HP Compaq 6720s and 6820s Small Business Notebooks

HP Compaq 6720sHP announced two budget business notebooks today for small businesses. The Compaq 6720s and 6820s are optimized for price and feature a silver lid, a deviation from the company’s standard dark-gray exteriors.

The 6720s comes with a 15.4-inc widescreen display. The 6820s has nearly identical specs and options, except it has a 17-inch widescreen display and a numeric keypad on the keyboard. The 6820s also has ATI Mobility Radeon X1350 dedicated graphics.

The new notebooks can be configured with an Intel Celeron or Core 2 Duo processor, up to 160 GB hard drive, and a DVD burner. The Celeron should only be selected if you plan on using the 6720s or 6820s for the most basic tasks. HP will offer up to a 2.4GHz, 4MB L2 cache Inel Core 2 Duo processor for power hungry users.

Both models have hard drive protection to protect against sudden movement and drops. HP also includes Protect Tools to secure your data.

There are a range of wireless options, including Bluetooth 2.o and 802.11n. There are no wireless broadband options for the 6720s or 6820s.

Ports, plugs and other extras are pretty basic on the 6720s and 620s. There’s an ExpressCard slot, SD card slot, three USB 2.0 ports and a VGA port. There’s also an Ethernet port, mic-in, headphone out and Kensington Lock slot.

The 6720s can be ordered with either a 55WHr or 47Whr 6-cell battery. The 6820s ships with a 55Whr 6-cell battery.

While the 6720s and 6820s can’t compete with HP’s more expensive business notebooks, they do offer a good value. The new silver lid also provides a bit of personality, without looking cheap or gimicky.

The answer to all the troubles is updating the BIOS.

I’ve just setup windows XP to HP Compaq 6820s and I solved the problems that toy guys have with bluetooth and USB. For the USB is simple, just don’t install the intel chipset drivers. For bluetooth you have to install this drivers http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=1847094&prodNameId=1847095&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-41446-1 and it’ll work fine

I had similar problems with HP Compaq 6820s The first problem was with Ethernet card(LAN driver). When i istalled all drivers for XP i haven’t internet connection. I updated the BIOS using this package sp37643.exe, from that site - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=ob-54942-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN )
IT WORKED PERFECTLY!!!.
The second problem was with my sound. I haven’t sound. First i install the update BIOS, then i install this driver: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3442856&prodNameId=3442857&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-58273-1

I recently updated BIOS of my compaq 6720s from version F.04
Release Date = 07/05/2007
Major version = 0xF, Minor Version = 0×01
to
version F.09
Release Date = 02/20/2008
Major version = 0xF, Minor Version = 0×09

HPQ flash software ran coreectly and I restart the machine. but now i get a error message as “Your BIOS failed to complete the update. Please ensure that you follow the correct procedures and try again. This may require two subsequential BIOS updates to complete the process.” But the setup shows (F10) BIOS as version F.09. and machine boots with above warning. Have any ideas?

Has anyone yet successfully installed a higher end graphics card into the HP 6820s with any lasting impact, given that the computer was not released until September. If so which card did your replace it with and was it MMX compatible? Do you have any idea how high we could go? I have the heat issue solved in connection with installing an X9000 CPU as it heats up the entire machine but I just cannot find anywhere what GPUs I can use and I have never upgraded a 6820 or even thoughg to update an ATI X1350 but I got a deal on this machine which I simple could not resist from another modifier who owed me a favor for on a CPU he was desperate for. Thanks a lot. Ozzie

Hello, i’m from the Netherlands, it sound stupid but i have lost my BIOS password of my HP6720s. Does anyone know how to reset the BIOS. Or know something else to fix this?

Many regards.

I’ve used my SonyEricsson P1’s memory stick to update the bios via USB, but i can no longer access the USB stick, it says it’s corrupt.
I can’t format it with the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, it just says There is no media in the specified device.

Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone fixed it?
