Gateway M-Series - Uninstall Vista and install XP? What a nightmare! Drivers for XP on Gateway M-Series? FORGET IT. Save yourself a headache. Don’t buy M-Series; resign yourself to VISTA and pony up the bucks for software upgrades if you already bought an M-Series. Gateway support is absolutely worthless on this subject - and trust me - you’ll spend days and days looking for correct XP drivers with NO LUCK WHATSOEVER. Buy a laptop with XP pre-loaded.

(Video card, sound, etc) I had the same prob as you guys when I tried to install XP. Sad…and is it normal that the screen shuts down just like that?
I was surfing and suddenly the screen became black and I couldn’t do anything except to press the start button for a while until the laptop shuts down and restart it.I hate when it does that! That’s why I decided to install XP, and now I can’t find the freaking drivers! anyway please someone answer me.thx!

Same issue here I have a t6321 with Vista, did a downgrade to XP and I couldn’t find a single driver. With all other laptop brands when you downgrade from Vista to XP, you are bound to find drivers for XP one way or the other.

Sadly this is not true with gateway, which is why the brand name is suffering, and won’t get much attention. Plus their website does not help and is lacking info. In fact I never heard of it until I got this laptop…I hate gate!

  12. zeeman says:

    after DAYS of trying the rivers i got all essential drivers to work with XP on T-6321;
chipset, video, LAN, WLAN, SMB bus, UAA driver for audio, audio, modem, webcam.

but, i cannot get those media buttons to work as “media access” drivers have yellow checkmarks next to them in device manager.

therefore, my screen brightness does not work under XP.
can anyone point me in right direction on how to get this fixed?

    thanks

    • Julio Zuart says:

Hey there, Your idea sounds amazing and I would LOVE to get involved in it!

Just let me know how can I help you out mate ^^

Also, is there a way the drivers you got will work for M-6816? If there is a possibility, how could I please get those drivers you found?

      Thanx in advance

  13. zeeman says:

    and…to add

all of the manufacturers nowadays have the same “screw you” attitude, it is not only gateway.
I heard horror stories abot Toshiba, Sony and many others.

they are all basically not giving you any support on XP drivers and they even tell you that warranty will be voided if you change OS. That means, you need to pay EXTRA $$ (usually hundreds) to buy a “business” series laptop and then some more EXTRA $$ for “downgrade CD”.
right… I like exposing my rear end to computer companies and Microsoft after my rear end was exposed to those who own the gas pumps.

now, what Pc vendors are doing is more than a total BB, more than a total blackmail that should not be tolerated. It is dictating us what is our choice. which in this case is NO CHOICE.
Well, the time has come to change that, and the time is NOW.

Those Pc vendors should be told to better get out of bed with Microsoft now because their sexual affairs will ruin their businesses in a long run. And, those smarter Vendors will begin to capitalize on stupidity of previous group. If a vendor A decides that I need to buy vista and vendor Z gives me an option of XP, Vista, win 2003 server – guess who is going to get my business?

So, what kind of BS is this that many vendors today do not want to even provide the drivers for any other OS than that one that is “approved” by Herr Bill Gates?
    see where I am going?

I am really hoping that people would get off their knees and raise the Hell with manufacturers about us being forced to buy crapware OS.

I plan to do this with Gateway as soon as I have all drivers working.
if you and I can prove that they (gateway and others) do not care about their customers (that would be us) and that non-vista drivers for their products do exist — then we can have the leverage on Pc/laptop manufacturers to straighten up their acts or else!

I am also thinking of starting a web site on which we can upload and download any driver and better yet any driver pack for a Pc/laptop and even different OS’s. That way people (that would be us) would work together in creating the driver packs that are tested and documented for each hardware model.
Say, all drivers for gateway T-6321 that you can download by clicking a single link for a small fee, say $ 20,00 per driver pack. but, that fee applies only to those who have not contributed any drivers.
conversely, we could give those contributors who test and create driver packs on their own systems enough credits to never pay a penny for any of the drivers, and maybe even pay them back for their efforts.
so, if you have time but no money – here is your chance to become famous and rich.
(or at least very popular and very respected person)

IMO, this is a huge idea, as not many people are willing to spend days in testing or finding drivers for their systems, not to mention documenting and automation what drivers work what not and what is the sequence
    of driver install process.

but, once you have a such driver pack, thanks to those diligent people, you can tell Microsoft and vendors who are in bed with Microsoft to stick their vista up their a$$..

why should they dictate us what laptop and what OS we need to run on our laptop/PC that we paid for.

What do you people think about this idea?

    • John O'Boyle says:

I too have a T6321 and would be interested in buying the drivers and possibly getting involved in the website. Please let me know what I can do.

I’m running XPpro 64bit on gateway M series. If you can’t find the drivers you need (esp. for 64bit, try installing the vista drivers). They work for the webcam and media card reader for sure. Also, If you don’t know how to slipstream XP so that you don’t get the “No Hard Drive Found” message, check out this tutorial: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7813_102-0.html?forumID=133&threadID=259200&messageID=2575910 (about halfway down the page under the “XP Install without Dual Boot on Gateway MT6840″ title.

  20. For those of you having Vista changeover to XP driver issues, you can find MOST of the drivers @ http://www.driveragent.com We specialize in Vista changeovers and use this program. It is definatley worth the $30.00. Certain orther drivers like audio may cause you some difficulty, but trust me….the drivers are out there.

i use a gateway t-6815 model of notebook and im realy very regretful that i bought this notebook.
first very bad performance with vista,
second there is not a good costumer support system. when you want to downgrade operating system from vista to xp then you have seriously big trouble that you can never find drivers for xp and gateway doesnt help you about this subject.
as the result… now its late for me, couse i have already bought gateway.(first and last time). im regretful and dont advise anyone to buy if they have any other option to buy.
