition, Fujitsu and its customers understand that each future generation of technology must have a smaller carbon footprint without sacrificing quality or performance. The MHZ2 series exemplifies Fujitsu’s dedication to technology innovation and energy efficiency.”

Availability and Hard Disk Drive Specifications:

The Fujitsu MHZ2 BJ hard disk drive series will start shipping in the second calendar quarter of 2008 with the following specifications:

* Capacity: 80/120/160/250/320GB
* Rotational Speed: 7200RPM
* Interface: SATA 3.0 Gb/sec and 1.5Gb/sec
* Read/Write Seek Time: 10.5/12.5msec (typ).
* Track to Track Seek Time: 1.5msec (typ).
* R/W Power Consumption: 2.3W (typ).
* Idle Power Consumption: 0.8W (typ). (Best-in-Class)
* Standby/Sleep Power Consumption: 0.13W (typ). (Best-in-Class)
* Acoustic (Idle): 2.5 bels (Best in Class)
* Operating Shock: 325G (2msec)
